I doubt very seriously if very many people here have ever in their lives felt and known the feeling that this song truly stirs. Its not just a relationship ditty. Its a blood, sweat , body & soul thing. And when you have it that bad for somebody.......when you will do whatever it takes to be with that one person....ANYthing....when you love that person that much...then you will know that feeling and that meaning. I am serious as a fucking heart-attack. PUN INTENDED (heart-attack)
Stripped down or Acoustic This is Thrills and Chills and pure love spoken to the soul.
I think there are not enough hours in the night, and maybe morning would come too soon. It is kind of like the guy who is praying for an abundance of rain in Napa Valley so the grapes produce a bumper crop and that the vino is flowing freely to keep his girlfriend uninhibited
Because the Night is made for Lovers, Let there be More Night.
Let's get something simple straight: An electric piano and a singer doesn't constitute "acoustic." "Acoustic" isn't when you strip away drums, bass, whatever. It's when a song is played on acoustic instruments, not electric ones. If he played this on an acoustic piano it would be acoustic. I don't want the illiteracy displayed here about one of the most basic distinctions between types of instruments to spread, so I comment. Don't get angry, educate yourself. Stripped down is a proper label here
@jackstpaul good on you dude, way to make a point, and educate, without being harsh, rude, obnoxious, overly emotional, profane, etc....like so many people seem to be when commenting on youtube.
No one is more skilled at turning rock songs into acoustic masterpieces , and vice-versa. Look at what he did with Reason to Believe on the recently completed, Working on a Dream tour, - A Nebraska song as hard rock.
The version of For You, a mid-tempo rocker, played at Hammersmith is just stunning. Perhaps the best example is Incident on 57th Street, a work of genius that is equally good in all it's many incarnations.
However, IMO, Because the Night doesn't work nearly as well slowed down.
It's something how no matter what song it is, no matter who wrote it, or how old it is, he can still play it the best!!!!!! He is the only boss of music
This song is 100% Bruce's. Patti Smith never "cowrote it". Bruce had the whole song planned with a Latin theme instead of the A minor F G progression we know today. Bruce gave the song to Patti and she added the new music.
@Arseface87 That is not correct. Bruce had a draft going that he didn't like. Patti was recording next door. They collaborated, a new thing emerged. They will often perform it with different lyrics and since they both wrote it that is there perogative. Bruce says Patti co-wrote the song, so why would anyone else say anything different? That is why it is credited that way on the Springsteen album the song first appeared on - the Live/1975–85 boxset, where Smith was listed as co-writer.

also, this was in August 2005 (not July 2006)... last night of the D&D Tour in Vancouver: the only time it was played.

It works without guitars also. Stripped down or accoustic, I leave that to the scientiests, like a million others also. Let's just love the song!
