  • METAL

  • hurr durr i am in grade eight and i listen to old music that makes me smarter than the other kids at school this generation sucks their music sucks they suck i hate justin beiber that makes me smert

  • @fizzypopism Your "mockery" only serves as a reflection of your own defects. Poor soul.

  • @GoZuko Your overly verbose language screams of pretenciousness.

I love Donovan, but I hate how some people objectify his great work for the sake of looking smarter than other kids in their high school.

  • @GoZuko Also, even if I did dislike Donovan, how does that make me a bad person? Are you out of your mind? I could say "You don't like the Big Lebowski, I suppose that's because you're an elitist scumbag". People aren't necessarily bad just because they have a different opinion that you. My SOUL is defective because I apparently didn't like a band. What the hell. That's batshit insane.

  • @fizzypopism shut up.

  • @Interminater Yeah, real affective bro. I'm scalded by your caustic wit.

  • @fizzypopism shh.

  • I'm a teenager. I love Donovan. I love musicians who came out in the 60's and 70's and made (or in some cases like in the case of music, still make) such great music. My generation doesn't have good music, sadly. And of course this is such a classic poem, have always loved it.

  • brand new wiz wad up daw east lets go dont gt me any of dat south side shit do daw we north east side bitch so on thoose nutsdaw meek millz all day flamerz 4

  • Re Donovan's "Irishness." First, as was noted by reference to Wikipedia, he lives in Ireland. Second, one can be both Scottish and Irish at the same time. An American might say "I'm Italian"--meaning "I'm of Italian heritage," just so there are many people of Irish heritage in Glasgow, where Donovan grew up. Even more to the point, "Donovan" is an Irish name of Gaelic origin. So, I don't have specific proof he is one of the many "Glasgow Irish," the circumstantial evidence is compelling.

  • Good old Donovan hes great what a complicated poem to attempt to sing I am not sure he makes a success of this, but its nice.

    Kind Regards

    Jim Clark

poetryreincarnations where great poets live again.

  • I got an A+ doing this poem in my Literature class last year. It's awesome!

  • @LUXAETERNA6603

Well we didn't finish the topic here.

  • @Idaten001 what do you mean?

  • @sdgakatbk The Song is part of the album HMS DONOVAN absolute rare

  • When did he record this? I've never heard this. I laugh when I heard this as reading the poem doesn't give me as serious a feeling as this song does.

  • @sdgakatbk It's on his "HMS Donovan" album from 1971

  • This is a good video i made a cool Jaberwock Video on my channel check it out we did it for english class

  • I've got shivers each time I listen to that song... It's so great. I love Jabberwocky poem!

  • Bonjour, vous aimez les sixties ? écoutez et podcastez mon émission "le super son des 60's" sur le site de plumfm. You like the 60's ? please, listen and podcast my broadcast "le super son des 60's", connect to "plumfm". Salut et faites gaffe au rock and roll.

  • For those of you who do not know, this song is about a hero going off to fight a brutal monster, typically depicted as a small rodent killing a raccoon, and how the town did celebrate their hero's victory but in time everyone forgets the heroic deed and the town returning to their ways before the monster came.

  • This makes him sound like he ahs a very strong Irish accent. It actually fits the song and I love this

  • @xXChenjixNoxKazeXx

Maybe, he is Scottish though. The green guitar with the red circle has its design actualy in accordance with Irish tradition. =)

  • @p3p51phr34k He is Scottish.

  • @p3p51phr34k HAHAHA. What is it with Irish and trying to claim absolutely everything as your own? Green guitars are Irish too now HAHA

Donovan is from Scotland I believe, and I doubt he is uses a green guitar to subliminally signal 'Irish tradition'.

  • Comment removed

  • 1. I am not Irish

    2. Im not saying wikipedia knows it all, but check it out

    3. I DO enjoy his music and shared my opinion, I believe that is the point of comments

  • @xXChenjixNoxKazeXx he is from Scotland, though most people outside of the British isles cant tell the difference between the accents, they are fairly similar to be fair.

  • This sends shivers down my spine.

  • Very nice song

  • Love it..thanks for posting...:)

  • I really like Omnia's version of the poem. Check it out!

  • Brilliant!

  • I like this version better

  • songs like this are what make donovan the nerdiest musician of the late 60's.

  • It's a shame that Donovan isn't recognized as the genius he really is I think he gives Lennon a challenge in terms of pure song writing talent the music fits the poem perfectly

  • @RealMusicHasSoul93 , he would have worked well with Syd Barret if Barret didnt go nuts...

  • Perfect. I love how the sword goes snicker-snack, it really gives you the feel of what's happening.

  • this is realy nice

  • epic epicness!

  • Best song ever

  • i understood every word,,,jibberjubie,,wibber woobie

  • I never understood this song o_O

  • @kor34n Lewis Carroll is not crap. If you knew his story you would be facinated by it.

  • Donovan lifted this melody and chords from his own song, 'Celtic Rock' off his early 70s album 'Open Road.'

  • <3 Just straight up love.

  • lol, I've ad this poem memorized since eighth grade

my english teacher was really weird, but cool too.

  • Can anyone tell where was this song originally published? And when? I can't seem to dig out any Donovan's LP with it.

  • @bertodsera

It's on the album HMS Donovan, available on CD

  • OMFG! i knew i heard Johnny Depp say 1 line in alice in wonderland!

  • The film isn't that good, Tim Burton took a childrens novel and does what Burton does with his regular line up and turns it into a mmelenchonic tale of Amnesia lol

But if you go knowing what to expect its fine

  • Awesome! Used to listen to this asa kid. And when Johnny Depp said one of the lines in this song, for Alice in Wonderland I was happy!!!

  • insipid uninspired-depp gives this poem the reading it deserves-with menace heroics

  • @phillfoote dude i have no idea what you just said but i think it was good, either way if you talk like that all the time you must be extreamly smart

and this song makes the poem just that much better

  • @phillfoote Well it may help typing in sentences for I have not a clue what you are saying good squire.

  • @JimiMusic I was not really impressed by this version.Johnny Depp did a good job in the new Alice in Wonderland. There is a better version listed in related videos by JustAudio. is that clue enough

  • @JimiMusic He's referring too Johnny Depp. New Alice In Wonderland.

  • @phillfoote Johnny Depp just spoke the poem. Donovan is actually singing it.

  • @SpencerM1A1 and badly-he has stripped this poem of all its menace and vigour-its about slaying a monster not cuddling kittens-i refer you to justaudio2008 in list of other versions tho if you find that too scary stick with this mush

  • wheres dylan when we need him to put donovan in his place-insipid uninspired -this poem should bristle with menace heroics not mush

  • Absolument fantastic !

  • i feel like blasing it when i hear this idk why lol

  • I love the vibe this song gives off, I plan on going to the alice in wonderland movie at the cinema and sing this during the previews, partially to see who will get mad at me and partially to find other creative and appreciative fans.

  • @ryswe

    IF i am a fag

You must be an uneducated asshole without any other form of self fulfillment besides shooting off your mouth.

  • watch out fellas, this ones got fangs

  • @ryswe

    Nah, not fangs. Claws.

And I do apologize for the obvious bitchy attitude, I'm not like that normally, You're very much entitled to think that I am a fag, but please, give me credit. I am not a bundle of sticks. If you were referring to anything other than that, please make it clear. :P

  • @TatianasaurusRexx Oh, sorry, i thought you were sticks..... Sorry!!!!

  • @ryswe

Oh, it's quite alright! It's not often that I am compared to something so unsubstantial. More often I'm seen as something with... fangs... :)

  • idk why but i think of pippin when i hear this.

  • I like his accent and also the feeling of "old time folk song" in this. It really adds impact to the song.

  • Haunting

  • It is beautiful

  • This really is the best version of this poem anywhere.

  • Maaaaan, I always thought that there should be a song for this. XD AND I just now found this, so i'm HAPPY. Haha But yeah, SEXY voice!!! :o

  • 'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe. "Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!" He took his vorpal sword in hand: Long time the manxome foe he sought So rested he by the Tumtum tree, And stood a while in thought. And, as in uffish thought he stood,
  • this is from @Hirotamoy. The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, And burbled as it came! One two! One two! And through and through The vorpal blade went snicker-snack! He left it dead, and with its head He went galumphing back. "And hast thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy! Oh frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!" He chortled in his joy. 'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves

  • *Scottland*

  • Scottish, actualy

  • shhh dont talk

  • this is a very good song

  • my mum used to do a brilliant rendition of this when we were kids, great stuff!!!!

  • Marianne Faithfull recorded this, many years before Donovan on her 1965 album Come What May. It has just been put up on YT and well worth listening to.

  • this is really gorgeous.

    it sounds like poem feels.

    if that makes sense.

  • i lv this poem! so wonderful! caaloh callah!

  • this is great but Check out the song Mama Frog by Ambrosia it has the Jabberwocky in it towards the end...highly recommended

  • I suggest reading the Annotated Alice by Martin Gardner

  • Hip hip for Donovan and down with Hooverhummin' Disney. Donovan is authentic. His feelings and experiences are sung and he develops minstrel art for modern ears (not Mickey Mouse ears.)

  • finally one closeish 2 the one im learning.

  • It's filled with meaning that it's likely only Dodgson understood, but there is much a reader can interpret. I adore the song btw it's one of the best songs I've ever heard. The melody is pure genius. I do like the Disney version, even though it doesn't make sense. xXx

  • i love this poem, and he does add a fitting tune to it.

  • This is beatuiful. Please don't ever take this video away!

    P.S. I love his voice ^_^

  • Today is my first time hearing this singer, i knew the poem but he got to display a great emotion

    Thank for it

  • I LUVE this poem, and Donovan added such a nice melodie to it. <3

  • edward lear was certainly pitching to a fairly literate readership.nonsense is as nonsense does, you know.now get bloody memorizing.

  • fantastical nonsense! As is all of Carroll's nonsense verse. And really, the story totally makes sense if you pay attention, and get some help from Humpty Dumpty

  • yes it does really make sense

i was just thinking that when i read the poem

    +1 for donovan

  • I wish I could find a live version of this, that would be an amazing video

  • One of my favorite songs ever.

  • Beautiful. Simply beautiful.

  • this is such a great rendition of a poem.

it captures the essence of the poem imo.

  • I like this poem so much ! Donovan sings as no one

  • I really like this. Kind of spooky.

  • one of my favourite donovan-tunes. Unbelievably great<3
