  • I just travelled all over Ireland. I dont need this flight ticket anymore.

  • that tinwhistle just beautiful

  • Fuck it, they're so badass.

  • And they sound better when they have a "decent" sound system. The one here sounds like they are playing through speakers that are made of tin.

  • what kind of whistle is he using?

  • @TheEldestScroll

Susato. You can get one for around $40-$50. You might need to practice for a while if you want to be as good as Kevin Crawford.

  • @homebrewradio haha yeah. to play is easy, but mastering it is a different story.

  • Go Scotland

  • @1976vern They're Irish

  • In some way that I can't explain, this music makes me feel unimaginably good :)

  • @14blackroses it's like as long as the music plays, nothing else matters.

  • favourite tune of all time :)

  • i REAALLY REALLY NEED TO LEARN THIS! does anyone know where i could get the sheet music online ? everywhere i search i only get songs like "good morning to your nightcap" which is far from the same song :( HELP

  • @funfunmagicman first tune they call 'the wedding reel', if that helps. They have a tune book out with the sheet music, too.

  • @funfunmagicman The set of tunes are called 'the wedding reel' 'the morning nightcap' and te malbay shuffle' and you can find all the music for it at thesessionDOTorg (it won't let me post the web address) Hope it helps.

  • @MadForTrad66 thanks very much , did eventually find them on that website. its great!

  • the best

  • Ar fheabhas ar fad. Ór gan smál!!

  • Is amhrán álainn é...is aoibhinn liom an banna seo

  • Great group. Excellent video. Nice to see an intelligent exchange on YouTube now and then. Bravo.

  • You guys are amazing!!!!!!

  • hai guys am trying to play the guitar version of this for the first part the chords goes like

    D--Em(G)---D--A

can you tell me whats the chords when the song changes in the middle

  • heard this on xm 15 tonight and had to find it when I got home. Love it great job guys!!!

  • I think that's a susato C whistle. I have a Susato D, and that's noticably longer than mine. I think it's a C.

  • @theherpman94 Whatever kind of whistle it is - the last note is definitely a G - how do I know? I play (or rather, am learning) uilleann pipes and the note Cillian is playin at the end is a G :)

Dunno if that helps you figure out what key the whistle is in or not *shrugs*

  • @barrry9 well, I don't know. it wouldn't end on a G for most peices of music in C. I honestly have no idea!

  • Great stuff

  • Ya gotta just love these guys. Lug Lamafada himself would be very proud...if he was real.

  • W-O-W O_O i love it!

  • can a humble tinwhistler like me, find this song's tabs anywhere on internet xD????

  • tabs? unlikely. you can get the sheet music however, just enter the titles plus the keyword thesession in google and first hit will be a site with the sheet music. but the sheet music will most certainly not match exactly, so if you really want to play it like kevin, get an audio tool, slow the track down to half speed and play what you're hearing. names are Wedding reel, Morning nightcap and Malbay shuffle.

  • see them on thursday night 14th of may 09 they where great , amasing love them . this has to be my favourite set of tunes

  • It sounds just gorgeous!

  • Great! :)

  • Amazing!!!! Is it a Susato Kevin´s playing??? Just love tin whistles....I wish I could play like this!!!

    Thanks for posting!

  • Yes, a Susato. He had one of his whistles from John SIndt stolen while they were on tour in Asia and he's starting using the Susatos while on the road (and sometimes on recordings as well.)

  • It's a Susato Kildare "C"

  • @andrenm2 Wrong. It's a D.

  • Well, I am with a C whistle right here, playing along with this song, and it "fit"...I really, really, respecfully, think it's a Susato Kildare C

  • It fits, merely because you are transposing the tune from the key of D to C, just by playing the exact same tune on a different pitch whistle.

The tune was played in the key of D. I won't say I'm sure it is, I say it really is. Going by the starting note of the last reel in the set, it is.

Or, your whistle is much sharper than normal so its closer to D, or you think your whistle is a C but is actually a D.

  • I think I see what the problem is...this song modulates in the middle of it...

It starts in D major (so it is, that the sequence of chords in the verse is "D - Em - Bm - A")...

But when the tin whistle plays, the song modulates...The tin whistle uses the scale of Dm (pentathonic) in this song, so is a million times easyer to play using a tin whistle in "C"...I have a tin whistle, a keyboard next to me, an acoustic guitar, and all I played matches the note he is doing in the tin whistle...

  • And just to finish, in the last image of this vídeo, he is holding the two top holes in the tin whistle, right? (4:04)...I checked on my keyboard and acoustic guitar...That note is a G...As you know, if you grab a "C" tin whistle, and press the top two holes, it is going to give you a G...However, if you use a "D" tin whistle, that note is going to be a "A", but that note isn't an "A"...You can double check!

  • I double checked. He is fingering 3 holes, not 2.

Next, thesession org lists Malbay Shuffle (the last tune) as G major.

  • But for now, I guess I should apologise for one thing: when I started this debate I fear I might have been a little rude. Sorry for that.

  • Welll, I ask for sorry too...

But that was kind of fun...

  • No problem.
