I don't favour a myriad of pickup options (like the Brian May guitar). I don't use an amp, so most of the subtelties are lost in the amp modelling hardware I use. But I figured that blending would give me an almost infinite variety of tones from one pickup to the other. he only thing I might add later is a kill switch. With no volume control things could get messy!
i think that you have a slab of nice quality mahogany there,as far as i can see that will give a good midrange to bass sound when you plane it,check carefully to see what end splits you have, they tend to run-in further than you think..i see that the powers-that-be is consulting the book..excellent it should go together fairly quickly,,,,john
Whoa dude!! I've always wanted to do that!! I have all the electronic knowhow as well as the tools, but never got off my ass and tried it. Can't wait to see your masterpiece creation!! You are starting with a great foundation!!
How exciting! I would love to make my own one someday, or get someone else to piece one together for me... Come to think of it I do know a wood turner! This could be a new project! Thanks for the inspiration Peri! I would like to make something that resembles the Rick Turner Model 1. That's a groovy looking beast!
A friend tells the story of his friend who decided to make a guitar and cut the centre out of his wife's coffee table, covered the hole with magazines, hoping she wouldn't notice... His wife was not pleased, needless to say, when she dusted a few days later.
She could have put a large plant in the centre and made it a feature! But I guess it was her favorite coffee table. I suppose it seemed a good idea at the time. The question is did he make a really good guitar or not???
How completely AWESOME! Your dad must be very talented. I can't wait to see how it turns out. Looking at that block of wood was like looking at a hunk of marble just before Rodin got his hands on it! You can see the guitar dying to get out! :)
Ooohhh... Lots of updates! I want to see this project complete. Mahogany, though? Good hard wood for tone and resonance, but HEAVY! The Lawrence pups are nice.
Wow - forming the body is going to be a labor of love. Please make some video of the process. A superb hiscock guitar! haha. And then we get to listen to peri playing it - what could be sweeter! Peace :-)
Great project Peri... I built my own electric guitar once from a second-hand neck and electronics and a plank of wood which had been cut from a railway sleeper. I sold it for a tidy proffit!
i like how you have made a balance between the pick ups i thought of doing that with my own but it doesn't give a lot of options with the sound
