Don't buy.....itsucks! You can't remove the volume from the cam if you want to use a mic or equipment that you have...there is no updates available...and the cam flickers to adjust hd view every 10 second....PEICE OF CRAP!

@premiermc the HD-5001 is only at bestbuy and it has the white face plate. That's about it, other then that they are the same.

I bought this webcam some days ago and I can say that I don't recommend it because its picture is not very cristal clear as a HD camera is supposed to be , it take pictures/video with some noise due of its small sensor/lens, the lens/sensor is really small which is not convenient for picture quality.

How to disable autofocus (Meaning your Lifecam HD-5001 keeps blurring every 10 sec)

1.) Go to the Microsoft Lifecam program

2.) Press the arrow to your right on your lifecam program

3.) Uncheck True Color (Don't worry it sucks anyways)

4.) Go to properties after you uncheck

5.) "Click" the Camera Control tab

6.) Look for focus (Bottom of zoom) and uncheck auto

7.) Apply then ok

8.) Your done!!!

@Thiaaguu try making sure the is a good bit of lighting in the room and the the webcam is pointing at you.

@Thiaaguu You can turn it off, if you turn the autobright thingy whatever its called off in the software that came with it then it opens up a whole set of other options and from there you can turn the auto focus off.

It is a problem but whats more of a problem is not knowing whats causing it, this camera performs surprisingly well under low light

LifeCam is shit the default software for it doesn't run. "LifeCam.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience." is a pretty shitty way to treat a customer

@ivantnt26 Just uninstall the software, seems to work well enough in applications without it. Though I used software called ManyCam that worked well too, it's free as well. Stupid Microsoft software :(

@TheXand19 thanx for reply but i found another solution really weird thou . you gotta make a new folder in c/ program files/ microsoft life cam/ effects. and then all files from folder visual you move to another folder that you just created starting with " 06Accesories.dill then restart your computer and thats it, it works

This is a great review. Audio is too low though.

I recently bought this camera and I thought it didn't have a built in mic as all the websites listing the product features didn't mention microphone capabilities. This review saved me a trip back to the store to get one that does mention a built in mic. I gave it a quick test run today and it is indeed a superb camera.

Few downsides though is that it doesn't have a lens cover and I would be afraid of breaking it while travelling to college.
