This was such a great TV show. Didn't rely on blood or gore to scare the pants off of a kid; just the imagination. Kolchak had guts. I would have jumped sky high had I first heard that creaking sound like he did when he was looking for the head. Oh, the memories!
5:20 - whoever was throwing the skull - Darren McGavin or his stuntman - must have had one heck of a time avoiding that motorbike. We cut away a split-second beforehand, but it sure looks like a very close shave (the guy appears to dodge the wrong way).
This episode was terrifying to me as a kid. As an adult, I can see that the special effects were pretty basic even for its time (probably a result of the budget), but it was effective enough for what they needed.
Watchable Final Scene and when Kolchak speaks into his tape recorder about what happens to all in the story and to the Late Larry Linville's ( September 29, 1939 - April 10, 2000 ) ~ R.I.P., Captain Jonas' Future. Much Obliged 'n' Thank You, naysgrace.
Did you know......it was reported that the great Stephen King felt that this episode was stupid. But then again, even Stephen King can be off in judgement once in a while!
" And you're suposed to be the brightest & youngest captain on the force huh? Well you're not even fit to be the captain of the Rockettes.. SUCK IN YOUR GUT!!!!!" Classic Kolchak.
million thanx... isn't that the original Maytag repairman moonlighting as a nightwatchman?

I read King's comments on the episode. He thought it was too gruesome and horrific for television--a strange comment coming from Stephen King!
