I was laid off today. It was my first job, took me 2 years to finally get it after school. This is the song I listened to for my last hour of work. Not 25 years there, but it still stung.
I hate that this gig was in my backyard and i missed it! come back benny!! check out my version of the song on my channel if anyone has time. Would really appreciate the feedback. cheers
@nixrox13 Same story, I'm 13, and everybody is listening to crappy music. Ben Folds, Elton John, Arcade Fire.....people need to listen to good music! Ben Folds is awesome!
@nixrox i agree! hes so good but lady gaga and katy perry are taking over! the only person who knows how to wrie music is the man on the screen with the piano! ben, the best.
This song, and ben probably didn't know it at the time, has such a real meaning especially in today's times. Just a brilliant song overall and by far one of the most beautiful arrangements I've ever head by Folds.
This song make me cry so hard, almost as worse as Imagine by Lennon. Thank you Ben Folds, for making true music for the kids of this generation to love.
@nixrox13 Don't worry. In my experience, most people spend the first 18 years of their life trying to convince everyone else that they're the same, and spend the rest of their life trying to convince everyone else that they are somehow different. Just be glad you have a head start.
True story. I had an English teacher named Fred Jones. I had him for my senior English class in the 2009-2010 school year. He told us that he was going to retire after this year. Around February 2010, he fell ill and had to take time off from teaching. Around April, we found out that he was diagnosed with stomach cancer. On May 15, 2010, he passed away. He taught high school English for almost 50 years. The whole school showed up for his funeral. Gets me all choked up. Miss you Dr. Jones.
I am also 14 and I love Ben Folds so much, and when people ask what are some of your favorite bands or artists, I tell them Ben Folds, and other various artists. It blows me away that such a great artist isn't known in this generation! I love his music and I hope more people get into him!
i'm recording a solo album of my own original music and when i hear the songs i can't help but to think of Ben Folds. He is such a huge inspiration and the greatest songwriter i've ever listened to.
The right hand doesn't move in the intro but I was talking about the left hand. The sheet music I have has the left hand moving left to right quite a bit in the intro but in this video Ben's left hand doesn't look to be moving too much. Maybe it is but I just can't tell.

This is an absolutely incredible song. But at the start when the camera pans down to his hands it looks like he's faking it. I don't see the keys going down and plus it seems like his left hand should be moving more left to right. Assuming, that is, that the audio and video are matched up. Somebody enlighten me.
@yonomow If you still care, he's not faking it. It matches up perfectly. Checked it a few times, even checked the keys he's playing to ensure there's no trickery.
@yonomow it's totally real. promise. he probably has really big hands(to reach the lower notes easier), but the left hand doesn't move a lot in that short part you can actually see.
@yonomow Yeah man Ben Folds is totally faking playing this song that he wrote and I can play. Actually this entire orchestra is definitely orchestra-syncing. Their 50 years of training didn't prepare them for C and G major.
Are you comparing the two as storytellers? I dunno, but I do know that Dylan sucks live. Haven't seen Ben Folds live, as I'm not a fan, except for his first album.
@HoldTheMayo904 I wouldn't be so quick to discard Gaga as frivolous or idiotic.
Ben plays the pop game in some of his works as well. And it's worth pointing out that Ben here is quite mature, after well over a decade of song-writing (and many more decades of life).
@Suitecake sorry, but when your putting comparing ANY modern day "artist" such as gaga to Folds its like comparing a elementary diploma to a PhD.
