@monkey050 Yes they were allowed for years until like a month ago the state police really cracked down and outlawed dashlights which its stupid when you think about because everyone should know our police lights are blue and red. I see no reason to outlaw them and when i find that article ill send it to you
@monkey050 you know its crazy when i read it in the newspaper, you know why the firefighters? But i guess it is what is and a simple i phone app changed law thats the craziest thing ever
@chevyman360 According to someone I know who moved to PA several years ago who was in the fire department where I live, dash lights weren't allowed technically in the first place. Could you send me the article so I can send it to him?
i just ordered one of these because in PA they just outlawed dashlights because some punks pulled over a off duty cop by using an police light app on there phone so we have to take the heat for it which is bullshit bc i have to spend another 300 out of my pocket but on the bright side i think it will be worth it.
@chevyman360 WOW. Are you freakin serious?! A state law over that? That's a pretty hefty change - that affects ALL volunteers. I think you'll start seeing more snails and dual-rotators on roofs since they're cheaper. I'll have to talk to one of my friends in PA and ask him if he heard anything.
@ems7572 Thanks. And this is probably just my opinion, but I would recommend for a vehicle like that to stick with the dash light unless you REALLY need all-around visibility. And if the Blazer is the vehicle I'm thinking of, you'll suffer from vehicle length-originated visibility problems for the back of the bar. The higher and longer a truck\SUV is, the more useless it is to have a lightbar. That's when you stick to surface-mounts or interior lighting.
Just picked up this bar, Thanks for the Video and giving another view of it. I drive a full sized van. I picked up a mini bar from sirennet to put on the rear end and this bar will go up front. I hope it works out, just using my imagination at this point. Be Safe out there!
@notme411 Congrats on the purchase, but make sure you hide the wire somehow. Don't let yours get stolen like mine, and like I mentioned earlier, be careful with the flash pattern switch. Pushing it too much will cause it to break.
@monkey050 I got the Bar in on Friday, I installed it this afternoon. Switch was FUBAR straight out of the box. I suggest to anyone to purchase something else. Ill report back on how Customer Service treats me after dropping 500 in their pockets. (I must say for the 3min it did work, holy crap was it bright.)
@notme411 Their customer service is pretty good. On my second bar one of the rear modules was half dead and they sent me a new one provided I ship them the old module. It worked out OK. Easy to replace. Regarding that switch, it will probably still work but it stops clicking. I considered just replacing the switch myself but it is kind of impossible. They need to be made aware that their switches are not sturdy enough.
@monkey050 Its funky, Power is good but it seems like the pattern wont "kick off." Like there is something keeping it from going full bore. I had an Electriction Check out the wiring and power is not an issue. My only other thought is that switch is not completing the circut. (Spelling is bad I know. Long day of farting around with that bar.) Im hoping I can just get a new switch sent out and all will be well. Im just freaked out.
@notme411 I've had that happen too. It's like a couple of the modules will just stay steady lit. I'm not sure why - I think it's something with the computer circuit. Unplugging and replugging in the bar made it work for me.
It has been 2 years since you posted this video. Can you tell us if you have had any issues with failures of the lightbar or the controler since then?
@compaq2441 Yes, it was stolen and I had to buy a new one. I'd call that an issue. On the new controller the flash button also broke. Very cheap switch.
I bought mine about 10 months ago and the controller went bad (still under warrenty). When i called them they could not even look up the seral number and said I would have to buy a new one ($89.95). All because they cant keep their own records. In short it is an ok product with bad support.

By the way, I like your vids. I think trucks are the hardest vehicles to light effectively, especially when you have a cap (I drive a Ford Ranger). Same goes for other similar vehicles that have a long roof (ex. Expedition, Tahoe, any SUV really).
does this light have a built in 12V cigarette plug attached already? and how does the control box mount so it doesn't more around inside your car, and also is there enough cable from the switch box to the light?
I just got in my K-Force 47 from STL. I will ad a video this eve. I can honestly say that it is impressive! Thanks monkey050 for your help in my decision making.
The 47"? Talk about going all out! Look forward to seeing that in action, especially the slider switch. Don't hesitate to make a video response to my video for that so I can find it easier when it's up. haha
I'm not exactly sure. I believe it's additional power cable, but that's a question you should ask STL's tech support. They have been very helpful when I've called.
I have called and talked to them a couple times myself. The seem to really want to help a customer make the right choice. I have not bought the lightbar yet and i am already impressed with the customer service.
What do you mean when you say Scan-Lock? Does this mean it wont hold the flash pattern you set? will i have to scan through it each time I turn it on?
No... the flash pattern box on STL uses a non-volatile memory so it does remember the last pattern you used. I was under the impression that Scan-Lock was a set of flash patterns used by Whelen. The name Scan-Lock has a trademark symbol where it appears on the Whelen site.
can u do i vid about the flash box because i dont no what it looks like and i orderd the stl raptor so please do a short vid about the plug and box.thanks
The flash box that comes with that is the STL Ultra. It's the same as this bar and you can see it in the Switch Boxes section of the STL site. There's really not much to the box to do a video of it but I'll see if I can get to doing one.
A pro to these kinds of modules overall is that with the way the reflector is curved and that optic in front of the LEDs, the light emitted from each module can be seen from pretty much every angle.
Two things I think STL needs to do is 1) add a dimming switch for nighttime use and 2) move away from the generic flash pattern set you see on the Verve and other similar lightbars. It's a nice unique bar, but it needs something better for flash patterns, like Scan-Lock.
STL is a great company. Their lights aren't over priced and are great quality. They also have the new raptor 27" lightbar which is about $150 cheaper if you don't want to spend the extra to get the K-Force. I have bought the Griller Pro, Dual Pro, and the Raptor 27" and I couldnt be more satisfied, they're great at getting peoples attention.
They're a good company is all. I've tried some Whelen products and they aren't as bright in my opinion and I like the design and look of the STL lights better.
I want to thank you for adding your video. You have sold me on STL and I am going to get the (STL K-Force 47" Linear) sometime next month. I will do a video and let you all see it.
I got it while it was $389. I was disappointed with the $30 shipping cost for UPS Ground, but whatever.
Favorite patterns: 1, 2, 3, 6, 12, 14. The directionals are OK.
Dislike patterns: 7, 8, 9
And the rest are OK to me.
I used it for a response today near rush hour time. Didn't have much traffic still as the response took me on mostly residential streets, but it was effective as a warning for something happening at the scene. I was second on scene after one PD officer and it did its job.
Also, I change pattern based on situation. So, I set it to something fast en-route, and something slower but still attention-getting for when I'm stopped on scene. If it's dark, I'll keep it on a fast pattern for extra safety since my state does not allow hideaway strobes.
Thats cool I got a beacon but hopefully getting some of these

sexxytimmy 2 years ago
1) Yes. There's a cigarette plug hooked up to the control box. The length of wire on that is quite short though.
2) It has a plate that can be screwed in and it slides on. I don't care about it moving around though.
3) 12' of cable from the control box to the lightbar.

thanks for the info, im going to get this light but in all amber color
