  • This treatment is not FDA approved. There are no steroid suspensions that are. One commonly used steroid is called Depo-Medrol. It is also not approved by the FDA for this use due to the large number of severe adverse events reported to the FDA's Med-Watch division. Your "consent" form may not include these facts. Depo Medrol steroids are "not recommended" by the drug maker either, Pharmacia/Upjohn-Pfizer because the risks out weigh the benefits. Consider yourself WARNED!

  • @EndDepoNowCampaign It's FDA approved, I had it done and it worked wonders! Many of my co workers had it done as well. Thank goodness for this. No more pain killers YUK!

  • @thedoorsforever I'm glad that you believe it has helped you, but ESI's are NOT FDA approved.... and it says so right on the Data Sheet for the Drug.

  • I wish I had not watched! I'm having one in eight hours!! I've had herniated and degenerative disks for years, so have tried alot of procedures. With an esi my first time, I did not know better and the dr. did not share another option. Like sedation!! It was terribly painful and if I saw him today, I would tell him off. For tomorrow , in a hospital,, with twighlight sleep. It's the only way. Don't agree to these without sedation!!

  • @samantha9101 Wow, you really had a bad doctor. I am so sorry it cause you so much pain, shame on that doctor. I hope you told him off good! My doctor said that I had to be sedated. Every doctor that does this kind of procedure has to by law. That's what he told me. Let me know how your doing. I really feel for you, what you had to go through. You should not have been able to feel anything

  • @bigb198806 Why in the world would your doctor not sedate you? He/she is sick!

  • @thedoorsforever You must not understand what is going on here. You have to be sedated, unless you love pain

  • @bigb198806 you have to be sedated for this, or it would hurt like all get out! I had it, didn't hurt at all. Didn't help though. So now I am having something else done. I have to look it up. I had the doc. write it down for me, but it lookslike chicken scratch! Everyone is different, let me know how your doing

    Janet

  • O god.... im having this done in 12 hours! Herniated disks is a bitch....

  • @Breal189 So is having degerated dick diease( That I will have the rest of my life. The shots didn't work, so now he wants to try something else. I feel like one of those poor rats they test on:(. Let me know how your doing ok?

    Janet

  • Is anyone being treated for degenerative disk diesease? That's why I am having the shots. Just wondering if anyone else has had them and if they helped, and for how long. I know everyone is different, the doctor told me it's a wait and see. I would really like to hear from others.

    Thanks, for posting

  • (3/3 comment, 2/3 below...)

Or should I avoid injections, deal with pain(like I have, which sucks) & just work on back with home exercises?

  • (1st half of comment below)...I'm back to how I felt before injections.... Is this what it boils down to? Or will my back continue to get worse no matter what? Will I feel more/severe pain once steroids wear off? If so, if I keep doing home exercises, will this help reduce the pain? Maybe strengthening my muscles to reduce pain? I'm sorry for long comment,I'm just really curious...any tips out there I can take in, too live/deal with herniated disc? Or should I avoid injections, deal with pain(l

  • I'm 24 years old, been living with herniated L4,L5,S1 disc past two years, I have pain in left testical, lower back pain & sometimes left knee "falls asleep" fast when "going #2".

My 1st schedule lumbar epidermal is in 3 weeks, I was told a herniated disc never heals, I just finish 6wks of PT. I was wondering is this what I should expect for rest of my life? I'm basically coming to the conclusion that the steroids will take pain away for so long, & once it wears off...I'm back to how I felt bef

  • Just had mine done today. Another in 2 weeks. It works great. The last time I had this done was about 7 years ago.

  • This video is very helpful!

  • What are the side effects? Do you really gain a lot of weight?

  • Maybe I'm deaf as well, but to me, the audio on this is absolutely terrible. I can't hear a word of it clearly - I have to put my lap top up to my ear to even hear it which sucks b/c it looks informative :(

  • I just got my first shot and it was painful, but tolerable. They give you in between time to catch your breath. I would like to add that they could not inject me with the steroid due to the pain in their first attempt. The only eject a pea size drop of dye and felt the worse pain ever and my blood pressure sky rocketed. The doctors said my nerves were so tight and that they had to go to a lower disc. It was a lot less painful but you will still feel it. Think of a cramp x2 and that is the pain

  • @luvkhmai Why the H&ll didn't they give you a local? A good doctor would never give you the shots without sedating you first. I would get another doctor.

  • I just got home from my 4th injection. My first round of 2 injections got me pain free for almost a year I had a C7/T1 laminectomy at 25 and lost all use of my right arm with the disk rupture 2 years ago. I have been in PT and have been taking pain meds when needed. The injections DO hurt, however if you can just get through the 1st day or 2, it is totally worth it. Not a fix-all but a welcome 2 days of pain for a year of relief. Experience's can be different but I'm happy it's available.

  • I had this done in may and found it totally awful my leg was all over the place. I could not walk before this but after i could but the pain is still awful i live with morphine all the time and other pain killers. I am going back in on tuesday the 21st June this time i am being sedated hopefully this time will be better i am so scared.

  • Got it done today.Got sedated and slept through it. Got ip as soon as it was done.very pleasant experience.

They could get the veins for iv first in my arms and had to poke thrice.that was he only pain

  • I had my first injections today L5 S1-left and right side. I was so nervous as they couldn't use sedation, the initial poke is like when you go to the dentist and they do the local numbing shot in your gums. Sharp sting for a few seconds. I think they did that twice on each side. The injection, felt like a pressure, and stinging sensation going down your nerve in your leg, that feels like they are tickling your nerve, a weird pain lasted a few seconds (20-30) tops. I am now walking pain free.

  • BUT I DO KNOW SOME DRS DO IT AWAKE WITH JUST NUMBING MEDS AND THERE ARE DRS THAT DO AND I THINK THEY ALL SHOULD DO IT IS VERY PAINFULL DOING ANYTHING TO YOUR BACK. MY DR PUTS ME TO SLEEP WITH THE MILK OF MAG THE STUFF M JACKSON PASST AWAYS ON. i HAVE BEEN HAVING THE ESI AND LASER TREATMENTS SINCE LAST OCT. THE LASER KILLS NERVES THAT FIRE OFF PAIN AND SHOULD WORK FOR A YEAR

  • Comment removed

  • I HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS DONE SINCE LAST OCT I HAVE THEM DONE EVERY MONTH IN FAC I HAVE ONE COMMING UP ON JUN 13TH 2011 I WHERE I GO EVERYONE THAT GETS THE ESI OR OTHER THINGS YOU GET PUT TO SLEEP WITH THAT STUFF THAT MJ PASSED AWAY FROM. THANK GOD CUS I WAS READING EVERYONE COMMENTS I COULD NOT DO IT MY BACK HURTS WAY TOO BAD EVERYDAY ANYWAY . THIS MONTH THEY ARE PUTTING IN WIRES ONTO MY SPINE TO SHOCK IT WE WILL C

  • Just had it yesterday and I can tell you this procedure really hurts. I was up all night in pain.

  • This Dr. is not telling the truth. this hurts like hell. i have had 5 injections and i will never have it done again. I will have back surgery again before this!!!!!!!

  • @btb3800 @btb3800 It's not that the doctor is lying, everyone is different. I had something like this done while I was awake 3 times, over 2 months in between. And I was awake each time. And yes, it hurt like hell. And to top it all off, the doctor I am seeing now, told me I never should have had that done. That's not where the problem is! Oh did that ever make me mad. So I am getting steriod injections done Tues. Oct. 4th, and have to be asleep

  • this Dr. is lying. this hurts alot.

  • @btb3800 They ALL say it doesn't hurt... and of course it doesn't hurt them! They haven't tried it!

  • @btb3800 doesn't huet one bit! You had a bad doctor, and he did it all wrong. If it really hurt, I would sue his ass! This does not hurt at all. Bad, bad doctor. You had to have had something different, likw I did the forst time. Now that hurt like hell, and my surgeon said I never needed that! Damn doctors!

  • Is the general story with theese injections that it only lasts a while and comes back! I'm gonna cry if that's what's ahead of me. Have a prolapsed disc and in bed the last two weeks taking everything they can give me for the pain and still can't sit or stand for more than 5 mins. Can your disc not heal while the injection is doing it's thing?

  • I go for my 2nd one tomorrow...the first one lasted about 5-6 months.

  • I just had this same thing done yesterday, actually two different ones.im no baby when it comes to pain but this guy is crazy when he says its not painful at all. this person has to be sedated because he isnt jumping at all,i couldnt control jumping. the worst part was the steroid solution going in,it shot pain down my left leg. anyway so far so good,i actually feel like i have a left leg again:-)not trying to scare anyone just telling my story.PS the pain was worth it,so far LOL

  • Just had one today and it was moderately painful. I had to have a second local to numb it. I didn't opt for the sedative as I will be having another procedure in a few days. Over all, nothing to really fear.

  • What? No sedation?

  • What the hell is the nurse standing folding her arms is supposed to be doing?

  • I'm 44 yrs and had my second injection today. First time I went for no sedation and it was moderately painful indeed. This time I opted for sedation and needed 13mg of the milky miracle. I still feel that more meds earlier would have helped. I was able to carry on a conversation whilst undergoing the procedure. I have severe polyneuropathy and Plantar fasciitis and Sciatica. Basically my work/life is a living hell. This is a band aid but a welcome one.

  • @efrench9 I am having this done next week, I have to be put under , lights out, so I won't feel a thing. Boy I sure hope this works, can't take the pain much longer and the pain pills make me sick. Good luck to everyone out there with back problems

  • Had one today! was absolutely freaking out . Some people advised to ask to be sedated with propofol. It worked great. Didn't feel a thing, apart the moment when doctor was inserting the steroid itself - 2 seconds were agony. But it is just 2 seconds! IT is worth it! looking forward to the life without pain!

  • Just had a lumbar one done with two injections and was super easy nothing to be afraid of. Just make sure you choose the sedation option they put you out just before the injection and wake you up right after. Don't remember a thing and felt instantly better. Just a little soreness around injection site as in after a vaccine in your arm. I am on day 3 and back is 90% back to normal. No need to sweat this procedure I promise. Thks

  • @msholmes3580 I was told NO Sedation, you have to be awake to tell them if they are hurting you or not. If you are OUT you wont be able to tell them if there close to a nerve, and if thats the case... theyll slice RIGHT threw it.

  • I'm 21 years old, and I just received my first epidural shot (it was my first pseudo-surgery, first anasthesia experience, etc.). I can't report much on the pain levels yet, but the process was not painful at all. Any more questions, message me. I can provide a perspective for those who are young/who haven't gotten something like this before...

  • i had a cervical epidural, and it didnt do shit for mine, im actually gonna be having a disc replaced after the 1st of the year, each instance if different, but for me the injection did nothing, and this guy took way to long, when mine was done, start to finish was about 3 minutes, the prep, and everything else took about 30 mins. and the dr. had to go between my shoulder blades, and feed a catheter up my spinal canal into the cervical region.

  • Has anyone seen any improvement on weakness caused by your disk? I am having alot of problems with my foot and am having this done next week after spending 6 weeks in a back brace...I know it is supposed to help with the pain but I'm worried it won't help the weakness..

  • @meaglz9013 If you have LESS pain then you will be able to regain strength. Because you WONT be in too much pain to move that specific body part, i.e your back. I have L5 S1 herniation on the Sciatic nerve in my Right leg and it has become noticibly weaker cause i do WHATEVER I can to NOT walk on it, use it... ect... Just natural to weaken. Understand?

  • I'm having this done in August twice. I'm kinda scared. Injections in L2-3, L3-4, L4-5, L5-S1. Is that alot?

  • @alexlilsnshn That seems like a lot of injections at one time,i always had them done 2 at atime.Your going to be very sore if they do all these at once.I have had 2 back operations with screws and rods implanted,so any relief is welcome.

  • @jonz47 Wow, thanks for the info. I honestly don't want to do this because I think it will do more damage than anything. But unfortunately I have no choice, it was ordered by my workmans comp dr. I hope you are doing well with your back. :)

  • Everyone is different. I'm a 35 yr old male and this was my second time doing this, and this didn't work on me. So now I'm having a mricodiscetomy done tomorrow.

  • If you are anxious about having this done ask for the partial sedation. You won't even remember anything. I have gotten signifigant pain relief from this and I would recommend this for anyone suffering from severe sciatica and back pain. This procedure is well worth it!

  • I've had this done twice and the second one was just a few hours ago. I have degenerative disc disease of L4 & L5. I've had a bulged disc and even though this injection was 10 minutes of pain, I'd do it a million times to keep from ever having the bulged/herniated disc again. As I type, the pressure and pain from the injection is enough to make me nauseous but if it works like it did before, the pain will go away in a couple days and I'll hopefully be pain free for a couple months.

  • Just had one done. was terrified but it wasn't as bad but there was some pain and i don't have a fear of needles or anything but when he was going into the bone to numb it, i felt that and also when he injected the 2 areas where the pain was..i nearly jumped off the table. But i had a great dr thank god.

  • I am having this done tomorrow and am having second thoughts. Not so much about the needles and all but laying on my stomach and not being able to breath. I never lay that way. I guess I shouldnt of watched this....ugh :(

  • i just had a 2nd injection this past friday and i was shocked when the dr said all set it was not bad at all just a little pressure when they injected the steroid but it was only for 3 to 5 seconds good luck hope it helps you with your problem

  • i just had this done 3 hours ago the needle to numb didn't hurt at all the only pain i had is when the dr injected the medicine it felt like my leg was on fire but it was only for 5 seconds. the needle going in didn't hurt it felt like a lot of pressure in my stomach like i wanted to puke but after it is over and i know what to expect i would prob do it again if i have to

  • why is he smiring melted poop shit all over that guys ass at 0:30

  • Not a pleasant experience it's still weird haveing a needle jammed into your spine!!!

  • This makes it look so easy. While I was on my stomach for 45 minutes having two shots administered, I experienced a few stabs of burning pain, and the doctor warned me about them ahead of time. Once, there was a surprise stabbing pain that almost sent me through the roof. Otherwise, it was a lovely experience I hope works well on a bulging disk.

  • @dly97 seriously dude. my pain went away for like 2 weeks! its incredible how it works. i also had mine xray guided it looked scary but no pain thanx to the anesthesia.

  • Comment removed

  • Lol i read my own comments i made before i got this injection...i was so scared it was my first time, never even had an IV before!! lol well now its been a week and it has helped me a lot no pain! and it wasent painful whatsoever i was put to sleep(for the 1st time) woke up and it was done i feel so good. This message is to first timers if you see this i hope its helpful i wish i couldeve read something like this before i had this procedure. TC

  • @daisylovesmoy ... thanks Daisy, I'm having this done on the 29th of March, I was a little worried, but after seeing this video, and reading comments, especially yours, I'm much more relieved...! Thanks. :-)

  • @glitter74 yea its not as you may think, im getting another one next month and im not even scared anymore as i was the first time. you really wont feel anything no worries.

  • Epidural steroid injections (ESIs) are a frequently used treatment for chronic pain syndromes. A common characteristic among the syndromes treated with ESIs is a pain described as radicular pain .

  • i HAD 15 INJECTIONS..I AM IN A TERRIBLE STATE I HAVE CHUSHINGS AND NOW ADREALEN INSUFINCECY

  • hello people...im 21 and have a 6mm disk just got my mri 5 months ago im getting this injection next week..any who had this want to help me out and let me know if its painful? pls thank u

  • @daisylovesmoy : btw, it wasnt tat painful afterall ull be administered with LA! take care!

  • Ouchy

  • is he injecting steroids to the baby?? heheh f

  • Shit!! I may have to have this done!! Even though I took oral steroids, which DIDN'T help!

  • that was really painful! Is the procedure above same with nerve root block coz' im gonna go for it next week! had a lumbar disc herniation in L5S1 and im only 23!!

  • @enriq747 You're not alone - I'm 27 and I have 2 herniated discs!

  • @enriq747 hey im 21 and have a 6mm disk in l4l5 im with u bro this is hell...

  • @daisylovesmoy : good grieve aren't v a lil young for tis?? niway, i went thru it already and am feeling much better now!!

  • @enriq747 so it helped you? i hope it helps me i get it tomorrow and im a lil scared it might be painful, its the first time i get something like this.

  • it does but must not overexert urself after that procedure! once ur' admistered wit LA, u dun havta be afraid of the pain!

  • OUCH!

  • I had a nasty growth removed from my lung 4 days ago and an epidural was given to me prior to putting me out for the op. On woking up after the op, I itched and scratched my whole face and body like a maniac. I also found they had inserted a catheter into my penis to drain my bladder. The itching went on for 3 days. I am still recovering in hospital 5 days later while attached to a chest drainage unit. Now how's that for a fun week! Oh I forgot to mention, I'm on holiday. lol.

  • Im wishing you a speedy recovery...God Bless.

  • That experience was so uncomfortable 3 months ago that I really don't remember making that comment back then. But not only have I fully recovered, but I am a changed man now. I play fast action table tennis 2 hours every day with a pro and take life and work a little more easier now. I thank you for your kind wishes and pray that God grants you good health too.

  • im 16 and i have to get it done for L4 and L5 is it worth it ?

  • @polinatheshit

after a few days it's worth it. I have 2 protruding discs. C6 and C7. Actually, a little bit of C5 as well. I had this done 3 times. Now I'm getting Trigger Point Injections done for the same area

  • I am having this procedure done tomorrow. Did you feel pain and what has been ur outcome?

  • @iwutube I have had it done 4 times/ It works for awhile .

  • @polinatheshit they are, but you may have to go several times a year. I am having these done in my neck. are you having pain in your legs? if so, have a lumbar surgery. I had one and I still have pain from time to time. but NOTHING close to what it was.

  • I would not recommend lumbar surgery unless you have no other choice. I had it done on l4,l5,S1 by a Laser Spine Surgery called Plasma disc deteriation. Horrible outcome. Just horrible.

  • @polinatheshit i am 13 and have to get this too. this is sorta randomm,, but did u get this done already?

  • @polinatheshit: did you ever get it? it says your post was one year ago haha, i was 16 when i got 3 of them and they didnt do shit

  • I've had back surgery and six of these injections and my back is still jacked up. Neither one helped. I've seen them help other people though, so you never know.

  • why he use steriods?

  • to get buff duhhh

  • @JCtherocks Its NOT to "get buff" you IDIOT!! Its for people suffering with SEVERE pain radiating in there lower back & down 1 or both legs. I have L5-S1 Disc Herniation and I had this procedure 3 tims with the last one being 3 days ago and im still waiting for it to reduce the swelling. But the 1st one worked and the 2nd didnt. so its all about trying it. it couldnt hurt.

  • @YellowEvo8Girl sheesh somebody is grumpy and doesnt have sense have humor =P

  • and this video TOTALLY helped me before i had them done to understand what was going to be done to me.. to visualize it helps sooooooooo much. thanks to whoever posted this. it's by far the best one.

  • i'm 22 i have a L5-S1 central disk herniation and first had a right sided injection. it made my pain worse for about 3 days then completely went away for about 2 days. 2 weeks later i had an injection done on my left and right side at the same time. once again, pain increased for about 2-3 days and i felt better for only a few days. now i'm getting right and left sided injections again. i don't really think they're doing much but i sorta have to before surgery. it HURRRTS! haha

  • hey man I sorta have the same problem and I am 23. I did the injection 2 weeks ago and same thing happened to me , worsen my pain and got better for maybe, 3-4 days. now my pain is back and numbness back to my leg. :S i dont think i am doing this again. not worth it in my opinion.

So you decided to do surgery ?? I heard this should be the last resort if anything. What made you decide on this ?

  • @chrisevilmonkey

I need surgery but I'm doing anything and everything I can to avoid it. I've had 3 cortisone injections and now I'm doing trigger point injections. If and when I do decide to have surgery it would have to be a disc replacement in my C6 and C7

  • does it really hurt? Im going in on Thursday for my first epidural... for my herniated disks L5 S1... ive had the injury for 6 years and re-agrivated it the past couple weeks i wake up in brutal pain every morning so my Dr wants me to try this

  • You have a local, then the injection. All you really feel is pressure. It's certainly not comfortable, but isn't what I would call painful. It only takes about 30-60 seconds from the local to the injection is complete.

  • Comment removed

  • So how was it? I just had one done in my neck. Im deathly afraid of needles, but once they gave me some sedation via an I.V. I was feelin pretty good, joking with the doc and nurse. I felt the local go in and that was it, before I knew it he was done, I maybe felt some pressure, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Doc said it would take a few days for it to take.

  • Comment removed

  • This really really really hurts, well the 2 times I had it done anyways, it did. The first time worked, the second time didnt, and tomorrow I am going in for the 3rd. Atleast now I know what it looks like while they are doing it, can only feel the needle poking around over and over again. I cant say for sure whether or not it is worth it, as I did have one that did not work at all, but hopefully soon I can say this 3rd one did =)

  • thanks. so you are saying that the injection might or might not work ? and how long do you wait until your 2nd one ?

did the pain come back after the 1st one ? how long did it take for the pain to come back after the injection ?

    take care

  • haha it didnt hurt that much , but i dont think its really worth it , afterall the shit they shoot in is no good for ur body

  • and also , I ve been a competitive swimmer and basketball player before my injury. Do you guys think I can go back to the level I was after getting the injection done ? and is weight lifting possible ?

Your replies would be much appreciated.

  • i am scheduled to do the injection on the 9/9/09

I am a 23 year old student, i hurt my back while performing a dead lift 3 months ago. since then , my back and left leg has been hurting and i can barely do the stuff i normally do. I am really concern about my health and well being.

has anyone done this recently that are around my age group , please give me some feedback

  • I have had 3 done. When I had them done I have them done under twilight anestheia so I can't feel a thing. I have a disc bulge at the L4-L5.

The first one helped a little, the 2nd I felt great. Went back to work and pain came right back. Went and got third and pain is still there so I'm going for a 4th one tomorrow.

After you have it done follow all the stuff they tell you liek take it easy and stuff. You will or at least I was really sore for a few days.

  • (continued)

Thank you for posting this informative video. I now know what to expect with my upcoming appointment. This has eased my curiosity and anxiety.

  • Dr. Williams,

Vicodin & the Chiropractor have done nothing for my sever back pain. I am scheduled to receive the injection 9/1/09. All 12 of my discs are herniated and buldging with degeneration and something with the lower lumbar L4 - L5, is this possible?

I fell down the steps 2 years ago and believe that may have caused this trauma. Other than 3 days of mild back pain, my back was fine after the fall.

  • I have had 3 of these last summer and going for another this tuesday. I hate them the Dr I had last time was not gentle at all. It is really important to follow their directions and take it easy for a few days. I didnt my first time and I suffered because of it. I have herniated discs in lower lumbar area would much rather prefer these than back surgery although thats coming soon too. good luck all!!!

  • I had an excruciating back pain for quite sometimes now and it is almost impossible to move without shedding tears; thank god i had it done last Friday, it was really, really WORTH IT, eventhough it not meant to cure, but at least i got my old self back _minus the high heels of course!!!

  • Comment removed

  • well all i know if when ever i decide that its time for a baby. this doctor is flying herer and giving me my epidural!! lol

  • I had this done for the first time 7/7/09. I have HUGE anxiety issues--but have suffered back pain for over 10 years and was desperate. I wouldn't want to have it done everyday-- but it wasn't that bad. The actual injection kinda feels like a mild funny-bone hit, and the surgeon said that if it was too much he would stop the delivery and give me a rest. It was over very quickly. There is no guarantee, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat in lieu of surgery. Wish me luck.

  • oh hell naw.... dat really looks like it hurts.... i'll pass...

  • thats wot im sayin!!

  • i had my 3rd one of these done today, its painful, but still fairly tolerable, mine was done into the base of my neck, all i can say is quite possible the strangest sensation ive ever felt

  • this did not work for me, my doctor was an asshole from the Uof M Back and Pain clinic. He told me that there is no pain with a herniated disc!!! There is so much pain!!! the procedure itself does not hurt and is over before you know it, the next day it does hurt alot. i had no pain for 3 weeks after, now the doc wants to do another injection!! Not going to happen, getting a second opinion on course of treatment on monday. NEVER GO TO THE U OF M BACK CLINIC IN ANN ARBOR MICHIGAN!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My lower back had been giving me fits for the past 9 months. I The doctor explained it to me. It's of vital importance that you tell the doctor during you interview precisely where the discomfort and anomalies are so that he can determine where in your spine the trouble area actually is. BE SPECIFIC!

Believe me panic is not necessary. You'll feel nothing at all. I asked when they would do it and they said "it all over." I had no idea! It's easy, painless and well worth it!

  • Well, im having this done in 5 days and most of these comments havent helped my anxiety. Im quite a laid back person but all ive heard is it is the most painful thing. However, ive had sciatica for 9 months and nothing can be more painful than trying to get out of bed for 5 hours. I have a high pain threshold and sciatica has been excruitiating and i haveno other option apart from surgery!

  • Its not painful! I had it done yesterday and would have it done again. I was shitting myself before I had it done (and I have been thru childbirth without drugs) however, it was totally fine! Its great to be able to sit down without a pain shooting down my leg :-)

  • @GrantKoston You and I are in the same boat. Nothing I've done has helped until now - surgery is the only thing left to do

  • Oh SURE is SCARY... Cool... but, DANGEROUS. and The effect Is quite awesome but it's still DANGEROUS wkwkwkwkwkwk.....!!!!

  • Whats this used for back pain?

  • I just had this done about 2 hours ago. It was a piece of cake. I only felt pressure and maybe a slight burn during the lidocaine injection. I can't believe some of these comments. The risks are very minimal. You can choke to death eating food... so are you not going to eat food anymore? I think I will take my chances and not starve to death. If anyone watches this bc you are about to have this done, don't worry. It was pretty simple and only looks bad. Good luck!

  • i had mine done last month it hurt but not that much, weak people might hurt more, so far pain did decrease but i still feel it in my lower back a bit might need a 2nd one

they are expensive as hell though !!!!! $8000 for the whole thing

lucky for me i have insurance and will only pay $650

  • Epidurals don't hurt, only if they botched it. And I think you are a bit erroneous with the cost here. The doctors can only bill the insurance company about 150 bucks for the shot, and perhaps 600 max for use of the facility/monitoring equipment. where did you get the 8,000 dollar amount?????????

Plus, weak people?? People are all different, and their nerves may be more impinged than yours. You shouldn't judge people's tolerance to pain so harshly.

  • Ive gotten this done for my herinated discs 3 times now, you won't feel a thing. It helps A LOT too.

  • I'm borrowing my boyfriend's username because I absolutely MUST comment on this shit.

I had this (or a similar) procedure to treat my bladder pain caused by interstitial cystitis. It was unbelievably painful. I screamed and cried through the whole thing. I have still never gotten any relief. The experience was dreadful and I will NEVER do it again and I will not be recommending it to anyone. It felt like the doctor was pounding a steak knife into me with a hammer. :(

  • If it hurt, then you must have had a bad practitioner. It can be uncomfortable, but shouldn't be excruciating. Maybe you were highly anxious and would have benefited from a sedative.

  • holy shit, that looks insanely painful...but you know the pain relievers work real well, apparantly people are moaning and screaming

  • Ive had five of these injections. I was told that you should NOT get more than 3-4 per year. I have experienced about a 90% relief from pain. I have two ruptured discs in my lower back (L-4 and L-5). They usually give me severe sciatica and severe lower back pain. These shots have eliminated the need for surgery (so far). The only down side is (for me) they only last about 3 months. So, for about a month I deal with the onset of returning back pain. I'll take that over the alternative though.

  • too bad we cant see the flouro screen.

I have strong doubts this was in the epidural space.

1.where is the loss of resistance syringehe ?

2.the 3.5 inch spinal needle looks awfully shallow

    3. the pressure needed to inject your contrast looks terribly high.

    4. how much steroid is injected anyway? also looks like too much resistance . they work well when done at the right time in the right place. Looks like an IM injection of steroid which might help the patient nonetheless- but not ideal

  • I got that done yesterday.. I freaked out screaming like hell when the medicine spread (like acid) all over the nerves in my leg.. extremely painful. I wanted to run away from there. Its only 24 hrs now and my leg is still paining. I'm asked to come for two more shots :(( I'm so scared.

  • i almost had 2 get this 2day!!!!!

  • these shots works very well. i've had five done and going for my sixth one next week. i use to be scared but not anymore. actually i look forward to them to relieve the pain. i rather have the shot then the surgery.

  • OMG these are a life saver! I've had over 6 injections for a pinched nerve in my left leg/hip caused from a ruptured disc. They numb my leg and hip for about 2 to 3 months at a time. It makes life so much more bearable! Thank the Lord for these!!!

  • What is he doing to him?

  • making love...what you think

  • -_-...I mean whats the point of this injection

  • I'm 42 and had a terrible horse accident 5 years ago. I've had 3 epidurals done over the last year. I'd finally given in and accepted the idea of trying an epidural. This was after trying alternative treatments for 4 years; but when I began to fuse, I just couldn't take the pain any more. My Dr. says I can have epidurals every 4 months due to the severity of my disc disease and osteoarthritis. The injection works like a miracle and have given me more of my life back than any other treatment!

  • So, what types of steroids are safe? Any websites for more info on this?

  • Depo-medrol is a steroid called methyle-prednisolone.

it is intersting that the doctor her used spinal needle -rather than epidural needle which is commonly used for this purpose.>>

  • What happened to her?!?

  • Really?!? I'm supposed to get one soon...what was her situation?

  • the side affects are swelling in the area of the injection and i've been hearing this alot high blood pressure???

  • Thank you for making your video available on YouTube. As a patient of many epidural steriod injections, as well as 7 spinal surgeries, I appreciated seeing the physician's view of this procedure. Having had many of these procedures, I understand that normally they are very comfortable. However, depending upon the patient, the physician, the condition of the patient, scar tissue, fusions, etc. present, comfort and/or discomfort can vary. Thank you for allowing a patient education. D. Schroer

  • Thanks for the video.. Can you do a cervical one next? I had that done today and wanted to see what I was missing since they had my eyes burried for the whole thing.

  • Doctor... I'm sorry but that is Depo-Medrol you are using. You are a liar.

  • The patient is wide awake. No anesthesia was needed. Depomedrol was NOT used. Please limit your comments to those which you KNOW are true. The video is for educational purposes (not marketing). Patients sign an informed consent. Every negative comment listed is UNRELATED to the procedure being performed in this patient or an example of an extremely rare event.

  • Wow, I feel so much better knowing that my doctor might have gotten his technical skills education from YouTube. Just so you are more informed of how extremely common these negative comments are. I am spreading the word about your video. Maybe if you would open your heart and take these comments seriously, you might be more apt to using a fluoroscope next time you stick a needle near your patients spinal column.

  • Did your consent say:

Complications related to intraspinal steroids injections are due to execution of the block and side effects of drugs. Complications associated with intrathecal steroids are more frequent and severe than epidural injections and include: adhesive arachnoiditis, aseptic meningitis, cauda equina syndrome. Steroidal toxicity seems to be related to the polyethylenic glycole vehicle.

  • continued ... Anyway, slow release formulations contain less concentrated polyethylenic glycole. The epidural administration, a correct dilution of steroid with local anesthetics solution and/or saline solution, and a limited number of injections (no more than three) allows a significant reduction of steroid neurotoxicity.

  • I should have clarified that you should have viewed the fluoroscope during the needle placement. Shown the visual of the fluoroscope monitor. Too often nerves are damaged during the placement of the needle. 10 minute procedures have had a life long lasting effect.

  • What medication was used? Depomedrol is the only med used for this that I know of..I have Arachnoiditis from this same kind of injection. My life is over! No one should ever get one of these injections! I bet the Dr. didn't warn him about this complication.

  • If Depo-Medrol was not used, what steroid was? It sure has that DM Milky White(Poly-Gly)look on your video! Is the doctor not being honest with us? You may wish to check your PDR, you'll find that there are NO steroid injectates that are FDA approved for ESI use..NONE!

  • Furthermore...this patient must be under general anaesthetics, because there is no way they could perform this procedure without hearing screams from an awake person. I was screaming in pain and my husband was crying his eyes out watching what they were doing to me!!!

  • This dr is a jerk and a joke. Not ONCE does he mention that what he is actually doing is almost confirming that he is giving this patient adhesive arachnoiditis. And he's not even giving the patient the courtesy of telling him! If he would READ what it says on the label of the POISON he is injecting and listen to it, he would not be doing this. This video makes me sick!

  • any substance, even ones own blood, when in the spinal canal, can cause irreparable damage. Steroidal compounds and others are the worst offenders. I know, I suffer every day due to allowing one injection, one myselogram. It has been 26 years of continual loss.Cost, energy .Except pain, that went up!Stayed up. Please, please think before you allow anything in your spine, especially without a fluouroscope!! God Bless, sk

  • Chronic Adhesive Arachnoiditis is without a Doubt, One Of Mankinds Most Horrid, Incurable Life/Health/Financial Destroying Diseases On The Face Of This Earth!!! Printed Clearly on the insert inside the package of Depo Medrol WARNING!!! NOT TO BE AMINISTERED DIRECTLY INTO THE SPINAL EPIDURAL!!! SO TO ALL OUT THERE JUST SAY NO TO EPIDURAL STEROID INJECTIONS!!! MLK

  • This video makes me cringe!!! It takes me back when I had this done and after that had Discogram, Myelogram and spinal surgery. I want to thank the doctors involved for giving me Arachnoiditis...it sure is a life long "gift"!!! Thanks for making sure my spinal nerves from L2 and down are clumped together and are irreversably damaged!!! What would have been "nice" though was to have been PROPERLY informed BEFORE I had this crap injected into my spine and I had been given the choice to say NO!!!

  • Nothing but a sales tool. Epidurals are far safe or effective. The only help they can give, and only in a small percentage of cases, is easing pain for a max of 3 months. In exchange for no help in healing and limited chance of pain relief, you risk enormous and permanent neurological grief, which can last for the rest of your life. This video is pure propaganda.

  • I had to have both hips replaced at age 48 after an epidural, caused avascular necrosis, destroyed thr cartilage in my hips, this is being done "OFF LABEL" and not recommended by the drug co. for use in the spine and can also cause spinal meningitis, death, blindness, archnoditis. It's not worth the risk.

  • Mention the facts... that Depo-Medrol is NOT FDA approved for epidural administration... the the steroid maker warns against ESI use because of "Severe Medical Event" reports. There is NO mention of the risks in this video, why?
