Quite a reunion going on here! I worked for Ray in the late 1960s, along with Lucille, Kay, "Mar" (Margie), and a washboard player named Bob Raggio. One of our regular customers was Dr. Demento.
I have nothing to do with this video. I just wanted to say I've been reading the comments and have just witnessed what is probably one of the only meaningful set of comments on this website anymore. YouTube makes the world a little smaller. :-)
Brings back memories. I lived in Glendale, Caligornia. Most of the jazz records in my collection I bought at this store. I started buying jazz records in his store in the 1960's. In the 60's he had walls of 78's in his store until most of them were destroyed in the 1971 earthquake.
I used to work at Ray's in the 80's. Polished that counter many, many times. It pretty much looked exactly like in the video - then, the incoming CD business killed it and vinyl was dead. It was a book store for a while and now the building is occupied by a lawyer's office.
I worked at Ray's in the mid to late 70's. Ray was married to Kay. His sister was Maggie. He had a son & daughter. The son Jeff died quite young bit I remeber them all. Who are you?
I worked there from 1983 until the day it closed, January 11th, 1992. I am the customer in the video. You must know Micky, also shown. I also knew Jeff a little.
I'm Dorian. I used to work for Ray's under Allen, with Jeff and Ant. George Hocutt of the CRC would come in for a review of the recent receipts which had steadily declined and then vinyl was completely dead. People were reluctant early on to buy into the CD because they hated the plastic jewelcases. They still do.
Your comment really kracht me up! I worked with you quite a few times, nice to hear from you. I saw Allen two years ago at the UCLA Festival of Books.
So Allen's still around, eh? He used to complain how most record companies didn't even know what they had in their back catalogues...case in point: Liberty. He'd say he would go over there and would have to reeducate them on their treasures...
Have you heard anything from Ms. Exhaulted (Ant) or Mr. Honeyman? 'Where are they now'...
