  • Wow - thanks for this, your videos are fantastic. I'm doing a large project with a small hook and it's really tough on my thumb - I think I'm getting a permanent indent lol. This will really help so thanks very much xx

  • Love it, must try it.

  • plastic tubing nice idea!

  • Can you use a straw?

  • thank you i made my own

  • i will be a happier crocheter now!! lol

  • This is a great idea, definatly gonna try this out...and i love the straw idea, gotta get some grips now

  • Thanks for another great idea, unfortunately I can't seem to find these in my town right now. I looked at Walmart, Dollar Tree and Dollar General! lol I'm hoping to find some when school supplies are put out again. :-)

  • TERESA you are amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • @KillerinQueen Thank you for watching and learning crochet

  • @KillerinQueen

    no u r not

  • How about cutting a plastic drinking straw? I got one to fit over my size G hook just fine.

  • @InweTaralom A straw will work.

  • Teresa...I truly love your gorgeous manicured hands crocheting away with your decorative hooks with awesome Gushy Grip bands. I have found an angel from heaven. I get mushy & gushy when I find genius people wandering around & about out of nowhere.

This was all done in 1963? Pray tell, Are you still around? I wish to have you on my good friend list. Love, The Happy Hooker.

  • i just asked you about your grips too! ;p thanks!!

  • Hey, I love your channel.

I also wanted to say that I'm from Australia, and I went to my local stationary shop and found gooshy grips. I didn't get the tubing yet, but I'll try next time I go past the hardware store, but I used it with rubber bands tonight and it worked great, no more hand cramps :)

  • @pennylane4035 If you have the flexible medical wrap, that will work better than the plastic tubing. Many have suggested this can be found in animal supply stores as well in bandaging animals

  • If you live near a university that has a chemistry supply store you might be able to buy tubing there. It is usually sold by the foot and they have different types and sizes. I worked in a chem store and never thought of this idea!! I am looking into this for myself to save the hand. Thanks for the video!

  • AH, i just asked you a question about your awesome grips. THANK YOU~

you're saving the joints in my hands!!!

  • After searching for tubing and not finding any and buying the gel grips-My daughter says "why can't you just use rubber bands momma? and slide the grip over top of them... DUH!?"

So she sarcastically showed me how and it works perfect. No slipping or twisting, no tacky gooshing out. Now I have rubberbands on all my hooks and gel grips neatly set in place over each.

    "...Duh"

  • @johntara14 I just made a new tutorial showing how to use the medical flex wrap. It is the self adhesive wrap that medical facilities use to cover your skin when you have had lab work done.

  • I might try these for my old set of hooks I'm giving to a friend. My mom purchased a whole set of bamboo handled hooks for me for christmas.

  • I tried rubber band and they work GREAT!

  • love it i look for this at the stores

  • I've finally found some pencil grips and find holding the hook is so much easier now, thanks Teresa

  • ur dum

  • Hi Teresa, I got taught to crochet by watching, not by reading, and I am always looking out to see what else I can learn from you. I am glad you put this information of the grips, I know is not new but to me it is, once I start to crochet after a while my hand gets warm and tire and the grip will help, also when I rest for a couple of minutes and pick up the hook, is cold and it does not feel good in my joints. today after we finish planting about 8 different fruit trees I will get the grips

  • Teresa, LOVE your videos! and LOVE this Idea... did have a question tho... do you find that as your crochet that the grip+tube shifts/moves and you need to readjust? I didn't use the size tube your advised, i used what i could find around my home and that may be why mine would shift. I wanted to share the solution my husband came up with and works WONDERFUL!! use saran wrap a few layers thick then slid the grip. adds extra comfort and the grip stays in place =)

  • @Unitubeful I That is a great idea! Thank you! :)

  • Thanks for great idea. As someone who has a lot of pain this inspires me to pick up my crochet hooks more. I'll use old nebulizer tubing :)

  • @amomschoice The grips helps a lot.

  • It's a lovely idea. I found similar grips, and for my smaller crochet hooks (E & F) I simply split another section of tubing, and shoved that piece of tubing inside the first. The doubled up tubing fills the grip nicely, and still slides on to the crochet hook. Now I have a firm but soft grip on my smaller hooks. Thanks Teresa!

  • hola me gusta tu canal es muy bueno ..hablo poquito ingles pero el suficiente para enternderte!!!!!!. congratulations you are so good! I like your videos and, I learning a lot..

  • @zoylaM Thank you ! :)

  • That's so simple but great! I wanted different color grips for each of my hooks but the ones made for crochet hooks seem to only come in packages of one color. Thanks, Teresa!

  • @mollysomogyi You are welcome!

  • So simple but a great idea! Thanks Teresa!!

  • HI I couldnt find the plastic tubing soo I just used a straw and cut it in to pieces and i didnt get to go to walmart today so i used a mechanical pencil grip so yeah ill make a video l8ter thank you if anybody needs to kno how i did u can just ask

  • @Missy2010Diana There are a lot of different things that will work for a grip

  • @tjw1963 ik

  • Thanks for the idea.

On another note incase anyone was wondering. I did some looking around trying to find the gooshy grips and they don't ship nor sell outside the US. I found some gel grips that are similar at walmart and they work just as good.

  • Nice idea but I only can find the tubing in my country not the other thing.

  • @trovey02 Any type of pencil grip will work. Do you have pencil grips in your country?

  • Nice idea but I can't buy these things in my country.

  • wow...clever! :)

  • @craftyladydi Thank you!

  • Just got back from home depot and staples and made my own grip. Can't wait to use it after I put my son down for the night!! Woohooo :)

  • @J3ndos It is great that you found what you need! I hope it will work well for you!

  • wow.. this is awesome.. i will make my own. thank you teresa

  • @J3ndos You are welcome!

  • Loved this idea! Thanks

  • @tkluvok1 You are welcome!

  • What a brilliant idea!!! Thanks for posting!

  • @evealexsis You are welcome!

  • Very nice!! Disregard my message about where you purchase the grips!! I can't wait to make this :)

  • i was too impatient to wait to go to the hardware store for tubing so i just cut a fatter mcdonalds straw!

  • HELLO I write from Spain and I would know some where I can get the handles of colors for the crochet in Spain onde not get there any vendors on the Internet? thanks.

  • @nikaeron These are pencil grips. Any type of pencil grip will work.

  • @tjw1963 ok thanks for your help

  • small hardware stores sell this tubing by the foot and in all sizes and even some interesting colors. you can buy the right size for every hook and even put one tubing over another to make a really fat grip. i cut mine long so the grip covers a little over half of the hook. the thick tubing is much firmer than the gooshy grip, which works for me. i actually took my hooks to the hardware store.

  • @keshazel Is it tubing or electrical casing? I do have a hard time finding the smaller tubing to fit the smaller hooks. I will keep your idea in mind the next time I go to the hardware store.

  • @tjw1963 ...regarding the tubing, all I know is you can go look at the hardware store yourself and decide. I asked for tubing, and this is what they showed me. I do have photos of my hooks with the tubing.

  • Thats a good idea to make your own crochet hook gel grip. I looked at some in craft stores, but are little expensive. Its cheaper than buying some in the store.I will make my own someday. Awesome.

  • they sell tubing by the foot at smaller hardware stores. you don't have to buy a whole package and you can buy a tube size to fit over the other tube to make a fatter grip. you can cover the tubing with labels, stickers or tape

  • Aaawwe! Thank you very much!!!!

  • what a great idea. You are amazing!!!!

  • @maryann623able Thank you.

  • thank you, I'm going to try this..

  • where do u buy hooks im in california but i dont know where to buy em also garden grove but i really need a hook

  • @AznDevil1019 You can purchase hooks at Wal-mart in the craft department if they have one. You can find them at Michaels, AC Moore, Hobby Lobby or Joann Fabric and Crafts.

  • Great idea I will do this as soon as I can get the money to do so...Thanks a bunch I am sure this would help keep my fingers from locking up all the time.

  • Where can I get them in Singapore?

  • Can you help me get the plastic tubing and gooshy grip?

  • does it matter which kind of grip u use ?

  • @xxnarutoloverxx3 Any type of pencil grip should work.

  • I've been watching your videos for a while now and have found great inspiration from them. I do have a question though and this video seems to coincide with it. I've been using the Boye needles and they have a bit of a point on the end of them. With the way I hold my needle it makes it kind of annoying and over time a bit painful. I thought an eraser on the end would help but it's too big. Do you have a suggestion as to what I can put on the end of the needle that won't get in the way?

  • @TynaBoBeena I have put on two grips. You could pull it to the end of the hook so the point is not exposed.

  • @TynaBoBeena I use pencil erasers, stuff them with polymer clay, put them on the back end of a hook and fits... I also have knitting needle tips that work too.

  • @justanotheralcoholic

I also took apart a ball point pen which I didn't need. Filled the opening with a Gooshy Grip. Pushed the end of the hook into the bottom of the pen top, Voila, I had a longer hook, and it was egonomic.

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!! Finally! :)

  • Great idea! Thanks for sharing!

    Linda

  • @laurrrren You are welcome.

  • Teresa...hugs back to you lady. Not many can say they understand when it comes to losing a child. Thinking of you tonight and thank you so much for the comment "it all starts to go in to a "place", as time passes." I will think of that daily. :)

  • Was so excited when I found this...have been watching your videos for some time but have not been motivated to get back into my crafts. Lost my daughter to domestic homicide in 2006 and just pretty much quit life. Your motivating me lady and I thank you for being there for everyone including me. You have to be an extremely sweet person to do what your doing. Thank you a million times for helping to give me my spirit back!

  • @Rosebudette I appreciate the comment. I'm sorry about your daughter and know the pain and grief of losing a child. I experienced the death of my infant son in 1986. I did a lot of crochet during that time. I even made a filet crochet cupid angel in memory of my son. There was a point I felt guilty for smiling and laughing. I finally had to re-enforce to myself that it was alright to live and be happy. It all starts to go in to a "place", as time passes. Hugs to you!

  • Awesome!!!!! I can't wait 2 make my own!!!! Thanx!

  • @Mstoot7 You are welcome. I appreciate the comment.

  • OMG! Great idea. Very economical too. Thanks for sharing.

  • Great tip!! Thanks :)

  • Great idea...

  • this is a lovely idea, I'll have to see if those "grippies" are available in my area (Ontario Canada)

  • Teresa, you had so many wonderful ideas. I saw your crochet hooks with grip, but didn't know what it called. I showed your video to my coworkers and they told me crochet hook grip. I went to Walmart, Michaels, and Hobby Lobby but couldn't find them. But now after watching this video, I will look at Walmart school supply section. Thank you a million for my arthritis hands.

  • great idea thanks!

  • Thank you so much for this idea. I had already used the pencil/pen grips on some of my bigger hooks but couldn't figure out what to do for the smaller ones. Great idea and thanks again!!

  • You are welcome.

  • oh ça c'est une super bonne idée à retenir , surtout pour moi qui souffre de polyarthrite rhumatoide, merci infiniment pour cette bonne idée ! amitié Martine

Oh what a wonderfull idea, i m suffer with polyarthritis and i thank you very much for this idea ! Thanks a lot ! friendly from France , Martine

  • I appreciate the comment, thank you.

  • if you use a bit of soap on the end of the larger crochet hooks the grip will slide on easier - like using soap on a screw to make it easier to put into the wall

  • I forgot to say "BAR" soap - lol - not the liquid kind

  • What a fantastic idea!! Just can't find the squishy pencil grips here!

  • Thank you. If you are in the USA, Wal-Mart should have them. They seem to get sold out really fast during school season. There are places online that you can find pencil grips. They work really well and are very comfortable. You may need to make some minor modifications to get the grips to work with the smaller crochet hooks.

  • Unfortunately I'm not in the states. I did get some at the store you recommended before. Now that I see how you can make the hooks to fit any size, I will get some plastic tubing and hopefully that will fix my problem.

Thanks tjw for getting back to me so promptly.

  • Can it be any pencil grips?

  • Yes, most pencil grips should work. That is all I am using is a pencil grip.

  • Thank you.

  • im going in the morning for gooshy grips!

  • i saw this and found the same 'gooshy grips' at the shop.....much nicer on the hands....

    thanks from australia!

  • i just bought my gooshy grips and its so comfy crocheting now :)

  • lol never thought of the plastic tubing... I use the grips already (same brand even, lol) but when I found the issue with the hook being too small... I just wrapped some saran wrap around the hook before adding the grip... but I like the ease of the tubing... I'll have to give that a try... thx!

  • This is cool, but I can't make one since my hook is way small

  • I include the plastic tubing for the smaller hooks.

  • OMG!! :-O

    A truly brilliant idea!

  • Thanks for sharing...:-)

  • Pretty good idea. Thanks.

  • thank you so much for this idea! it's helped me become more comfortable with my hooks!

  • oh wow! i might actually try this.

i have a devil of a callous on my middle finger because i write and crochet with the same finger position. this will definately help. thankyou :)

  • Absolutley brilliant....is there no end to your talents? Thanx for this Teresa.

  • You are welcome. :)

  • i've tried this and it's so much more comfortable... great great great idea =)

  • Thank you. :)

  • thanks for this!!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Thanks so much for this! I have psoriatic arthritis and my fingers are a mess. This will help so much and is a cheap and easy way to do it. Disability stuff is usually hard to get hold of and very very highly priced. Thanks again and I will share this with my friends.

    xx

  • You are welcome. :)

  • HAHA this is great, ive always just used a bandaide on my right ring finger to prevent blisters. off to Staples i go!...

  • Teresa: Como faço para obter um material semelhante so seu em meu pais(Brasil?).

  • Thank you. :)

  • Translation for Teresa:

How can you obtain such objects in a country like Brazil where you do not have access to theses things?

  • YOU ARE INCREDIBLE...

  • Thank you. :)

  • Teresa - You are seriously my hero! Your videos have not only taught me to crochet, but continue to teach me such useful things to make it more enjoyable!

As someone who has had three wrist surgeries (my Ravelry name is WristWrecked), I'm always looking for ways to make my favorite passtime more comfortable! Thanks!

  • Thank you. I am all to happy to share something that will help a lot of people. I have always experienced some sort of pain when I crochet a lot or fast. These little grips have been helping me. I have been looking at those little grips in Wal-mart for over a year, trying to figure out how I can get them to work.

  • Teresa, you are so talented.

  • That's cool

  • Genius idea - dirt cheap too!

  • thank you. i never would have thought to buy pencil grips to comfort the way i hold my hook.

  • Brilliant! Thank you.

  • this is like you were reading my mind! For the past few days I have been trying to find something to use as a grip!

  • Whoa! I do that!! I use gooshy grips for the tool that came with my knifty knitter looms. I never thought of using it on my crochet hooks!

  • That's a great idea, I use them for bendy straws so they don't fall in my big covered cups. : )

  • what are the grips for?

  • can you make a few videos on laces? like how to make laces around shirts?

  • Did you see the place mat edging that I posted? That is one way to do it.

  • that's a great idea. i really need to try that.

  • cool! i hate havin dents in my hands and cramps after crocheting.

  • That is so creative! I'll try that since my right hand always gets tired after a while. Thanks :)
