  • this man is completely honest... such a refreshing lack of bullshit. god bless you bergman

  • Most evil-looking person I have ever seen. I like his films though.

  • Who cares if he was Swedish, who cares if his English is bad or good, he was a godamm genius!

  • great filmmker but an ahole,, can i say that

  • @AntiFaithNY thats probably true :)

  • His ACCENT. My god.. It doesnt sound right.

  • @musepigg He's swedish

  • @angu1984 Duh, I know, I'm Swedish too and I sound nothing like that.

  • @musepigg He was swedish

  • "Foouhlknaer" -lol, grand accent.

  • What word?

  • bergman was atheist

  • Comment removed

  • No artist believes in superstitions!

  • No, he wasnt.

  • He started out as a Dostoevsky but came out as an absurd man, as Camus would say.

  • @pugnaciousboxer2 I don't think so---Even his early stuff is more Camus, Sartre--and Dostoevsky pre 1862 is very different from the Dostoevsky of post 62

  • Man Alive was a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation program that ran on TV throughout the 1970s and showcased broadly spiritual themes. It was an excellent program.

  • believed

  • a sole? only one? you mean a soul?

  • Ingemar Bergman och Agust Strindberg

  • his words are so full of desires and emotions.Bergman loved human being.that is why his films are so beautiful strong and full of love

  • Im glad that im swedish so a don´t have to listen to his bad english all the time :P

  • I would say that his english is remarkable good. He was born 1917 and still he talked better than the average swedish highschool student does today.

  • plotter: I agree. He does speak English very well.

As an American, I can say he speaks better than ALOT of people here. ;)

  • Does more people in Sweden know bergamn than in the rest of the world? (i dont mean people interested in film I mean normal peple, like if you walk on the streets and ask someone if he knows bergman).

  • It depends who you ask i would say but i think about 90% of the people born before the 80s have some relationship to bergman.

  • Everyone knows him. Most people over 16, I'd guess. And most of them don't like him.

  • Why?

  • @phille22 Yeah speak for all of sweden ;)

Sweden is going trough a kind of shallow period so movies like Bergmans are a bit hard to understand for these people. But still "Fanny & Alexander" is shown every x-mas.(The 5 hour version, i might add)

  • @phille22 and most people are studpid too

  • Yeah i guess he´s known but i wouldn´t say he´s especially liked here.

  • genius director

  • genius director

  • true. many geniuses have or had faith just within themselves without being devoted to a religion. For example, Woody Allen.

  • I thought woody allen was an Atheist

  • If I will ever have a son I will call him Ingmar. (Although I'm not Swedish...) R.I.P. Master

  • Be sure to name him Ingemar and not Ingmar then :)

There seems to be a misconception that his name was Ingmar.

  • Thanks a lot for the information. :-)

  • His name was INGMAR not INGEMAR. They are both Swedish names (I'm swedish) but his name was INGMAR.

  • I'm not Swedish so I don't argue...

  • Well actually its Inimar Beryman.

Look on Wikipedia for the right spelling.

  • NICE FANGS

  • Thanx 4 this treasure!

    R.I.P.

  • I'm afraid you're wrong about God, Ingmar. God gave us you and you were a pioneer in so many ways during the Twentieth Century. Bless you and I hope I get to smile in your face someday!

  • There is no god. Bergman was a brilliant man who understood humanities desperate hope that there is something more in life. It is the silence of god.

  • There are two sides to the argument. We cannot help but feel despair because of the nature of living on this earth in what appears to be a godless universe.

  • What he has done for us! A body of work that makes film true art. Andtimeless. How sad I am to know that he is gone -- yes, sad. What a skilled adventurer. How he took the scalpel and went right to the guts of it (the human condition) in such an organized way. Even the most abstract of his films make sense because they compel us to react so strongly. "Persona" knocks me out.

  • thanks a lot for posting... Its such a good interview..

  • Thank you Ingmar Bergman for all you gave to the world of movies! You`re one of the greates directors in the world.

  • Master

  • bergman was a true g. rip brotha.

  • Bye Ingmar. Hoy me duele mucho pensar que un genio como tu ha dejado este mundo, pero se que en el fondo siempre estaras con nosotros a traves del hermoso legado que has dejado para la humanidad.

  • I love you Ingmar.

May you sing with the angels forever

    See you upthere;-)

  • There is no god. Bergman knew that, but in his work he will live forever.

  • One thing we can be certain of is that there are no answers. The question of God is a choice.

His films enlighten us and I think that he is perhaps the foremost filmmakers we have come across.

  • Actually Ingmar belived In other worlds he belived that he would meet his wife again and I hope he did!...

  • descanse en paz...

  • Rest in peace, Mr. Bergman.

  • Thank you Ingemar for your wonderful masterpieces!

    Må du vila i frid

  • RIP a true genius will watch Persona again today in tribute.

  • RIP

  • Sad to see you go. :'( no one will fill those shoes.
