  • Holy Smokes. That was a pretty good knockdown. Is it possible to lose a J-24 in a wipe out? Can you get down flooding through the companionway? I was at the helm of a tall rigged Farr 30 running in a 30 knot blow when a crewmember decided to pop the tweaker. BANG to the stop it went. The chute luffed then SNAP! It filled and over we went. Can't believe we didn't lose the rig. The water line was about a foot from the companionway. I thought, "we're a bunch of dorks." Embarrassing.

  • It is posible lose your boat.

  • It is not possible to capsize a J-24, however u can severely damage the boat.

  • wow thats sooo false. in bermuda (where i live) a few weeks ago we had a 55kt squall and a boat called new wave broached, then capsized, then sunk. it was recover last week. search about it...

  • dont even try to argue cuz the boat my friend sails actually saved 3 of the crew so...

  • Be sure to keep the stern lockers fastened.

A J24 on its side will float with the companionway above the water. However, if you are getting dragged sideways by the chute you can create a big enough wave to put water down below. A badly times wave can put enough water into the boat to sink it.

  • Anyone have an opinion on the Lopez blocks? I've been thinking strapping some on my boat.

  • They are a bit tricky cause the tend to get stuck but once your learn how to use them they become an asset.

  • i got some knockoffs thru one of the catalogs (Mauri Pro or APS). Was very difficult to set the angle on these so they worked well. If you want them try to contact Steve Lopez at the Raritan Yacht Club in NJ USA for the ones he makes. They are far superior.

  • Nice Chinese Boys !!!!!!
