Starting from 1958 she was booed out in every country and opera stage.
And don't forget her hairy elephant legs and saggy labia who looks like a potato bag. Onassis must vomit if he see this 8th wonder of the world between her thighs.
All you people make me laugh! you can come on here and criticise this girl and yet you've never earned a penny with you voices. I would describe you all as a load of 'pseudo-intellectual wankers'....
@dickdomino The same criticism could be used against people who have good comments. Just because people don't sing doesn't mean they don't know what quality is or what their tastes are. I have constructive criticism: her voice is not meant for bel canto coloratura. When she sings Puccini roles or other heavier lyrical pieces she sounds much better.
@dickdomino i think thats so funny if we dont like netrebko we are jelous but if we love her we have good taste....people are so complicated now we cant even express our opinions on a public forum.....well i hate her voice and her singing and i hope eradesso is right...best of luck to everyone
Dame Joan was the first soprano this century to re instate this cabaletta and no one has been able to sing it like she does.I would make Netrenko listen to Joan 100 times a day so she can get it right!
Imagine if Mirella Freni were Hungarian (taking a sledge hammer to Italian), and attacking coloratura with forced chest notes ---- you would have this frankensinger. And that is what we celebrate today at the Met. She sucks, but she's hot.
netrebko's attack at the end, is both forced and the tone is shallow, its almost a scream. lilsten to joan sutherland in bell telephone exceprt or her early glyndboourne purtiani with serafin condutcting or her early london recording for the benchmark peformance of this final cabaleta. by the way it was bonynge who resurrected this ending for joan, note it is absent from callas earlier. and note too, that netrebko's lack of ornament the secon time around also brings it down. brava sutherland!
oh gosh yes i'm so jealous i wish my favourite soprano DEVIA to name one would just screw the final note like Netrebko does but you have to be talented like only Netrebko is to do that!!!!!!!!!!
She seems to breeze along on top of the music rather than sculpting a strong wave phrased line. Though Mariella Devia sings pretty good - however, is too uncharismatic to me personally.
But I have tickets for Donizetti's "Anna Bolena" with MARIELLA DEVIA in 10th of June in Dortmund (Germany) and in 13th of June for Verdi's opera "I due Foscari" with the Italian baritone Renato Bruson!
Well let's hope she continues miscasting herself and singing lots of coloratura so maybe in a couple years she will be just a voiceless bad memory somewhat like Ricciarelli with the difference Ricciarelli had a great instrument at the beginning of the carreer lol
What will we see Netrebko doing next??
Cleopatra maybe?! Why not Semiramide?! Oh wait, Donna Anna and the Queen of the Night! heck throw in Zerbinetta and Konstanze too!!
Why all of you are focusing only on the high note? The bel canto is not based only on the high notes? Consider the rest of the performance... Can you tell anything about the rest? the legato? the connection with the breath all the way???
Some armchair wannabe critic said her last note was flat......ha ha ha sorry mate , its your ears that are flat, you (critics) cant possibly enjoy any performance cos your listening for mistakes, are you like this when you are making love to your wives....ooh darling, you didn't scream ahhhh in the right pitch, possibly because you were holding your leg half an inch out of position,...........
Miss Sutherland is quite generous regarding Miss Netrebko; an opinion I would value over you nobodies. Miss Netrebko acquits herself beautifully here without dispute and to suggest otherwise is ridiculously small minded.
AMEN. seriously, all you bitches hating on her forget to realize: your sitting at home on your computers WISHING you had an opera career, or a significant one rather, while she's out there doing it. so obviously YOU need to learn something she has already learned which is how to achieve success, and until you get where she is you don't have fucking SHIT to say, because all you are now is a bunch of whiney bitches who need to shut up cause no one wants to hear or cares what you have to say. stfu.
this is not a diva in the least...some commercialized woman with an usual sounding coloratura thats sounds a bit stressed...its not in her tessitura at all....pleasssseee someone give me anything else but this Deborah voight i don't care who...i will say her acting compensates fir her vocal short comings
what has opera really come to we would rather have eye candy than vocal technique i wish they wouldn't had gotten rid of ruth at the met her coloratura was suitable for bel canto this is horrible i love anna but stick verismo
She does not feels the role, vocally she is acceptable nothing more. but why is she at the Met when other singers have to suffer ?Her high note is not clean neither well done and a bit screaming
This somewhat cold Puritani excerpt recalls that Anna Netrebko, like Callas in last century, shines not so much with vocal ability, where she is not perfect, than with charisma and presence: "Netrebko is bringing Opera to life as few ever did", as said in September by "Homoclassicus" on the lovely video of Anna dancing Lehár's "Meine Lippen sie Küßen so heiß" at the BBC Last Night of the Proms ( watch?v=p_kaOYC_Fww#wde_lPXo1UU ): *that* is opera!
I can't believe you have the audacity to compare Netrebko and Callas. Callas was actually trained in the bel canto tradition, and she sang many more bel canto roles than Netrebko ever will. Callas also had the control and high notes, not to mention pure bel canto style that Netrebko won't ever have.
Comparing is checking differences. You too are comparing Callas and Netrebko here - which is useful since you do find diffs (on which most are agreeing BTW). So please calm down and respect these two great artists and their other viewers.
she is just good eye candy she is not a great singer its sad how we have lost our good singers to people who seem to fit more in to the pop culture scene swenson's coloratura is way better than netrebko
This is the most mediocre rendition of this aria that I´ve never heard, and believe me I´ve listened almost all the great Elviras: Sutherland, Devia, Gencer, Gruberova, Zeani, O´Flynn, Freni, Ann Swenson and I only have to say Anita stinks. She screws everything she sings up. This is a lack of respect towards all these great singers. Seeing at her believing she´s making an amazing Elvira is one of those "what make me laugh the most"
I went to that performance, and saw the opera from the orchestra level. I have to say that watching the entire production makes you think that the acting and intensity of the voice is amazing! the public just loved Anna's performance and she acted extremely well. It is a conventional production, but it was very good staged and there's a lot of action. The chorus acted well. All teh singers were great, specially vasallo, and of course Relyea.
At last a really interesting comment. I saw the video yesterday & despite having heard the young Joan Sutherland as Elvira was really impressed. Please give a more detailed description as that can add greatly to our appreciation & to the YouTube archive.
Well, this aria is a tremendously difficult piece even for experienced coloratura sopranos. Even Gruberova cut it in some of her Puritani performances! I think Netrebko was very, very courageous to sing it, since other lyric sopranos who sang the role simply omitted it, like Freni. Anyway, I think her singing here is acceptable, but nothing more. I loved her "Ah vieni al tempio" scene, there she was superb! But in more agile parts she doesn't impress me.
Decent singing...the acting was boring though. I felt something from Sutherland and others who have done this song, but not from Netrebko. Sad because I normally don't find her that bad.
I do not think that it is all that fair to balme the direector!!She has her star status! If she did not like something she could have always said so!!

For how long is that last note written in the original score? Perhaps it's just 4 counts so she might be true to the score?

Oh yes Wikipedia being known as the Bible of opera and above all the bible of reliable sources puhleaze
If you base your knowledge of Opera on Wikipedia no wonder you like Netrebko doing Puritani, Sonnambula etc
and by the way Mr Know-it-all
I don't know if you were looking at Afghan Wikipedia but she sure is on both English and Italian Wikipedia sites.
Watch her ART on here if you wanna know what BEL CANTO is all about.

I have watching her art, and she feels well! But the best in BELCANTO since Farinelli & CO is her and your compatriot Lucia Aliberti.
And you did not know this? You? What big gap in knowledge?
