To everyone wondering if the magic is cut in half, either the bat thinks he's being clever, or he's bad at math :-P

Anyway, when you divide something by 1/2, it's the same as multiplying it by 2, therefore doubling the magic. The little 1/2 notation above the magic meter just means that when you use magic, the meter only lowers half as much as before.

They say that intentionally. If they actually did double your magic, it would take twice as long to fill your bar with the green bottles.

They do the same thing in Ocarina of Time when you get your health "doubled". The fairy makes all your enemies do half damage.

@DragonSniper7 He says he halves your magic but what he really did was just halve the cost of using magic, essentially doubling it.
