kindly educate me as I and my boyfriend plan to go thru this process.. the travel.state.gov and in the USCIS website states that the first step in securing a K-! visa is for the US citizen sponsor to file a Petition for Alien fiancee by filing the I-129F form with the USCIS. nowhere does it say that he has to show proof of the existing relationship. does he still need to attach the proofs like pics, emails, etc in his Form 129-F
@keseytam you need to apply for a social security number then get married , go again to the office where you get you SSN and put your new name (married name) and file for a adjusment of status
oh and also we were planning to get married late feb 2011.. seeing its now late april i spose we wont make the date in time? this can take years ive heard. think i can get all this organised and move there within 9 months?
what exactly does the medical exam involve? im a pretty big guy and self concious about my body, do i need to like.. stand naked in front of the doctor or anything? have him do any finger prodding in areas i dont appreciate lol? do any physical tests? please explain whats involved in this process.
@rhoneyfi - hi, i would be so grateful if you can answer some of my questions.
1. myself and my husband are both students. he is graduating in june from uni. and i in 2011.- we don't have a lot of savings and he is a British citizen but they ask in the application for us to have an apartment in US. how can we do that if he is in the UK with no paper work as in S.S and no money.
RIght at the end you say that once you have the K1 Visa in your passport you have 1 year to enter the US. I believe it's actually 6 months... this might have changed since you applied, but just thought people should know.
Great video though... very useful to hear someone elses journey through to paperwork! :o)
I did everything what you guys did to file for K-1 visa Fience. My fience my new wife is here now staying in states for about 3 months now, working on are greencard application. Its easier if you have a attorney to do evrything what i did, but very expensive what i went through. ahahhhaaa... Good show guys!
I appreciate the videos but the website was not so good. I would not use words like doc for document or cert for certificate, this is not the intercity of Oakland. Also the shimmering picture of the lady and the noise, Let that loops once and then end it. Thanks.
Watched till the end and see you have stated that it's valid for 1 year to enter the states after receiving the K1. I don't know when this video was recorded but currently the foreign Fiance has up to 6 months to enter the country after receiving the K1. Then you must be married within 90 days. Just wanted to update for anyone watching this and going through the process (As I am!) :)
Sometimes adding too much proof of a bona fide relationship with the initial package can in fact be a bad thing. If it's overkill, it could be seen as fraud. Pictures, emails, phone logs, etc. are secondary evidence and are more needed at the interview. What they want to see with the I129F petition is proof that you have met in the past two years and that both you and the beneficiary are both legally allowed to marry.
Should I put just two pictures of the two of us for evidence, as well as, a letter of intent to marry (notarized) from each of us? I'm in the process of sending one right now. Any answer is greatly appreciated.
Just because someone added too much information does not make anything fraud. People think way too much sometimes. Another thing is that the immigration dept take a lifetime to process one stinking application.. that is embarrassment to this country. An american citizen applies for his finace to be shipped to America an it takes 10 generations to get the application approved.. i say its time for reform
Ours too 7 months...that's not a "lifetime" compared to the rest of my life..it's a drop in the bucket.
Things take time...they have to weed through the scammers and frauds and believe me...there are a lot.
I am thankful that I am here now and I would do it all over again.
Also, side note...adding too much information can be viewed as fraud by the Officer, especially if the information really isn't that believable. Not always, but sometimes depending on the situation.
There is a clear difference if information is believable or there is too much information. Too much information should never warrant a fraud suspicion, this is the most rediculous thing i've ever heard. It sounds like paranoia to me.
7 months to process is a very long time sister. Thats more than a 1/2 year.
It is wasted time for nothing. There is no difference between 7 months and 1 to 2 months. No difference at all. Besides now they say they take 13-15 months which is clearly unacceptable
Paranoia or not, there have been cases where an officer working a case suspected fraud simply because there was too much evidence for the amount of time a couple was in a relationship. Especially in cases where the ways of communication are limited, such a no internet access but then they have dozens upon dozens of emails. It's happened, believe me.
Also, for us, 7 months was not long at all. I didn't want to get into the U.S. to site see or get a better job....I moved here for the love of my life so I would have waited 10 times the amount that we did.
Granted, it should be shorter, but simply, it's not. So you have to deal with it. Be patient, stay organized and the time for you to be with your fiance, wife, husband, etc. will come.
I'm Canadian and so I was able to visit my fiance while we waited, others aren't as lucky.
max is right, i've filed an application for fiance and it takes way too long. 13 months for processing is just too long. We shouldn't have to suffer and wait just because a handful of people decided to play cheat with the ins.

Have you heard of the website VisaJourney?
It's a great community.
