  • damn that intro is amazing

  • im 16 and i remember listening to this with my mom on the way to grandmas house epic times back then

  • Wow. Brings back many memories. This was break through, hi tech, amazing when it came out. People talked about it for quite sometime. Kids have no clue when you talk about it.

  • It is IMPOSSIBLE to sit still while listening to this song! It's so awesome!

  • great tune.

  • If you knew how this song was made you would understand why the lyrics are so simplistic.

Knopfler wrote this after overhearing a conversation by some employees in an appliance store who were complaining about their job, and how the rockstars do nothing and get all the glory, and maybe get a blister on their thumb

  • What a weird video... :D

  • the 80's. the only time where the guitarist looked cool wearing a headband

  • you had to 'install' microwave ovens ?

  • looks like They didn't focus on their lyricks that much x)

  • u put them in the wall or the counters...

  • If you want a customized kitchen where it's set into the cabinets yeah. But by early 80s they were small enough for the average person to set up.

  • wow! ...what! a! track!!

Music has evolved several times and since this release in 1985 we've had different generations of music. This track still kicks ass! it's a feel good track forever! GotheKnopfler.

  • This song rocks nd 1200 Microgrms used some of this song in there track cid for nothing. But tht group is different then this music.

  • Ok, who out there remembers when this video came out, now cutting edge it was as far as CG went... it and A-ha's Take On Me..LOL out stuff looks kind of cheesy now but it blew our mind back then!

  • DID HE SAY FAGGOT!? is he allowed to say that??? shit I miss the 80's when being PC did not mean SHIT!!! ROCK ON!!

  • Yes he does.`

But on the live shows he used Mommy...

    But i'm not quite sure

  • yeah lol he said Faggot...funny thing is, after 20 some odd years, that word is only now, being bleeped out of the song when its played on the radio.. it was ok for over 20 years to sing it, just not now.. and sorry you missed the 80s, they freaking ROCKED !!!!! we had THE best time ever!

  • its an amazing guitar in this song but overall the song is the greatest

  • Is Perfect Band!

  • there is a story about two men working at fridge shop talking about people from TV ang third one - one from the TV who write their words and make this song.

  • kkkkkk

  • esse cara é muito foda na guitarra

  • This song was written after a band member - lead guy I think - heard a store employee complain about the bands that were playing on the TVs in the store. The guy was talking about how they had to break their backs to earn a living while the bands got paid for doing nothing. That's where the little f...... stuff came from too. The whole song was written from things the store employee was saying about the bands he saw in the videos. The animation is a re-enactment, well not microwave head though.

  • wikipedia is great isn't it?

  • they wrote this song bout Mötley Crüe

  • @metallkrik i could almost tell when he said "look at that faggot".

  • @nodogyougay48 @metallkrik I think they're referring to common stereotypes of that time. Men wearing makeup and having piercings looked gay in the 80's, because it was very different from the norm. He talks about "the little faggot" being sucessful from doing his own thing, despite what others thought. I don't think he was talking about any particular band, or bashing gays. I guess you just have to keep in mind when this song was written, ear rings and makeup on men were a quite flamboyant.

  • @GMARQUIS90 Yeah i was just going along with him on my part i was joking because im not to fond of Mötley Crüe.

  • Hi metallkrik -

Actually the song was written after one of the band - the lead singer I think - visited an appliance store. The TVs were playing music videos...

Anyway, he heard a store employee complaining that bands don't have to do any real work for their money and that they (store workers) had to break their backs to earn a living. That's what's being played out by the animated people in the video. The part about the little f..... also came from the store employee. Enjoy.

  • it was the 1st computer-animated video on MTV Europe 1/9/87 but the second on MTV over all

  • You got the date wrong jinjajc...... this song came out in 1985, and it was on MTV in America that year.

In fact, I have heard it was the first song they ever played.

Are you referring to the launch of MTV in the UK (Europe)?

  • Sorry, the date i stated was the lunch of MTV Europe not the release of money for nothing. Just a lazy typer, cant be arsed to write essay style comments.

  • i think the first song on mtv was video killed the radio star.

  • NIEŚIERTELNI

  • Look how far Graphics have came

  • i luv he begining

  • love the first guitar riff how it goes silent then the guitar comes

  • Me too!

  • Yeah aye its awesome!!

  • Its a shame the drummer doenst have enough cymbals really, I bet everyone buys him cymbals for christmas!

  • I actually just properly laughed out loud at this comment.

    Can I go seconds..?

  • its a threeway

  • pinA

  • I wonder if this song was on MTV

  • You dumbshit, look at the first 5 seconds of the vid, the CG TV is showing the early 80's intro of MTV.

  • It was the first computer-animated video @ MTV :)

  • Love the original version. They pissed off MTV for sure!

And a faggot is certainly more than a bundle of sitcks in this video!

Rock on Mark, and the boys!

  • You can't have an ugly shit head like you and talk on the internet

  • only if i was high when i watched this

  • that ain't workin', that's the way ya do it

  • HAHAHA funniest thing ever what if this was METALLICA ROFL

  • Ahhhh.. so nice that Google and the PRS talked.. and Universal put their stuff up...

  • "the little faggot with the earing and the makup" freaking awesome. so controversial. HAHAHAHA

  • yup just like jeff beck

  • ааааа, башню срывает!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is uber cool! I'm 13 and this is amazing!

  • its good 2 know that there are other young rockers out there as well nt just a generation ruled by rap and all that crap led zeppelin, ac/dc, iron maiden ect i mean im 16 and god help us all my year are mostly chavs so all i cn say is

    ROCK WILL NEVER DIE

  • u think zep and ac/dc are crap ur a fuckin retard who knows nothing about rock so shut your mouth

  • acdc and zep FTW !! :p

  • I am sure he doesn't thing Led Zep and AC/DC are crap. I think he was referring to the sentence structure as crap, but hey writing is a pain in the neck man.

I think we can all agree that AC/DC, Led Zep and Iron Maiden will live for ever and the Dire Straits also ROCK BIG TIME.

  • Rock will never die for sure even everythin

  • your comment is sorta confusing, cant make out if yer calling led zeppelin acdc and iron maiden crap or if a new sentence starts there

  • I think he meant Knopfler from Dire Straits was trying to continue the legacy of great rock bands such as Led Zep, AC/DC and Iron Maiden and no they are not crap at all. They are true classics =)

  • Epic!!

  • i m15 and i cant get enough of old rock, ACDC, Def Leopard, guns 'n' roses, black sabbath. There amazing! our generation cant appreciat classic and timeless music

  • I'm 15 too and I listen to all that stuff and everyone says i'm wierd. But i agree, they don't understand that if it wern't for people like AcDc, Led Zeppelin and stuff like that, there wouldn't be the music there is today :)

  • im just 18 and love old rock! this song has got to have some of the best damn giutar work ive ever heard.

  • MaGiC mUsiC ... JuST LoVe It !!!

  • this has to be one of the coolest things i have ever seen

  • is he singing "those little faggots"..?

  • "That little faggot with the earring and the makeup..."

  • yeah he says that little faggot with the earing and the makeup, yeah buddy thats his real hair and he continues. The lyrics are based off of what the lead singer heard in a appliance store.

  • Ah, yes, thanks. I had too google it and found the story. I have heard this song so many times and never noticed that line - guess it is not expected outside of the Eminem channel! :-)

I'm homosexual btw. Somehow I don't think that there is a basher behind every use of the faggot word. I was just wondering as I had not heard this in that song.

  • every time i heard him sing this song live he uses another term...usually 'queenie" or somethin else but never 'faggot'

  • That's what I call quality music, I'm not old but love this tune.

  • music has no age bro

  • LOVE THIS CLASSIC !

  • i love the beginning guitar :D

  • I prefer Weird Al's version.

  • pure rock or pure good feeling ino both!

  • Funny, that background vocal "get your money for nothing" sounds eerily like Sting... Brill song, btw and the video is classic in it's own way; a testiment to where we were less than 30 years ago. Frightning, almost lol

  • that is Sting

  • Oooh...cool :) Thank you

  • It is Sting singing background vocals plus he got song writer credit for the "I want my MTV" part since it's the same chorus as "Don't Stand So Close to Me"

  • Now that you say so, I can hear it. Cheers :)

  • Yeah. Do it with solely with 1985 or older technology.

  • fuck off samnectar

  • That's a bold statement to make...now back it up, post your masterpiece so we can all see this amazing video.

  • This video was released in 1985 obviously they did'nt have nowadays technology and actually in its time this was a revolutionary video, the first one to be aired in MTV europe

  • amazing video indeed. The first fully animated clip ever. SO historical, and pure epic.

  • oh fuck off noob, stupid fucking 14 year olds

  • What's wrong with fourteen year olds? I'm fifteen. What made you say this? I digress, however; majority of my generation is truly horrendous. I'm just curious why you're saying this, is all : )

  • lol its k, im 15 as well, and i agree there are only a handful of people in my age group that listen to anything resembling rock, eg the other day i was talking about a led zeppelin song to a year 10, he said ' there shit because there OLD' so i pulled the stfu and gtfo card on him :)

  • im 13 they cross out 14 and 13 year olds because lets face most of our generation is stupid lambs masses but there are still some rocker and metalheads out there!

  • for the mtv generation

  • Great song, truly awful video

  • Klasyka!!!

  • Rockin!

  • louder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This song is both the best and wost song ever written. I fucking love it. :)

  • ha i know what you mean

  • I cant decide which song is better. Sultans of Swing or this one. By the way i like how their clothes are changing colors in the beginning

  • 0o0o sting? it sounded familiar

  • faggot

  • Not me, I'm all man. But I'm secure enough in my sexuality as a man not to care about other people's choices, and respect them. Unlike crypto-faggots who are afraid of their own desires, like Craig and other repressed fag republicans.

  • lol whatever makes u sleep at night

  • thanks for posting, amazing video and great music:D little faggot rocks!

  • yeah it gives me chills every time i hear it! amazing song

  • i hear they took fagget out and made a shorter version they need to leave it the way it was! fag is just a word to describe homos so what!!!!! they call straigth people breeders and make litle jokes stupid qeers

  • the little fagget with the earing and the make up!! haha makes the song

  • Sting is the back up singer.
