  • Very good sound!

Please let us see your left hand!

    Best regards.

    BEN

  • You can really get the sound of James out of that bass!!!!! Wow, impressive

  • wow, man , you are one of the best funk bass players out there! i've heard some of your other videos, & wow! total influence for me!

  • What kind of flatwounds are you using here?

  • wat is that thing sticking up under where he plays on the pick gaurd?

  • @KincaidBass it's called a thumb rest for those people who play with their thumb and need something to anchor their fingers on.

  • i love how all the people doing james jamerson covers on youtube do it in his one finger style

  • @mw2727 i think everyone should have their own stlye. ya you can play like him but what you neeed to do is play like yourself. that's when you findout if you are a true bassist

  • @KincaidBass ......I DON'T THINK YOU'VE EVER LISTENED TO THE MAN.........YOU ARE SPEAKING ABOUT MY FRIEND AND ONE OF THE TRUE TALENTS ON YOUTUBE.......YOU BETTER LISTEN AND NOT SPEAK....MY FATHER ALWAYS SAID YOU LEARN MORE BY LISTENING THAN BY TALKING........

  • That's great I didn't know the bass was key.... u hit it on the nose..awesome

  • It sounds to me like you're dragging just a tad. I say there's no sense in playing with only one finger just because Jamerson did. Jamerson was Jamerson. Your tone is awesome, though.

  • why does he have that metal thing covering the strings?

  • It's afaik a part from old horseshoe pick ups, but on modern basses it's just there for aesthetic purposes.

  • Many thanks for this post. If only James could know how treasured he has become to so very many people and all credit to those who emulate his style and through him find their own way. All the best.

  • Amazing tone!

  • don't forget about Carol Kaye she played on a lot of motown tunes

  • good job

your bass is nice and sounds wonderful you need to pay it out of an ampeg B100 they are made for each other

  • How old is that p bass?

  • its a precision you wally

  • Beautiful!!

  • que pedo?

  • perfect tone :)

  • Awesome, pity we couldn't see your left hand.

Would love to hear you play the bassline to "Shoo-Be-Doo-Be-Doo-Da-Day" by Stevie Wonder :-)

  • I can't see your fingers of the other hands.

    They are the important ones.

and use 2 fingers with your pisicato cause going faster is going to be hard with one finger unless you managed it

that would be cool to see.

  • Man, you did not understand!!! This guy is showing Mr. Jamerson right hand technique!!!

  • dude, thats the classing hook (one finger) thing jamerson did

  • Sounds pretty close to me bro, you got "the hook" going on there. Keeping the pickup cover on forces your right hand into the JJ position but I wonder if it also helps the tone of the pickup.

  • Jamerson lives!

  • Cool, you are using the same "index finger only" Jamerson technique. NICEEEEEE!!!

  • Nice!! if it wasn't for Jamerson I would say that tone sucks, I never like p basses until I heard James =)

  • wow so what is your tone??? what is you favorit bass

  • I don't know I've always liked musicman stingrays and I still do but I guess I just felt in love with vintage fenders (Specially jazz basses) What is your favourite bass?

  • well im very proud to say that music man is my tone i started out with a squier p bass used it stock for about 3 years and finally i put a gotoh bridge then added emg pick ups and then i finally got my music man stingray as a gift then i used that as my main bass and bought flat wounds for my p-bass and put some foam raised my action its my version of the 1964 p-bass aka the funk machine other then that i have a modulus flea 5 very high end stuff on it full bartolini i just love it and i have a

  • custom jazz i love them all ohh btw my flatwounds on the p bass are10 months old i dont ever plan on changing them yup unless i happen to get another old p-bass then ill transfer them :) yup

  • HAHA! I like modulus flea basses too! but that's a different story...I wish I had one =( I have jazz bass copy by SX wich sounds lovely and I added it a dimarzio pickup on the neck and I tried flatwounds for the first time on it and I'm not thinking of going back to roudwounds! I also have probably the best stingray copy with a seymour douncan pickup and a badass bridge, That's killer and I paid it really cheap

  • I personally love Fender Jazz Basses, especially fretless.

Love your work I wil never be able to reach your level but it has been a big help already to my playing and its the first day I found you. If you were in my band it would sound fantastic. I do have a request for steely Dan or Doobies, you might enjoy them I have Josie just about right for me that is. If you have time pls check out our stuff but pls read bio first.
