  • Lovers of Midlake should check out a rare late 60's album by Pete McCabe "The Man Who Ate The Plant" very similar vibe to 'Van Occupanther"....

  • I heard this on Fringe.

  • the attic reminds me of the house where they filmed the original "Carrie"

  • Great song and album. Cool video too BUT THEY DON"T SUIT EACHOTHER

  • The hits on this album exceed the quality of Fleet Foxes best imo. However, I prefer Fleet Foxes to most of the Courage of Others.

  • Its hard these days to find bands as good as this - what with all the censorship on the mainstream radios. May I suggest you watch the Video for On & On by FOSSIL COLLECTIVE (And please don't mark as spam - unless you want the world to end up listening to Justin Bieber) xx

  • @Znekeenan Fleet Foxes are the best modern band in my opinion, check them out.

  • @cashJOHNNYcash17

Seriously? In terms of songwriting and musical ability Midlake leave fleet foxes in the dust. Simple truth.

  • This video really pisses me off, I have been listening to this band for years and never seen a music video from them till today, and it ...well...fuck, the video is not fitting the music. i didn't have own picture in my head either, i imagined this song and the rest from this album to be a bit more like the words go...you there is a story behind the music and the characters and the screen play here is not following the script..the music..it's like reading a book first and then watchin the movie

  • Love this band.

  • lovely :)

  • omg i know that chick!! holy crap!! thats awesome!!

  • reminds me of when i was in the taking a walk through the city, love this song.

  • Pure gold.

  • beautiful

  • Midlake's music really lives in it's own world.

  • wonderful way of describing it :)

  • a world shared by fleetwood mac and CSN&Y

  • midlake i love

  • The introduction is from the song "The Jungler (alternate version)" off the Balloon Maker EP

You can kind of hear it if you go "Over there, see...." and the beginning.

  • that's birds for you

  • I like all the Clue weapons... candle stick, wrench, pistol...

  • That intro didn't make any sense (musically at least)

  • it's the theme from the jungler from their earlier album "bamnan and silvercork", just a bit drama'd up. wonder why they put that in there?

  • these guys remind me a little of radiohead..

but like, 70's style radiohead. if that makes sense?

  • Really? Apart from the band themselve's talking about Radiohead, I can't see any similarlity.

More akin to a Nick Drake/Joe Boyd production.

  • well.. not really this song in particular. but there are some of theirs that I have heard and I actually thought it was radiohead. especially the song 'golden hour' .. I guess its just that tim smith has a voice a little bit similar to thom yorke.. but maybe thats a subjective topic. I don't want to start any fights! lol

I'd not thought about it before, but yeah, I do get what you mean by the Nick Drake comment. it has that certain feel too

  • I was listening to The Chemical Brothers' song The Pills Won't Save You Now, and I thought the vocals were provided by Thom Yorke.

Not completely sure of the music, but the vocals are uncanny.

  • come on guys - i can't wait to her where you go from here! my favourie album of the 21st century!

  • Yes, yes. Glad to see there are others out there who realise how good this band are.

  • I love this song.....

  • I would leave my life and go with a box of hopes and a future full of dreams.

  • that was epic indeed

  • That Piano Part at the Beginning is Midlake - Jungler

  • oh soorry i forgot to post this in the last comment, but if anyone likes radiohead then i know alot of songs for them aswell if u wana learn, thankssss

  • anyone wana learn the start (jungler) on piano? contact me i know how to play (its a duet i think im not too sure) its a quite easy song but i only know the start of it tho =[ but its quite cool, nice vid

  • catcrazy, perhaps Midlake didn't intend for the viewer to look that deeply into the video's meaning, hehe. There are so many artists who do that, try to look meaningful and deep by making obscure videos, and end up confusing everyone - doing a media studies degree makes you look at things in a different light, I recon.

This is an awesome song, I love anything in this vein of music. Any recommendations?

  • favorite song of all time =] thank you midlakee! <3

  • the lyrics are totally contradictory to this video... obviously the man doesn't think that losing all of his things is 'no loss.' he's willing to fight to the death about his material treasure here, but in the lyrics is portrayed as more transcendentalist who can survive on just a rabbit and an ox. in fact, the man in the lyrics is the polar opposite of the man in the video. perhaps Midlake doesn't want us to understand? the mystery is part of their charm, apparently.

  • yeah and why are they called midlake when they are clearly not in the middle of a lake. those guys really grind my gears.

  • Hahahaahahaha that was priceless.

  • thank you kind sir, it only took 8 months to get a laugh, could i interest you in a date? I hear "Coupon" the movie is playing in my local theatre.

  • Totally. We can listen to Silver Jews on the way to the theater, Feist on the way back... and maybe watch an episode of Aqua Teen? I mean, that's if you're down...

  • @paulosham I don't know for sure, but the name Midlake could come from the geography of Denton, TX, where the band comes from. There are large lakes on the north and south ends of the city. There are also a set of parks in town called North Lakes and South Lakes parks. It would be just a guess about the name. I could be totally wrong.

  • The piano intro was badass, as is this song!

  • i love this band ²

  • Love The Jungler piano intro. Brilliant stuff as always, Midlake.

  • i love this band

  • We saw Midlake play at the Paleo festival near Geneva last wek - just awesome...a bit freaky how they moved around the stage - very "work-like" - looked like you were under time pressure guys...? And no Encore..? We LOVED your set!

  • genius

  • Midlake is really good at embellishing already amazing songs with even better intros, just like they do here and on many songs that they play live.

  • amazing video//band, love the piano opening!

  • best midlake video

  • yea, i think the opening is a really cool take on the jungler. what a fantastic band. :)

  • midlake is so cool.

  • the piano beginning is a borrowed melody from one of midlake's other songs: the jungler

  • um..that was the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

  • fantastic!

  • the best one out of the lot!

  • That was fantastic.

  • i've been waiting for this one. midlake hit it out of the ball park.

  • i love the piano in the beggining

  • And I liked that piano intro that sounded exactly like The Jungler. Beautiful.

  • Oh wow...

  • That was pretty cool, Nice Job.
