There many singers I do not care for as far as material or style but I am always able to put aside my personal taste in face of talent..

Of course Celine isn't Edith Piaf. Celine is vocally a better singer than Edith Piaf. However, Edith Piaf sings with pain and Celine sings with joy so it is a totally different thing. Like comparing apples to oranges.

No one can sing like Edith Piaff. She is a legend. I don't know french but when i listen Edith, i can feel the song and almost understand the lyrics. I couldn't feel the same way with Celine Dion. Of course she is a great singer. But Edith is another story!

She has a great voice, but I think she overdid this song with it and did not felt it the way she should have while singing such a beautiful, meaningful song. I much prefer Piaf's original and Loius Armstrong's version because of that.

Celine has one of the best voices in the biz, but she doesn't FEEL this song. You can't fake it. It's still a good performance, but the reason Edith or Judy and others without great voices have the status they do is that they bare their souls with their audience, something very, very few perfomers of any kind do. It is extremely rare, painful and precious.

I just listened to Renee Olstead, Vladimir, Edith Piaf and Celine Dion sing this song. Celine blows them all away with her version and the above singers can really wail too. Celine est la meilleure chanteuse du monde--Celine is the best singer in the world--my opinion.
