@Rogdub I would say it to any Austrian without a problem a simple look into a history book tells you Austrians are Germans. Austrian is a nationality yes, but ethnically Austrians are Germans. It is correct to call them German. A true Austrian is a German nationality with the idea of "Greater Germany" which includes Austria.

@Rogdub I would say it to any Austrian without a problem a simple look into a history book tells you Austrians are Germans. Austrian is a nationality yes, but ethnically Austrians are Germans. It is correct to call them German. A true Austrian is a German nationality with the idea of "Greater Germany" which includes Austria.

Austrian is just a nationality not an ethnicity, The only reason Austria never joined Germany is because when Otto unified it as a single state he kicked out the Austrians in 1866 and the North German Confederation took place, Austria is included in Greater Germany.

We live in the 21st century and according to that I can say (I was born in Germany and live for many years in Austria) that there are huge differences. Of course there are more ethnically similarities between Austria and Germany than maybe to France. An Austrian would rather appreciate when you say, that Austrians are South. Bavarians.

I would say Mozart was a Salzburger, because in 1756 Salzburg was an autonomous city, which was neither in the Hapsburg-Austria nor in the electorate Bavaria-Munich (at that time Germany did not exicted). Salzburg changed several times between Germany and Austria, wo it is quite impossible to give a general answer

Both are ethnically German but different nationalitys now, correct. Calling an Austrian "Austrian" is only partially correct due to being born in Austria and is not part of Germany now, but there are ethnically, racially, language is German. Austria in German even means "Eastern Reich for Germans"

The modern Austria was totaly occupied by Romans and Germany partially. And nowadays there so many poeple from former Yugoslavia. And even if he had not been german and was not born to german nationals, his ruling of germany for 12 years connects him inseperably to german history... by the way, i don't think this was ever broadcasted in germany..
