There is also a reason the Spartans were considered the best warriors in Greece, by the Greeks. Most of this battle was led and largely fought by just King Leonidas's Spartans. He sent the 6700 other Greeks that came with them back before the last couple of battles. He knew they weren't going to win.

A huge movie lover and a longtime world history buff, this is a favorite movie of mine - and this being one of my favorite scenes. This being 'war', I almost hate to say it, but the cinematography of this scene was like a beautiful ballet of 'ancient' warfare. Just powerful and gorgeous. And to those arguing, trying to school someone on history (who has no interest in it), is unfortunately futile. And picking over an action movie is just silly. They're not documentaries, but are movies to enjoy.
