This is NOT the list of all time best songs but the list of BILLBOARD TOP songs... and this list basically shows that mainsteam stuff, with few exceptions, was as shit in 60s as it is now... only after some time people understand what were the real gems and what were not... Like "The Sound of Silence" was nr. 56 in billboard hot 100 in 1966, while The Association - Cherish this was nr.2 and nr.1 was some lazy ballad to army or sth....

Apologize is really the 50th best song of all time? Macarena is the 5th best? It was a big fad, but it is not a good song. The Bee Gees have the most in the top 50? Really? The Bee Gees are better than the Beetles?

WOW! This list is screwed up on so many levels. There are songs missing. There are songs that don't deserve to be in the list. Plus, the songs in the list are way out of order anyway. Are we serious? Flo Rida in the top 100 songs of all time? Really?

Nice piece of work and thanks for your efforts. Including the disclaimer was also smart so you dont take the heat for those who's favorite song didn't make it . However that said... No radio station program director of any ability, or any DJ worth a damn looked at Billboards charts after 1978. All record company hype-to easily manipulated. Sales figures used to be used to determine hits in 50s and 60s. Outcall research stopped their importance.

"Smooth" got royally screwed by having its success divided between not only two years (99-00) but two decades (90s-00s). It's a huge hit : it spend 12 weeks at #1 AND charted for 58 weeks total. MJ had many big hits, but Billie Jean is the only one that charted high enough and long enough to make it on this chart. "How Do I Live" spent 34 weeks in the top 10 and charted for 69 weeks total. No other song accomplished both those feats. The rating system is explained in the description.
