  • Thanks a bunch. Very useful info.

  • Sorry for not asking in video 1 but what Sig is this if you don't mine me asking. I have the 2011 SigSauer p226 Elite Dark and my sidearm has a decocker on it. Just wondering what you have here in this video exactly. Good video!

  • @MrIchabodCrane85

    Must be the p226 DAK

  • I know your dept prob does not permit it, but do you ever take apart the whole slide and firing pin assembly? If you mind making a video? This also worked great for my Norinco np-22, not a sig but she shoots great!

  • @zulu547 To disassemble the firearm any further would require me to be a certified armorer. I have not taken the course from Sig so I am not going to disassemble the firearm any further.

  • You forgot to assemble the de-cocking lever at the end right?

  • @UnderRedAlert No I did not. My Sig P226 is Double Action Only, it does not have a decocking lever.

  • Do you have a good video on cleaning your .45 Para, or planning to do one? I realize its a lot to ask for but you obviously know your stuff :D I should finally be getting my Para .45 next week (in Canada the paperwork takes about 3 months to go through to be approved for restricted weapon use) and I'd like it to stay in good shape and do the ins and outs. Thank you and have a great day!

  • @shkotay I do not currently have a video on cleaning my 1911s. I have been thinking about making one, but I can't say when I would get to it. Most of my guns have been getting shot fairly regularly now, so I do need to clean most of them. As soon as I get the time to clean them I will try and make a video on each one. Thank you for watching.

  • @renegade410 Certainly, and I intend to shamelessly continue mooching off your educated tips as you have all concise well informed videos, and no nasty braggadocio like most others do :D And since I am an admitted amatuer plinker these vids do a lot of good for me. Merry early X Mas to you and yours!

  • great vid!!! i used the 226 when i was in the navy and now that im civi i own a 220 that is my daily. very informative and many praises for someone actually posting a sig video!! few and far between!! well done and thanks again for taking the time!!

  • @b10hz4rd Thank you. Thank you for your service! Thanks for watching.

  • Hello. I think you mentioned it is a "service" weapon. Does this mean you carry it around quite a bit? Do you know about how many rounds of ammo have been thru this 226? It looks from the barrel that there is quite a bit of wear and also it looks like the outside of the slide could use a few good coatings of CLP which will bond with the metal & give it that dark look. This is good for rust prevention Good Informative Vid. Sincerely,d JAMES.

  • @buzzclark Yes, this is my service sidearm. I carry it at least 5 days a week @ work, and sometimes off duty as well. I don't know exactly how many rounds have been through it but it has to be over 3000 rounds and that is a conservative estimate. There isn't much wear on the slide, it might be the light or my camera.

I'm glad you found the video informative. Thank you for watching.

  • Thank You for a great video series. Sig should make a DVD or your series and include it in the box! The supplied Sig instructions on cleaning were quite disappointing.

  • @mpieniek Thank you very much. I'm glad the video was enjoyable and informative.

  • Thanx for u`r service, Two products I believe in , EEZ0X c.l.p. and Gunslick graphite-based lubricant , check em out.

  • @lisapizza8 Thank you. My partner uses EEZOX, but I prefer to use the seperate solvents and lubricants. Thank you for watching and commenting,

  • Loved the video. Quick questiion what do you think about the crud cutter on the polymer frames I have a HK.45 USP and the gun store says not to use it but I think it drys so fast it wouldnt ever hurt it. I sprayed it today over a trash can with a bag of trash under it, and it piled up and never wore thru the thin little trash bag so I figured it cant be that bad for the polymer gun handles? Do you think it is really thsat bad? Or only if u let it sit forever, but even then drys quick.

  • @lilcritchy Thank you.

I have never heard of "crud cutter" so I don't know anything about it. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to cleaning my firearms. I don't like the all-in-one cleaners/lubricants. I know many people that like the all-in-ones, but I feel that the way I go about cleaning really gets the firearm cleaned well.

Thank you for watching and commenting.

  • hey renegade any idea when you'll be posting a redo of the part 3? Great video series, super informative, just subbed. Thanks for taking the time to make this!

  • @perkyppnut50 I'm not sure. I really have a lot of other stuff that I want to get videos done on. I'll keep it in mind to try and get to a reshoot. Thank you for watching.

  • Great job...Super detail.

  • @H654381 Thank you very much.

  • Renegade410, this is by far one of the if not the best descriptive gun cleaning video i have ever seen. I absolutely learned a lot from Part 1 & 2 but not 3. Part 3 appeared to be forced and in a hurry. I would absolutely love to see a revised part 3 where I can see how you clean your bore as well as anything else that was not shown in the video. If you have another video...let me know.

  • I'll see if i can get to another Part 3 to the series. Unfortunately I had to reshoot this part after almost completely getting through it. Next time I have the time to make a video on maintaing the Sig P226 I'll see if I can make a better version of this video.

    Thank you for watching.

  • Is that the standard recoil spring and guide rod or are you using something special for your hot service loads?

  • As far as I know it is the standard recoil spring and guide rod. I didn't change anything.

  • @renegade410 ....ok, so it's the green spring. the left grip panel still has the cut out for the decocker, would that have any issues on reliability? the DAK version still has the same left grip panel as yours.

  • The grips don't have any bearing on the reliability of the firearm.

  • Is this sig p226 a DA only? I noticed there is no decocking lever.

  • Yes it is a Double Action Only P226.

  • Nice pistol though. I really never knew there was a DA in 226. Thanks for the video cleaning.

  • Thank you.

  • Thank you very much.

I'm glad you enjoyed the videos.

  • Great vid. Do you have a similar vid available on Glock 21 (.45 ACP) cleaning/lubrication?

  • Thank you.

I do not have any videos for Glock pistols because I do not own any, nor do I plan to add any to my collection.

I hope that does not discourage you from continuing to watch my videos.

  • These vids got me motivated and I cleaned my XD while I was watching!!!

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Thank you for watching.

  • Thanks for the video, very helpful. Just got a used P-226 in 357sig and wanted to make sure that I didn't miss anything that is peculiar to the p-226 when it comes to cleaning and lubricating the weapon. Mine was a local SO trade in from where they converted from the P-226 in .357sig to the Glock 19. I got a really good price for a gun in great condition (375.00), so very happy.

  • Thank you for watching.

I'm glad you like it and you did get it for a great price.

  • Two questions:

    1. Are you not worried about leaving cotton fibers behind after using the Q-Tips?

    2. Do you do any cleaning and lubricating of the magazines?

  • I don't have any problems leaving fibers behind. I try and twist the Q-Tip as I use it, that wraps it up tight and doesn't leave anything behind.

I do clean my magazines and I have a video on cleaning them.

    Thank you for watching.

  • Great Video serious. One question I had for you was that I didn't see you lubricate the outside of the firearm. Any reason why or was that just due to the interest of time?

  • I don't like to put oil on the outside of my firearms. Oil can attract dust, dirt, and moinsture. All of these can be harmful to the firearm.

I like to wipe down the outside of the firearm with a silicon cloth. That seems to work the best for me.

  • I just bought a P220 2-tone in SAO and am glad I watched your video! As a 7yr Glock owner, I too did'nt know one could get underneath the grips for thorough cleaning. Thanks for posting! ....I gotta say though, I like my Sig a lot more than my Glock, harsh words, but true. How do feel about gun grease for the rails though? I keep hearing " Sig's like to run wet!"

  • I don't like to put too much oil on any of my firearms. Oil tends to attract dust, dirt, and moisture. Non of which are any good for the gun. So I don't oil mine any more than what I show.

I don't use gun grease, I like to just use any quality oil. That has worked well for me.

  • I'm fairly new to handguns, but I just bought a p226 today. Thanks for posting this video. It will definitely be what I use to give my gun its first cleaning.

  • Thank you for watching my video. I'm glad that I could make a video that helps out.

    Stay safe out there!

  • i've never owned a handgun yet, but they seem a little more complex than a rifle to clean, i've only shot about 10 rounds from a handgun(some guy's who happened to be at the range at the same time as me and my dad) but they seem, cool, but a bit more dangerous because of the shortness(length)

  • Depending on the firearm, it can be a little complicated. I don't think any more difficult than cleaning a rifle, though.

They are no more or less dangerous than any other firearm. As long as a firearm is handled safely, and treated with respect then there will not be any mishaps. If you ask me all guns are cool. I've always been interested in them, and I take all the aspects of firearm ownership seriously, especially safety and personal responsibility.

  • thankyou very much for posting these videos renegade.... i am joining the New Zealand army in a few months, as the sig sauer P226 is used as there operational side arm it was very educational for me thanks!!! (ps any chance of u posting how to load and unload the P226)

  • I'm glad I could help. I will try and get a video out on loading up the magazines and the pistol for you. I actually just picked up a couple new magazines so I might do a video on breaking them down and cleaning them as well. Thank you for watching and commenting. Stay safe out there!

  • Very informative. Thanks for the info. I actually owned a P228 for five years and never knew that I should have removed the grip covers and clean the inside! It was really dirty in there!

  • Thank you. Glad the video was helpful.

  • I really enjoyed this 3 part series. Very cool, Thanks !

  • Thank you/ Glad you liked it.

  • Actually some guide rods like WOLF's they are self lubricating.
