@102dred Alien 4 is supposed to happen around 300 years after the first Alien movie. Prometheus takes place before the Alien movie. So there are chances that we won't learn about earth being destroyed in Prometheus, because there's plenty of time for it to happen after that. And anyway, this is a deleted scene, so it's not really cannon.

The trouble with Alien Rez, was it had sum decent Ideas, but didnt explore them enough. Basically nearly every human character in this film is no gud, all Ripley sees arnd her r humans that pretty much hav No humanity. Her only potential friend ends up being the Android lol. This film wud hav been so much better if we saw Ripley half way through the film ultimately turn against the humans, and just join the Xenos as her new family. We see her bond with them so this wud ha made more sense.

It wud hav made sense to make her a antagonist now, only way to carry on her character who has now been Immortalized. @Kitousha Prometheus is set on the exact same universe. The only subject that's missing in the film, are the "Xenos" themselves. The story is based far apart from the Alien franchise.

@SkemeKOS thanks Mr. Obvious. Didn't you get what I mean? For me, Alien 3, and Alien: Resurrection never happened, because they "force" the sequels to happen. And for AVP, it is non-canonical for that saga does not fit with the continuation of Alien universe. Alien "created" thousand years after the time AVP where suppose to "happen".

Did anyone notice that during the film one of the guys says earth is a shit hole yet at the end of the film as they approach earth it looks beautiful with lush green vegetation and blue oceans. Think they to remove that line when they changed the ending?.
Alot of people say this is a bad movie, and It did shamelessly Ressurect her character wen it really wasnt needed after Alien3. But since they did bring her bk, I like the direction it was kinda going where Ripley has took on part of the Xeno's DNA and has sum of their powers, theres become a bond between her and the Xenos and I think this was interesting. Wud hav been awesome if they made another movie that explored this route and took it even further.
They should make a Alien 5. It would be interesting to see what happens on Earth. Did the xenomorphs survive the crash of the military vessel? What kind of people still live on the ruins of Earth? What caused Earths decline? It could have a apocalyptic Mad Max style to it. I liked Alien 1,2,3 & 4. Maybe they should explore a story about a baby Queen Alien as it matures into a deadly beast. That's something we haven't seen before. I got a script ready, shipping it to James Cameron now.
It should have ended with the 3rd movie, despite some of its flaws. The endig was so satisfying, Ripley would no longer be hunted nor haunted by the xenos. The 1st time I watched the 3rd one, I was not aware of the 4th one (saw them all around 2005 for the first time) due to the endig of the 3rd one. When I learned there was a 4th one, I was like "a 4th one?....thats pretty weird". When I finally got to see it, I understood that the Alien saga was fucked up beyond repair...

Look at "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". Those Aliens were kind. "Alien" was a movie to contradict that opinion.
You should see some of Sigourney Weaver's other films. "Alien" launched her career as a serious actress for other films. "The Year of Living Dangerously", "A Map of the World", are but two.

We could put just about any horror movie or story, like Carpenter's "The Thing" or Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness" into the isolation catagory, but something like "Escape From New York" or the "Paranormal Activity" franchise into the mankind-better-not-get-too-big-for-his-britches genre.
I think the only other movie I saw her in was Ghostbusters, of course, but was it Broadcast News, I think?

@piiramid Errr...Predators sucked ass compared to the original. It's a updated copy of the source material. More Predators, more humans, a whole bunch of audience grabbing effects and very little imagination!!! An enjoyable romp, but in no way was it awsome.

@moparmonster1965 IMHO, Alien and Aliens made an excellent combo. Alien 3 (directed by David Fincher of later "Fight Club" fame) was not necessary, although it did have some interesting stand-alone themes, because the condemnation of violence by men against women, though always present, became in vogue during those years, due to the 1989 Ecole Polytechnique Massacre 3 years earlier.
Alien 4? A neophyte French director's movie with no real understanding of the actual themes.
That said, the only themes I can detect in either of the first movies are isolation, a key ingredient in most horror movies or books, be it geographic, psychological, emotional, or some combination of the two. The other theme I picked up on, from the second movie, is to not let ourselves be deceived into thinking that we're the top of the food chain everywhere we step, and that all the grandeur of the things we've created cannot be swept away by chance.
Prince of Darkness was okay, but it could've been a lot better. I'm a big horror movie fan, but have been left wanting for some time now. One of my all-time favorites was the third Exorcist movie. If you haven't seen it, don't poo-poo it before you do because it completely ignores that second abortion of a movie and was written and directed by the book's author, William Peter Blatty. Carpenter was in negotiations to direct the movie, but disagreed about the ending and didn't get the nod.
@pickledtochus I liked most of Carpenter's early work, especially "The Thing, (inspired, in part by "At the Mountains of Madness)" which is why I mentioned it before. It captured the clausterphobic feel of Alien pretty well, I thought. "Escape from New York" is also among my top faves for its gritty feel and sense of hopelessness.

"Alien" had the feeling of being on a huge cargo vessel slowly advancing through the ocean in a dark fog, which is essentially what is was, except that were are in space instead of at sea. "The Thing" was quite scary too. I'd go nuts if I were one of those guys, lol! xD

The trouble with Alien Rez, was it had sum decent Ideas, but didnt explore them enough. Basically nearly every human character in this film is no gud, all Ripley sees arnd her r humans that pretty much hav No humanity. Her only potential friend ends up being the Android lol. This film wud hav been so much better if we saw Ripley half way through the film ultimately turn against the humans, and just join the Xenos as her new family. We see her bond with them so this wud ha made more sense.

@Chrissiieeee Thanx, in Alien4 we had a whole new Ripley here, one that has took on the DNA of the enemy she spent practically yrs to wipe out, shes basically near superhuman now. It wud hav made sense to make her a antagonist now, only way to carry on her character who has now been Immortalized. Its only ashame the director crumbled on this Idea half way through, and chose instead to make just a straight forward sci-fi movie lol. Ahh, thats Hollywood for ya.

@Kitousha Prometheus is set on the exact same universe. The only subject that's missing in the film, are the "Xenos" themselves. The story is based far apart from the Alien franchise.

And for AVP, it is non-canonical for that saga does not fit with the continuation of Alien universe. Alien "created" thousand years after the time AVP where suppose to "happen".

Same goes for Terminator 3 and 4 to me though....they DONT exist at all!!!!!!

Alot of people say this is a bad movie, and It did shamelessly Ressurect her character wen it really wasnt needed after Alien3. But since they did bring her bk, I like the direction it was kinda going where Ripley has took on part of the Xeno's DNA and has sum of their powers, theres become a bond between her and the Xenos and I think this was interesting. Wud hav been awesome if they made another movie that explored this route and took it even further.

They should make a Alien 5. It would be interesting to see what happens on Earth. Did the xenomorphs survive the crash of the military vessel? What kind of people still live on the ruins of Earth? What caused Earths decline? It could have a apocalyptic Mad Max style to it. I liked Alien 1,2,3 & 4. Maybe they should explore a story about a baby Queen Alien as it matures into a deadly beast. That's something we haven't seen before. I got a script ready, shipping it to James Cameron now.

It should have ended with the 3rd movie, despite some of its flaws. The endig was so satisfying, Ripley would no longer be hunted nor haunted by the xenos. The 1st time I watched the 3rd one, I was not aware of the 4th one (saw them all around 2005 for the first time) due to the endig of the 3rd one. When I learned there was a 4th one, I was like "a 4th one?....thats pretty weird". When I finally got to see it, I understood that the Alien saga was fucked up beyond repair...

You have already understood all of the themes, which existed before the creation of this movie "Alien".
The human species, which thinks itself "good", is already bad enough.
Look at "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". Those Aliens were kind. "Alien" was a movie to contradict that opinion.
You should see some of Sigourney Weaver's other films. "Alien" launched her career as a serious actress for other films. "The Year of Living Dangerously", "A Map of the World", are but two.

We could put just about any horror movie or story, like Carpenter's "The Thing" or Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness" into the isolation catagory, but something like "Escape From New York" or the "Paranormal Activity" franchise into the mankind-better-not-get-too-big-for-his-britches genre.
I think the only other movie I saw her in was Ghostbusters, of course, but was it Broadcast News, I think?

@piiramid I agree except, AvP1 was terrible and AvP:R was great, it had horror, action, the Aliens actually acted brutal, menacing, and sneaky unlike in AvP1 were they just ran around like a bunch of jungle cats attacking anything that moved. And the Predators in Avp1 were a bunch of pussies that could barely kill anything, in AvP:R the Predator in that movie was kicking all types of ass, look up "AVP requiem sewer battle".

At least Alien Resurrection didn't have a wrestling match between the monsters and took place in the future.

You could tell that the director couldn't speak English, otherwise he'd have puked at the atrocious dialog. Sigourney Weaver deliberately sabotaged this movie to kill the franchise. There is not one single scene in this film that isn't painfully horrible. Dan Hedaya?! Why not get Adam Sandler or Tom Arnold!!

@moparmonster1965 IMHO, Alien and Aliens made an excellent combo. Alien 3 (directed by David Fincher of later "Fight Club" fame) was not necessary, although it did have some interesting stand-alone themes, because the condemnation of violence by men against women, though always present, became in vogue during those years, due to the 1989 Ecole Polytechnique Massacre 3 years earlier.
Alien 4? A neophyte French director's movie with no real understanding of the actual themes.

That said, the only themes I can detect in either of the first movies are isolation, a key ingredient in most horror movies or books, be it geographic, psychological, emotional, or some combination of the two. The other theme I picked up on, from the second movie, is to not let ourselves be deceived into thinking that we're the top of the food chain everywhere we step, and that all the grandeur of the things we've created cannot be swept away by chance.

Prince of Darkness was okay, but it could've been a lot better. I'm a big horror movie fan, but have been left wanting for some time now. One of my all-time favorites was the third Exorcist movie. If you haven't seen it, don't poo-poo it before you do because it completely ignores that second abortion of a movie and was written and directed by the book's author, William Peter Blatty. Carpenter was in negotiations to direct the movie, but disagreed about the ending and didn't get the nod.

@pickledtochus I liked most of Carpenter's early work, especially "The Thing, (inspired, in part by "At the Mountains of Madness)" which is why I mentioned it before. It captured the clausterphobic feel of Alien pretty well, I thought. "Escape from New York" is also among my top faves for its gritty feel and sense of hopelessness.

"Alien" had the feeling of being on a huge cargo vessel slowly advancing through the ocean in a dark fog, which is essentially what is was, except that were are in space instead of at sea. "The Thing" was quite scary too. I'd go nuts if I were one of those guys, lol! xD
