Sightless, you really are blind!!! The retired Titan II still quite a few superior characteristics over the latests SS-18s. First the Aerozine 50 fuel is better then the straight UDMH the SS-18 uses. The mass fraction is also far better. The first stage has an empty weight of only 4.75 tonnes with a total weight of 117 tonnes! Finally, a 35 megaton warhead was considered for the titan II, significantly exceeding the power of the 20 - 25 megaton yield of of the SS-18s most powerful warhead.
your TitanII has a less empty weight because it has inferior countermeasures, which made it a sitting duck for ABM, which means that the Voevoda was and IS a superior missile, notwithstanding the fuel and warhead. Which are minor factors compared to survivability.
SS-18 is simply much more advanced, otherwise the Titans would not have been retired.
Lower empty weight allows more countermeasures to be employed, as payload will increase as empty weight decreases. The Titan II came well before the ss-18. Liquid propellant icbms where made obsolete in America by solid propellant icbms in the late 60's and would eventually be retired. The USSR had difficulty developing solid propellant missiles (in fact, Russia still has trouble) and had to rely on liquid propellants. Solid propellant icbms have far higher survivorability then liquid ones.
So do you think when US sattelites will spot SS-18 launches and discover their trajectory, americans will be sitting like ducks? No, they will launch their own ICBM's towards Russia.

Yes, generally, Americans & Russians are nice folks, among the common people. However, if you think that Russia, the US, China, France, the UK, Israel & other nuclear powers are going to scrap their nukes.....NO WAY. Nukes are integral with national pride, status, & security. And, there are huge military-industrial interests in each nuclear state that will block any attempt to disarm. Nukes will be used in the future, probably in the MidEast or between Pakistan & India.

Once again, I think you are being ironic. I know Russians and have studied their history and culture since about 1970. Those NCO's, officers, and engineers are simply happy that this SS-18 has successfully launched. I would be surprised if any man in that video segment is even thinking about the USA. It is their job in the Strategic Rocket Forces to develop, maintain, & be able to deploy these very sophisticated & complex weapons.

I lived there 30 yrs, but got out several yrs ago, with the smart money, never to return. It should be kicked out of the USA, except for a few loyal counties in the far north. actually both sides have about the same amount of deliverable warheads now. At the peak of the arms race the U.S. had a little over 20,000 warheads and the Russians over 14,000. Regardless both sides would have lost even in a minor exchange. The amount of dust and radiation put into the air by about 200 megatons would be able to wipe out civilization

Actually in the mid 80's the soviet union had 45,000 warheads while the USA stockpile peaked in the 1960's at around 30,000, and nowdays the Russians still have more at ~4,800 vs 2,700 for the USA. Numbers don't mean much though, both sides have more than enough to wipe each other off the face of the planet

russia had to attack the west in 70's - early 80's, to have any chance.The ussr was bankrupt and technologically beaten after that.Probably before that even but the west wasn't sure how strong they really were and therefore their plan for defense had potentially fatal floors.Apparently in russia senior political figures new this and wanted war in the early 80's,knowing the country would be a ruin 10-15 years time.Thank god they never got their way.

Our country was doing pretty well, till the collapse of Soviet Union. Poverty and famine does come with an ecnomic inflation of 2000% in a period of 10 years, it is as expected as snow in Siberia. I am sure, with good leadership, it will do better in the years to come. Unless of course the geopolitical development pushes us to another major war.

Titan was nt true silo based missile - launching required fueling it in its silo, and then raising launcher and missile out of the silo on elevator
saying "Nice Titan 1 copy" about SS-18- is a same like say about AK-74 - "nice "Tommy Gun" copy"

Sightless, you really are blind!!! The retired Titan II still quite a few superior characteristics over the latests SS-18s. First the Aerozine 50 fuel is better then the straight UDMH the SS-18 uses. The mass fraction is also far better. The first stage has an empty weight of only 4.75 tonnes with a total weight of 117 tonnes! Finally, a 35 megaton warhead was considered for the titan II, significantly exceeding the power of the 20 - 25 megaton yield of of the SS-18s most powerful warhead.

your TitanII has a less empty weight because it has inferior countermeasures, which made it a sitting duck for ABM, which means that the Voevoda was and IS a superior missile, notwithstanding the fuel and warhead. Which are minor factors compared to survivability.
SS-18 is simply much more advanced, otherwise the Titans would not have been retired.

Lower empty weight allows more countermeasures to be employed, as payload will increase as empty weight decreases. The Titan II came well before the ss-18. Liquid propellant icbms where made obsolete in America by solid propellant icbms in the late 60's and would eventually be retired. The USSR had difficulty developing solid propellant missiles (in fact, Russia still has trouble) and had to rely on liquid propellants. Solid propellant icbms have far higher survivorability then liquid ones.

Each Akula class subs(largest in the world) was armed with 20 solid fuel rockets.

Superior military? No offence, but your comment sounds like patriotic crap. By the way, USSR military had warfare superiority in 70's, but since 80's USSR lost parity with the US in military sphere. Since this time, russian military is facing degradal, not improvement. "New" tanks, figters,helicopters, but what use from them if your country can't buy them. PAK-FA is a example that warfare is still half-dead: I hear promises about it's maiden flight since 2004, now they talking about 2009...

Most, very likely Israel is very afraid of Iran, which's now developing nuclear power, so they will try to lobby their interests in US, and make Bush wage another war. SS-18's service time is to be extended to 2020 or 2015.
