  • Is it just me or did she start off a bit too early? Compare it with the recording and you'll notice the difference.

  • I sat and watched this live in 1991 and was spellbound, 20 years on and the effect is the same.

Every Eurovision Song Contest since i have compared the entries to this song and none have ever come close.

Beautiful song, beautiful woman, perfect performance.

  • After all these years we all still agree AMINA should of got the title. It's ok we all know that SHE IS THE WINNER AFTER ALL THESE YEARS.

  • Nice!

  • Quelle grâce

  • what can I say to the song....I LOVE IT!!!!!

This one should have simply won vs this crap song of Carola

  • Robbed, pure and simple!

  • DAMM ! sweden.

  • What a fantastic performance. I thought I was listening to the studio version. She has extremely good vocal range.

  • Why isn't Eurovision this classy and beautiful any more? Just listen to this beauty.

  • Me pelqen shume kjo kenge! :)

  • This is such a magical and echanting song =) And then that truly embarrasing trash went on to win the contest, what a shame

But Amina is definitely the moral winner of 1991, my year of birth:) She was the best by a mile

  • @Valtteri2

    You're so right!

Searched for this song a long time and I'm glad I found it at least.

The best Eurovision songcontest song ever.

A shame that it did not winn.

    Politics?

  • @TheBertieW Thanks :) I'm still a bit sad she didn't win. It would've been a perfect victory. Well i've nothing against carola, but the song was just too "calculated" to win the contest, whereas this song is genuine and has a message :)

  • @Valtteri2

    Thank you for answering,

I heard this song in 1991 and I was certain it would win.

    It should have won.

Breathtaking song, one of my top 5 for sure.

Its an insult to the song to compare it with all other ESC songs ever made.

    Its a shame.

Greetings from the Netherlands my friend!

  • @TheBertieW another mistake from Berlusconi lol

  • @consolatoixelles

I don't count them any more LOL.

  • This one is very close to make it to my top 20. Definitely one of the best songs in ESC history.

  • 12points from.... SWEDEN :)

  • DOUZE POINTS FROM ISRAEL!!!! :-)))) PEACE BETWEEN EAST AND WEST!!!! PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST!!!! AMEN. SHALOM! SLAM ALEYKUM!

  • Kenga me e kendshme e ketij edicioni...:)

  • Best and most unique song in 1991! se was much better than that pop tart Carola

  • I love this song because if you notice the words have a very distinct rhythm so that almost every syllable is said at the same time, almost like something similar to iambic pentameter.

  • BEST SONG OF '91

  • Eurovision at its absoloute best! This song is very good and Amina is a very good singer. Overall, this song was performed very well and could have made a very good winner. :D This is actually quite amazing. :D

  • This is the best Eurovision song of all time and Amina gave an absolutely unforgettable performance. I simply Googled her name, found out about her and bought her albums. She was robbed of the Winner's Crown but she remains in the thoughts and hearts of all of us that witnessed her performance (to this day). I am just pleased to see that so many of us agree!

  • @6hnh6hnh you can't really say she was robbed, the votes were against her. Yes it was close and this song is unique but the swedish was good in its own right.

  • My favorite of her CDs is called 'Nomad'. I did find it in the US at a Virgin Records store...

  • Bellísima canción

  • es war für die eurovison zu gut!

    großartig

  • es war für die eurovison zu gut!

  • I remember crying because Carolla won. This song is one of the best ever songs in any Eurovision contest.

  • @proto1type this song and Amina are the reasons that i hate carolla until today .

  • Great song. I love listening to it. France should have won in 1991. Let's hope they win in 2011. Douze points from Ireland.

  • way better than Carola's one!!!!!!! so beautiful!!!! tres magnifique!!!

  • it`s a magic real magic

  • this song is better than sweden who always has sent cheesy songs...for exemple look at the song from sweden and france of this year and will see the differences ...

  • i foni tis einai san veloudo excellent song

  • the winner!! great!!!!

  • i dont know what she says but it is a funny song

  • It's the first I see and listen to this woman singing. I am impressed! She's amazing!

  • The greatest eurovision song ever. A true piece of art a stunning lady a remarkable voice.

  • This was such a wonderful performance at the Euro Song Contest!! Already 20 years ....This was the period France surely was the country that was very creative and inventing some *other* music styles, even looking over the border line!!! Many thanks for sharing. Unforgettable song!

  • @inspireradavstatyer Surely there is a more peaceful way to make your point than risking getting banned?

  • This song is on her album 'Yalil' xD

    Beautiful voice <3

  • I see almost everybody is talking about ESC and how Amina should have won. But this was just a step (a big one actually) because Amina released few albums before and after the ESC. She also played in independent films. Too bad she didn't made it into the showbiz and maybe Raï pop singers reaped the benefits of her success. now she's still performing but a no longer famous the way she was in that time.

  • Great song. Deserves my "special mention" list. :D

  • why turkish juries did not get point

  • best song of '91

  • Amina is acctually part of a small band that at this very moment is on a tour playing for school kids age 13-15. The band i scalled Pajala Tatawin. I'm not joking, check myspace and you'll see.

The bands style is a mix of Tunisian folk music and music from an area in the north of Sweden along the Finnish border(Tornedalen in swe). It is an interesting mix of styles that alot of school kids don't get, but as an young musician I it was important to show kids that there is other things then rap

  • Halle Berry was on Eurovision??

  • do.s anyone know any other songs from her? i realy like her but can not find anything else then this song??? anybody??? her last name perhaps????

  • @bleuamber Her full name is Amina Annabi.

Search for "A l'abri des portes qui claquent"; she's still got it, and is still a stunning beauty.

  • @setheurovision94 the real winner...!!!!

  • @bleuamber

You can listen to all her songs in this site

    musicme.com

just search for amina annabi and enjoy ! ;-)

  • This is of course the Eurovision Song Contests biggest TRAVESTY.Amina was the star of that night in Rome. She sang perfectly, performed perfectly only to be judged to be runner up by a stupid outdated rule,to a crass song by Eurovisions biggest disaster and arch homophobe, that is Carola.Of course if EBU had any justice they would go back and jointly give the award of 1991.How do we start a campaign to do so?

  • @davieeurobear her singing is by no means perfect. Go to 0:35, you can very obviously hear she started to sing the chorus too early. See her placing her finger on her mouth? Because she messed it up.

  • BOZANSTVENO

  • O my, I was very young at the time. Still I bought her cd. I was in love with Amina and her voice. She was my winner!!! When she lost I never really followed the song contest anymore. Love ya AminaXXX

  • @TheFantasy73 same to me man- wish you the best.

  • That this beautiful song lost to Carola's shitty one is a disgrace

  • my fave Euro song of all time. The Swedish song was just tacky pop and should never have won. Amina's performance was the best by far, as was the song.

  • way better than the swedish jumping clown that won (how is beyond my comprehension). Mt favorite ESC song ever :))

  • Very nice. An unforgettable moment in Eurovision history.

She should have won that year. She's very beautiful. I was crazy about her when i saw her at tv 20 years ago ;-) She is truly beautiful, a great singer and performer.

    12x12 points from Denmark

  • i love amina

  • Nowhere better than Carola, but one of the most expressive performances ever in the contest. She actually was in the Swedish jury this year, couldn't discern any bitterness ;)

  • @inspireradavstatyer Wasn't it that Amina read the French votes in this year's Melodifestivalen? (Something that I find fascinating.) Either way, I've never heard her display any bitterness towards her defeat (which is more than can be said towards certain unnamed runner-ups), so hats off to her for keeping her feet on the ground. After all, she only just lost out on the top spot - a spot that, if the same thing happened today, would have been hers.

  • @setheurovision94 I know that Nevergreen from Denmark in semifinal was grateful that he passed to final, and it's all that matters, but then in the final he was disappointed with the winner and with his fourth place... he is an asshole :D

  • @inspireradavstatyer

She was the real winner !! Points from all countrys... !!! Carola did not get from all countrys !!!

  • @LindaLolaLove Not quite, but she did get points from more countries than Carola did (one more, actually), and today that would indeed make all the difference.

  • @inspireradavstatyer To say the truth it's a shame just comparing Carola's repetitive dance song with this piece of art. As it usually happens, the best songs don't win the contest. Amazing performance of Amina!

  • @furbitoo I agree Amina's was a true piece of art and she, in our minds , is the winner. Actually I haven't heard a strong pice like this one over the years. Till this day this song still remains a forever a classic..go Amina.

  • @inspireradavstatyer Miles away better than Carola.

  • i love Amina

  • if this song dosen`t won

every song els is bad this one is the greatest song in all fransh songs

  • one of mine most favorite, if not the favorite, ESC entry ever... what a pity it did not win (i mean it did won just... :( ).. magical

  • Probably, and I'll just say probably, the best song ever (together with "Volare") in the Eurovision Song Contest.

  • incredible song&voice...I wonder if she had a carrier like she deserved! She should've been the winner, no doubt!!!

  • Almost 20 years later and I have never forgottern the song and the singer!

I love it. Brilliant and so smart.

  • One of the few Eurovision songs i still listen to and feel its uniqueness! Simply fantastic!

  • Don´t like it at all. Sure she could win today.

  • beautiful beautiful BEAU-TI-FUL!!!!!!

1 of my Eurovison all time favorites and boy how pissed I was when France did not win with this masterpiece...

  • 2:22 so sexy

  • This reminds me of Vangelis a little bit.

  • i LOVE THE MUSICAL ARRANGEMENT'S ON THIS SONG ..

  • O M G ! such an incredible voice! She should have definately won that Eurovision! I think it is one the best voices and songs ever for the contest!

  • wow! i love the voice! amazing sounds

  • she was soooo way ahead of time!!!!

  • Should've won, by far actually.

  • As a Swede I am ashamed we had to unleash Carola onto Europe, and Amina took the heaviest blow. We shouldn't even had been second, maybe a 6th position would be okay.

  • One of the best participations ever in Eurovision!

  • @fermoyuk ... couldnt agree with you more...the biggest eurovsion disappointment of all time

didnt help when i read recently that if todays eurovision rules were in place, france would,ve won!

  • too "good" for esc? not then, but it would be now. am a big fan of esc, but i think states singing in english these days are basically prostituting themselves for what is after all, just a song contest. as it happens, this is a fave, along with "hullu yo" and "superstar"

  • cancion preciosa! : )

  • remember this one, i liked it back than, this one was beaten by Swedish Carola if i remeber it correctly

  • they were robbed by that bloody carola. crazy christian!

  • amazing.

  • she has to win that year....i love it ...i love it ...sweden won....france and sweden the same points....sweden has more 12 points...thats the reason that sweden won.

  • France & Sweden got equal number of 12s but Sweden got more 10s thats why they won.

  • oke....thnx.....

  • on s´est fait...VOLER !!

  • 12 points from greece for sure....she is just amazing............

  • Best ESC song ever...superb

  • Absolutely stunning song, and singer. 12 pts from the United Kingdom for sure.

French/Arab mix which is now ever so popular but was very new at the time this song appeared on Eurovision... I think much better than the Swedish entry and probably in my top 2/3 of all time eurovision favourites.

  • I`d say this: this song, together with "Volare", are the most beautiful songs ever sung in the Eurovision; it just gets prettier and prettier every time I hear it. Does anyone disagree?

  • you fool..

The nicest eurovision song by a long way!

  • This song just sounds better every time you hear it. How this did not win I will NEVER understand

One of the BEST songs ever to be in the Eurovision!!!! Charming and melodic with a STUNNING and STRIKING singer

    12 points to France

    Greetings from IRELAND

  • most strange indeed perhaps she was a siren in her last life.

  • One of my best remembered Eurovision songs. Proper music. Robbed. Great to hear ir again - even better than I remembered.

  • 100% agree. maybe best eurovision entry, ever.

  • Beauty and poetry in lyrics and in music

are all very much subjective ? ;-)

I never said music ofr itself is subjective, I said personal music taste is , which doesn't make a truly exceptional song of a

sufficient one , no matter how I prefer to listen to it . Quite a different concept, anyway I don't want to bother you anymore

with this debate and I thank you for your kind attention and comments .

    I appreciated your courtesy setheuroviosn.

    Au revoir chéri .

  • The pleasure is mutual, I appreciate your insightful comments, even if I don't agree with all of them.

  • but if we talk about songs we basically talk about music and lyrics .

As for the music, it's inadequate, it was more to underline Amina's sensuality than to make beautiful the song.

As for the lyrics, they're not silly tested but anyway they're ordinary, more looking to daily clichés than poetic verses : and you can trust this last opinion of mines because I' m French ;-)

Not a kinda typical French " chauvin " - maybe because my father is not French native - but I'm 100% French !

  • Mon chéri , I know taste in music is subjective - I said it in my comment -

what is not so subjective are things like beauty and poetry in lyrics or the same beauty of a melody or of any kind of music else .

" C'est le dernier qui a parlé qui a raison " may have a captivate repeated sound , Amina is such a pretty woman who still can grip millions of men - I guess you're one among them ;-) - her short exotic dance on the stage is the final touch ,

  • Beauty and poetry in lyrics, beauty of a melody or any kind of music... yep, all these things are very much subjective too, I'd say. LDqaP's "captivate repeated sound" as you put it I find magical. And you say music is subjective, but I didn't get that out of your comment apart from that remark. After all, music is very abstract. Still, you know, I absolutely adore "Lusitana paixao" and think LDqaP had more class than Carola's song, so it's not the entire story.

  • Don't exagerate : a good song but not that exceptional , and I'm French !

I know taste is subjective , but if we look at both music and lyrics , in 1991 Portugal had the best song and kicked Sweden & France .

  • I also love "Lusitana paixao" but I don't think it's that easy to stamp one song with the title "the best". And there is this magic over "Le dernier qui a parlé...". I do feel it's truly exceptional. Frankly, it doesn't matter if you're French or not; taste in music is all subjective, after all.

  • My God, have no words. Should have won.

  • One of the two songs in Eurovision chronicles that have real artistic value (the other one is 'Nocturne'). Still beautiful and moving - as True Music should be.

Too bad Amina stopped recording - I think she acts now.

  • I was 11 this year and I watched eurovison with my mother. This was our favorite song, hands down, and I haven't seen or heard about it in 18 years.

But I checked it out now and yes, it is as good as I remembered.

    Very pleasant tune.

  • i was 13 when i heard this song with my family as well. A couple of days ago i remembered it and i found it here. And yes, it is as good as i remembered as well, after 18 years without hearing it!!

  • I agree with the fact that France should have won that year, this was by far the most challenging, sophisticated, contemporary and delicate entry of 1991. I feel like France's victory was robbed.

  • good for you^^

  • sexy....and the song should have won too...hands down.

  • This is a beautiful song. I remember this as a kid watching the show. it should have won.

  • According to today's rules, I think this would have been the winner...like it was supposed to be.

When you get 12 points from 1 country, but nothing from 11 others, that's considered better. But if you get 1 point from 12 countries, I think it's better because you've reached out to more people that way.

  • I fully agree. I can hardly believe that the 'more-12-points-declares-winner' rule was in effect for so long.

  • With the current system, it would have won :-(.

  • @setheurovision94 I think, they copied it from sports. For example in formula one when they tie in points, the one who scores more victories becomes champion. For sure, it's not ideal for eurovision, where the song who is most liked all over europe should win.

  • @lilacinsd Yes, it may have been a bad rule but France awarded no points to Sweden compared to Sweden's five for France this year. Regardless of the song quality, that is bad practice.

  • i still remember this entry although i was a child that period!..great song from france..very sensational...

  • Oh my god, she is beautiful. XD

  • The biggest travesty in Eurovision history was that this didn't win. It could have changed so many people's perceptions of what Eurovision is. Musically it's brilliant - interesting, catchy, it effortlessly mixes together two musical styles.

  • tell me about it kinda shows you how those things work.

  • @MoleinaHole I completely agree. its a really nice song and performance. shame it didnt win.

  • @MoleinaHole yes it was! Such a shame! A dumb pop song winning over this amazing performance&song! Downright shame!

  • First of all the whole italian production was the worst ever in the history of ESC. Full of mistakes etc..

    France should have been winner...

    AMAZING SONG !!!!!!

  • anyone could tell me the complete name of this beautiful woman?

  • Amina Alaoui

  • Amina Annabi :)

  • Haha, i like it a lot! It's very special! :D Songs like this are not in the competition anymore! It's a shame! :S

  • the best eurovision song ever...and she is the most beautiful singer ever to grace the event...one of the sexiest songs too...the woman is pure class.A refined french/north african beauty.

  • cant get enough of this-one of the sexiest songs ever.

  • yeah me too now... :-D

p.s. it's a totally different view on the song now... but it's still great... :-P :-D

  • There should have been a tie for 1rst place that year.

  • One of my all time favourite Eurovision songs.

  • Far more stylish than Carola. But of course everyone looks to France on style.

  • Sorry all, Carolas song was a little bit better - she won.

    as simple as that...
