I don't recall Doug being introduced in any of the earlier episodes...so I am thinking that he was a last minute fill to let Jack finally get a life partner at the end of the series. Doug is cute and sweet, but I think Jack really blew it when he screwed up his relationship with Tobie. Jack and Tobie together was a match made in heaven.

@Labyrinth1959 Doug is pacey's brother and has been in pretty much all seasons just not very frequently.

@Labyrinth1959 as I recall, Pacey always called Doug 'gay dougie' or something like that. One season Pacey had an affair with a teacher, there was a hurricane, and he and doug ended up in her house for the storm. Pacey kept making comments about Doug being gay so the teacher wouldn't encourage Doug. I'll always have a special spot in my heart for Kerr Smith (Jack). He's one hot dude!

There is a special series devoted to Doug That explained how he entered the story line. I agree on the Kerr Smith. I understand that he is straight, but he sure captured the tribulations of gay life. Great actor.

@Labyrinth1959 A special series? do you mean scenes in this show? I've watched this show so many times...Deputy Doug! That's what Pacey referred to him as. But, Pacey always made comments about Doug being gay. Doug was such a clean queen in his apartment, everything just so, and Pacey being a slob... LOL OY! I gotta stop or I'll end up watching it all over again and I've had enough of Dawson and Joey yapping in their inconsequential, existential manner. Still...Jack scenes are tempting.

I love the symmetry of this show and the fact that it began when Jen came into their lives and it ends with Jen leaving their lives. It's very sad that she died, but I think it's beautiful that she left her baby to Jack and the fact that he and Doug are in love and will raise her together.
