Final Fantasy 9 - Rose of May

I played this game as a little kid, not really knowing what was going on, just trying to kill Kuja because he was such a bad guy. Then I played through as a teen, and I understood, and I cried quite a few times, because the music matches so perfectly with the moments.

I wish this game could come back in HD instead of FFX. I loved FFX, don't get me wrong, but FFIX was the best Final Fantasy, if not the best game ever.

gosh....what a lovely song. I say the creators of Final Fantasy really are geniuses for the wonderful music they make for their games. It's entirely half of the reason I adore FF so much!

Whats with all the hate to Steiner? He made me laugh out loud several times, very few characters can do that. It was his buffoon nature that set him as such a unique character but also his dedication to Alexandria. Every FFIX has their own brilliantly integrated personality and i thoroughly appreciated all of them. Truly astounding game.

amarant's backstory is explained in an active time event in treno during the cardgame turnement. but you can only see it if you chose the right dialog options, you won't get to see much but it will help you understand his character and how he does what he does.

the last game in the FF series to reach a pinnacle of great story and music... lets face it.... FF10 started a downfall of good quality story and music and gameplay... while FF10 was great... thats when the stories had less time and thought put into it.... same with the music.... the graphics were concentrated on way too much....

graphics are the only thing game designers care about anymore....

@Turatle Haha, you seem to forget that the thing that ruined FF10 was the horrible, horrible, BAD-HORRIBLE acting for most of the cast (I'm looking at you, Tidus and Yuna's VA's). It also didn't help that you couldn't skip that bad acting in the cutscenes, which I admit took up about 30% of the game. I can't really agree with you about the battle system, though. In fact, I think the battle system was one of the best, if not the best, in the whole Final Fantasy franchise.

well yeah the acting was crappy.... but when the whole damn game was experimental is garunteed to fail

and the battle sytem was great on the fact that you could plan your moves to counter your enemies future strikes.... but i think lots of ppl like the more dynamic system of while your trying to get that phoenix pinion to use itself and just as it does your last char gets killed and it still gets used and revives everybody

LOL, good times fighting Beatrix. I remember all the times I had to battle her over and over again after losing the first couple of times. I'm serious, she was a tough boss. That's why everytime I beat her I considered it an accomplishment. Ha, 9 never ceased to amaze me.

ya i lvled like crazy in disc 1 when you go up the vine and the moogle said it was dangerous, i could only defeat the birds in the forest though, that dragon is just too much at those low lvls....got my guys up to like 30 though before i hit disc 2 so it made the game alot easier for me :P

If I'm not mistaken I think it's called loss of me and plays for both Beatrix and Steiner when they judge the decisions of their queen and themselves.

I always asociate her theme with her battle theme, but thats just me

Oh, I had always thought that it was just Kate's title for her version of the song. When I first heard it, I looked everywhere for a midi of Rose of May, but never found one. I downloaded every FF9 midi that I could find, and listened to all of them.

Once, I found that Loss of Me and Rose of May were the same song, I made myself some sheet music and actually put in both titles because I wasn't sure what it should be.

I wonder why or how it was mistranslated?

@Viperstrike28 Beatrix would have probably played out more like this semi-authority figure that'd go at odds with the more free-spirited characters. Steiner was on an equal level with the other characters, which is why it worked out the way it did. Not to mention that Steiner's conflict (choosing between his duty and what he truly believes in) was genuine, and not something Beatrix really had. Not to mention that Garnet wouldn't ignore Beatrix the way she does Steiner at certain points.

at the moment i'm playing it for the at least 7th time. It were probably a lot more times. I reached everything in the game including Excalibur II, but this game never becomes boring.

As for me, this is the best ff game on psx. FF-VII was great, but FF-IX really brings emotion to the player. You feel with the characters and with their story.

This music reminds me of the part after you fought Beatrix the third time. Those who played this game know what I'm talking about.

I've played it more :) I have four saved on my memory card, and quite a fair share that were deleted.

It's almost crazy, I think I played it first ~2001 (I was sevenish) and in the ten years ensuing, I've played every two years, and sometimes more often that. In fact, I'm getting a tad nostalgic. Maybe when school ends... :)

I really, really wish they would remaster this on PS3. I'd do anything.

That's actually a good idea, if some third party wanted to remaster it. Like honestly, that would be one of the coolest things ever, to replay this but with better graphics. And the option to turn off voice editing in case the voice acting isn't good/ the actors' voice don't match what it should be.

Alas, it's probably a pipe dream as long as FFVII hasn't been remade. Although a few important FF execs have wanted to redo FFIX, I don't think there's as big a market. :(
