  • Im a pianist and every time i hear this im wowed

  • no one but the master himself..

  • Excellent tones, loving the harmonies and scales, I bloody love jazz!!!

I do have one question for any jazz enthusiasts out there though... I raise my eyebrows quite a bit playing my classical compositions... but why do ALL really good jazz musicians talk to themselves when playing? What are they saying haha!? I'd love to know!

  • this was so BORING.. yeah, just reply my message and say I dont have music taste and listens to Justin Bieber etc. This was boring, just hitting random notes on a piano. Awful. And the reason why Im on this video if you're going to ask, is because I must have a lecture about him in music class. This is not music, not at all. But thats just my opinion.

  • @TKJOfficial It's awesome! It's the tones that are just great! Some people love it some people hate it, it's still music, and personally, I love the tones, the chords and the melodies he plays. Jazz is a bit of an aqcuired taste though I've got to admit, if you're not into it, I can totally understand how it can sound like a bunch of notes randomly played. But this definitely isn't a bunch of notes randomly put together without thought. I would love to be able to play like this!

  • @TKJOfficial IQ < or equal to zero?

  • @TKJOfficial Then just go away instead of leaving your opinionated comment. come back when you understand music.

  • 25 people should be brutally beaten until they admit that they have no taste in music

  • @rllamarca It's amazing that the dumb fucks who post comments like this generic bullshit, listen to jazz.

  • Einfach Klasse.I-Like♪♫♫♥

  • fusion on a piano, amazing

  • 25 people should be heart and soulless,,

  • $cientology alert!

  • 25 dislikes?

  • Chick is another one of my idols, along with Jimmy Smith. I taught myself Romantic Warrior, a simple song, but with the greatest coda of an ending I've ever heard him write. I transcribed his solo, but I play my own. I taught it to myself, including the entire ending of the song. I've never heard any other piano player even attempt it. It's a shame that the general public just doesn't get it. By the way, most of my musician friends can't play it, either, so I just do it alone. Oh, well.

  • sorry, sounds like me when i doodle after too many drinks

  • @blooperjohn When your doodles start looking as good as this sounds, you'll be an artist that Picasso would be proud to call his friend! This may sound a bit like "musical doodling" if you only listen to it on a superficial level... but believe me there are subtle and amazing things going on here on about 4 different planes: this man was one of the most under-rated musical geniuses of the 20th century.

  • @altareggo yeah, well i'm not buyin it,

    at least not this video.

  • @blooperjohn

You must be Peter from Family Guy then.

  • Sound Check brought me here!

  • Chic is in class of his own. I have been listening to him from the time I was 16 and got to see him with return to forever in the seventies. Awesome player who surrounds himself with awesome muscians. I have always loved his music.

  • Pretty bad. I dont like it.

  • I cannot come up with adequate words to describe the feeling I've gotten from listening to this.

  • Ive been watching it for 1 hour. It's simply unbeleivable.

  • It makes me sad to know that such genius was successfully brainwashed by scientology.

  • He is creating harmonics by muting the string with his hand, much the same as you would do on a guitar string. Just a way of playing with the sound of the instrument, really.

  • I don't know much about pianos- why was Chick holding a hand over some of the= I beleive the term is hammers? thaT were hitting the strings at the beginning?

  • @richintalent I'm a guitarist but I'll give it a shot- I think he was using harmonics- that is, partially muting the string at a certain length so that it vibrates in a different way (and thus produces a different sound)

  • Goosebumps... Really

  • This deserves to be in HD...

  • esse cara inventa kada uma !!!!

  • Chick remains where so many have fallen off...it is more fun rediscovering him years after the fact...Amazing

  • Jesus Christ....

  • I would give anything to be able to hear inside his head as he plays...

  • @nuck81 how about a life of dedication? I know what you're thinking. It's not enough. Two lives of undivided attention and dedication!!

  • @nuck81 I think what you would hear is the same as what you hear in this video.

  • @CroissantOrange If you hate it, don't look it up and watch it. Maybe stop smackin' your pud in mom's basement for 5 min, step outside..and get some fresh air. Might cheer you up.

  • @CroissantOrange why do you hate him so much? this man obviously has more talent in a single hand than you will have in your entire life.

  • @CroissantOrange Well aren't you cranky today; want a juice box?

  • @CroissantOrange Oh yea? Show us how you can do it better. Chick is probably the most accomplished living jazz pianist and you are ... ?

  • @CroissantOrange You call THIS new "agey-y sh*t"? What planet do you live on? It's time you compare this with what most people my age listen to nowadays. Models. They can't sing, but if they look really attractive, they're marketed as an amazing artist. It's ridiculous really.

  • @macsdestroypcs no offense but you have no concept of what new age means. "new age" does not mean "new music", it means "new age", the ambient hippie genre. pop isn't new age, and never will be, since new age is the antithesis of pop. your comparison to pop stars is bogus. this isn't new age btw, but you're still wrong and your comments are uncalled for.

  • @CroissantOrange . Poor pervert, quit smoking that shit and sucking that dick.

  • @CroissantOrange Thank you for providing one data point in reminding myself that you can be racist, tasteless, and ignorant, no matter where you are from (you say you're from Vietnam). It's comforting of sorts.

  • @onegnometorule Another easily impressionable mind slave telling me I have no taste. Guess it's logic because feces like you know about having no taste or taste like shit. And of course for political correct parasites, mentioning how some people can't do something is "racism".

-'Eskimo can't cook gratin dauphinois man",

    -"Shut up you racist fuck!".

Well, I guess personal critical mind is something you new age fascist cunts call heresy. Fucking animals think they can converse with men.

  • @CroissantOrange You wonder what people who waste their time trying to aggravate others they'll never meet are like, other than cowards, obviously. You can say the same about someone bothering to comment, like me. It must be a sad life, probably spent between other geekish endeavors similar to trolling, to derive one's pleasure from 'huh...huh...huh...he doesn't get that i'm just being totally sarcastic and funny.' I guess rl Beavises exist or that show wouldn't have been so funny.

  • @onegnometorule The moment you, along with saying the same old stupid shit, mention the concept of "trolling" or any of those internet ape shit pseudo-sociological jargon, I knew that I have to deal with yet another maggot infested piece of brain that been sitting in public shit hole for a while among darkened syringes and used condoms. By the way, the only obvious things in your statement, in contrary to your deduction about cowards, are your idiocy and logic-depraved existence. Unfunny fuck.

  • @CroissantOrange love the troll. :D Almost thought you meant it.

  • amazing the effects he adds by touching the strings

  • @jonathanguitar27 its pretty much a harmonic on a guitar. same principle

  • @shanedmay yeah i had pretty much assumed so cuz i play guitar but its amazing the things this man does with the piano

  • (which is a pretty common resolution) *

  • @spankyxc0re I think it's a G# diminished scale, resolving to a c minor chord (which

  • bad pianist

  • saw him with RTF unstoppable!

  • Comment removed

  • check out chick now hes super skinny

  • Comment removed

  • @ox092 oh wait, you probably thought i was referring to when he sticks his hand inside the piano, when i was referring to the scale he plays near the beginning. the ascending, deep ominous one. i wanted to know what it was

  • Remember the great Esbjörn...

  • @MrTheLighter What's ridiculous about being able to lift a spacecraft from a swamp...with your mind? OT VII introduces you to Jedi mind tricks, once you've mastered invisibility.

  • 20 dislikes are a bit too much in a chick corea performance.

  • It's nice to hear a real groove after all this pop music in America. I was beginning to think there were no real pianists left!

  • Genius baby... pure musical Genius....

  • edward james olmos ?

  • He may be a great pianist, but he is also a scientology member. So, shame on him!

  • @TilltheBill i went to see him in the mid-nineties. i remember signing up for his mailing list. instead of receiving info about merchandise, CDs and concerts.... i received leaflets on Scientology. back then i was only about 17 and scientology, perhaps, wasnt so well known in the uk. but Chick obviously wanted me to know 'a little more' about it. my advice when it comes to musicians:.... enjoy what comes from their hands... not their mouths! :)

  • @TilltheBill and you're a bigot, so shame on you.

  • The most interesting interpretation of Armando's Rhumba I've heard. Very cool to hear what he does with his own tunes over time, and how he hears them differently now, 35 years later.

  • One of the best performances of anything I've ever seen in my life. Chick is a master, it's undeniable.

  • Ah, dang it, I can tell he's making exactly the sounds he wants to make, naturally and perfectly, but they are not sounds I am able to appreciate. I'd love to know what you folks are hearing that I can't.

  • @50srefugee

What music do you appreciate then?

Well, maybe it's just far from your taste. Maybe you're simply not into jazzy sounds. You're hearing exaclty the same. Maybe it's not your kind of thing, but if you like this style (I do) you'll love this: very diversified, ingenious playing, amazing technique, tastefully used damper pedal, some polyrhytmic tricks and flashy moments. Amazing music.

  • @50srefugee I can see what you mean in that this music is very hard to comprehend and is very much an acquired taste. It has a lot to do initially with the context of his style and his position within the jazz world. There are many nuances within his work that must be picked up on and recognized in order to fully appreciate. Check out his Return to Forever stuff - it's a good place to start if you want to see what is so great about this man.

  • wow

  • cool

  • damn... this is freakin awsome!! his feel for rhythm is just great!!

  • I'm playing jazz piano aswell and this wonderful pianost is an inspiration for me.

  • test

  • anyone knows the name of the song please?

  • @pedrovmelo armando's rhumba

  • check this piano solo, about three and a half minute in:

    watch?v=H7Z-h-TSqzw&feature=related

  • what song is this?

  • @dollduggabuzz Why don't you just read the information under the video. The song is called Armando's Rumba.

  • no you're doing wrong ,you are playing piano not the guitar !!!!!!

    but awesome

  • he played wrong notes, twice...

  • he sucks at religious choice, but he is a monster on the piano

  • Brilliant. Pretty good quality audio!

  • La mejor música , con el mejor músico y compositor , arreglador y director

  • something about him reminds me of king kong...?

  • why oh fucking WHY does justin bieber need to be mentioned on EVERY music video? hating on him constantly basically just amounts to loving him, if you dont like him then SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT HIM

  • @rmartin232 That's a really weird statement. People feel the need to express themself about products like Bieber, and what better place than a jazz video to find like minded people?

  • @mrmadman86 yes but if you dont like him then why talk about him constantly?

  • @rmartin232 People talk love to talk about things they like/dislike or otherwise have opinions about. that's just how we work. Be it politics, music, dictators or actors.

I'm kind of surprised you didn't know that.

  • @rmartin232 Oh the irony...

  • THIS is music. THIS should be taught on our schools. THIS should be passed to our children. Period.

  • 17 people like justin bieber more than this.

  • @frenchtoast11111 at least one person despises you and others like you for coming out with such an asinine comment

  • Comment removed

  • @frenchtoast11111

That is because people like spoon fed music.

  • @baileal why cant everyone love jazz fusion pianists ):

  • i feel some mario bros. action going on.

  • One of the best things I've ever heard ! Wow !!

  • @narkopedia and you had to bring that prick up... come on, faggot... don't act like a child. We don't even think 'bout that crap when listening to this.

  • @xvigox i agree with your sentiments, but fuck, man, that's a little harsh. haha

  • Told yu palm-muting piano strings woz cule!!

  • goshhhh, pinch harmonic on piano.. this is great!!

  • Wow!

  • Who's the sinister guy about to mug Chick at 1:52 - call security!

  • @visog LOL

  • @visog lol

  • @visog :)))

  • the real legend

  • FUKC, he hits SOOOoo many dissonant chords, it's not even funny. How does he fukcing do that shit?!

  • Chick has his own jazz vocab...awesome!

  • Pure genius!

  • You are one heck of a piano tuner, Chick! :-)

Sometimes it's so nice to hear a piano, pure and simple like this. But DEFINITELY not played simply!!!! :-D

    ... Boogie!

  • I love Chick Corea as he is brilliant.....but getting off the subject just a bit.....is it just me or is he looking more and more like Jerry Lewis as he gets older ? I almost invisioned him say "Hey Lady" during his piece (lol) No disrespect to Chick or Jerry :)

  • @JohnnieRhodes Mick Jagger looks more and more like Don Knotts as he gets older (or a batfish, take your pick) , so I'm sure Chick wouldn't mind being likened to Jerry Lewis.

  • ; D

  • just a bit good

  • This man's timing is uncanny. Compare this to his recording of the same piece on the album "Solo Piano". The arrangement is somewhat similar, he uses some of the same ideas (especially the coda) but it is still mostly improvised. And still his timing doesn't falter in the slightest in either interpretation. You could gauge a metronome by his ear. Simply stunning.

  • @Superphilipp As drummer...............this guy is amazing......................meter is a matter of internal clock, and he has one, maybe 2 or 8,or 11tyseven

  • T_T errrr.... i always love this man, i think he 's whispering on the piano hehe,, observe da lipz, he's doing kinds of magicspell hihi

  • Whatcha doin' there, son, tunin' that thang? You tricky old fart! :-) Happy 69th birthday today, Chick, we love ya.

  • Wow

  • the master of soul

  • His thoughts are already here.

  • Da paura

  • Sublime!

  • increible

  • Great music. Like UZEB.

  • @EGI313 Yay, UZEB!!!

  • hello Chick ,if you read this :Thank you for the music you give us .I am very happy with it .

  • chick, you are the best. I love this video.

  • chick corea would be also a nice porn star name

  • this is definitely one of my favourite pieces by Chick.

  • always so relaxed and at ease. I really like Chick Corea.... (I mean beside him being a musical genius we all know that....)

  • chick corea is a genious but keith jarrett is even beyond that somehow
