the low head, long loose reins, and the "lazy" look is what a WESTERN PLEASURE horse is trained to look like! go up to the top and search westernpleasure360 and click the first video and that will show you what western pleasure should look like and how natural the horse is moving!
Hmm, my horses lope/canter w/e isn't like that, much smoother and less limpy looking :p All the horses i've ever rode have been smoother actually. western is the only style I've ever rode and I haven't seen a horse look like that before :p
woow thats one lazyy horse. look at the way he walked along the rail! and i hate how a lope looks. :-/ ...it looks like a injured trot, like the horse is lame or something, but he's really loping...i like a real canter better. :-/
I dont like western cantering or loping whatever, i dont think it looks nice. the reins look about a mile long and the horse could bolt and the ride wouldnt have enough control. it looks like its dragging along to..
i hate western riding... ugh its so uncomfortable and looks sloppy. i have nothing against western horses or riders im just saying it seems so weird and awkward...
@4everhorselover2202 Ok, I respect that. You probably do know more than me, I mainly ride English, only occasionally western. but the horse's head is even with its withers. Isn't that correct?
I ride english style so to me this looks uncomfortable and odd, but it also looks disaplined and well controlled, i'll have to try western some day it looks interesting
thankyou its helpfull looking at other people i horse ride and i struggle on canter...... but i hold the styrups in both hands! that must be quite hard
This a a collected canter, no it is not natural, but it is taught and does not hurt the horse...technically a lope aka gallop is a fast gate...so this is technically called a "collected canter" taught for western pleasure or trail, go to AQHA western pleasure videos and you will see it there as well..
People, like RatsRule said, it's a western pleasure lope. It isn't painful for the horse, it isn't gross looking, it's just a different type of canter from the other canter that you guys have seen. It isn't a bad canter at all, it's pretty good, actually. I loved the video, it was very nice.
yeah...it does..it looks like he's partially limp, or hoppingdue to pain, or---well, it just doesn't look right. but that is an awfully slow canter, I must say. its almost slower than the trotting video!!
@wabby1123 Well yes and no, both are really similar but if you watch a horse canter and a horse lope then you'll notice the difference. Sorry that I seem so nit picky

Whats up with that horse? thats the most awful canter I've ever seen, he looks like he's in pain, its a cross between a trot and a hop.
gordonguineapig 2 years ago
Try looking up Western Pleasure classes. They all look like this (and worse), and they win looking like that.
It is just a lope.
RatsRule 2 years ago
Thats a lope. In western terms, that's what he's supposed to be doing.
EnglishMuffins12 2 years ago 3
thats not like any cantering i've ever seen.. it looks like a painful trot
