This song was once considered NYC's national anthem. My all time favorite. It is 2012 and it can still rock any party. Truly a timeless classic. I love this version and the Larry Levan remix as well. It takes me back to old block parties and when DJs played music in the parks. Those were the days.

Hello everyone, I need help on finding a certain song I heard Christmas day on Magic 106.1 FM Classic soul in Pensacola. This song sounded very familiar and had a Chicago/NY/Philly feel to it. It sounded like something I would hear in a commercial. It sounded like a Jazzy/Pop song and the singer had a very deep base voice. The guy wasn't really singing but was talking rather. Does anybody know the song I am talking about? Any experts on Jazz/soul/Swing music that could help me out? Thanks.
@FiveStarLuxury If you misunderstand my statement then you should be asking the question "what do mean in the statement posted" cause you know like everyone knows that making assumptions can make one look like an ASS!
@mingito63 I don't need to ask anything. I think you made yourself look like an ass all on your own. You made that comment, not me. Nothing to understand. Simple & plain.
"THIS" was one of the Originals of the sound of Disco, House, Club and today in 2k11/2k12 Dance/Electronica, but Mr. Hamilton Bohannon is the "Original Father" of all of this along with the other "True Godfather/s" Mr. James Brown and then Mr. Frankie Knuckles later on. much respect seen.
Best all time club song from the 70's and 80's even until today. People will be chillin in the club and when this comes on everybody gets up. Love it!!!!!
I must say that people started partying to this portion of this song in the streets of NY since 1972 then later played on radio by Mr Magic when he had his show on an independent radio station (I think it was WWRL AM or WBLI) before he went to 'BLS. THEN Franky Crocker started to catch on because intitially they only played the vocal portion of the song and had NO IDEA that the instrumental was killin it it in the clubs! LOL. 40 Years and still a Banga!

Plain and simple, this is far and away the greatest dance record EVER produced. For a certain select elite club group it was the National Anthem. I never have - nor will I ever be able to - sit still while it is played. I want people to dance to this at my funeral some day. It's what I'll be doing,. I don't even know where to begin with this post!!! It was a HUGE deal when the original version came out in 1973 and people (not DJs yet!) would just set speakers in their windows in the projects (like LG) and play this over and over, the 'hard rocks' with their Kangols, tank t-shirs, gabardine pants from Delancey St and either Pro-Keds or Converse would be outside hustling real cool with the girlies to this! If there is EVER an ALL-TIME classic to define NYC, no matter where you are, its this!
No computers at the time, only real and authentic passion of people composing music with love ,feelings and passion !! This is the essence of Soul Jazz in the birth of Disco !
Back in the day 75, used to rap on the mic, to what song yes, raps birth, landed here not saying this was the first time rap was done, but I was there in 75 when brooklyn did it in the street with scoops speakers powered from the street lamps, from blocks away all you heard was the bass, yes lawd
This song reminds me of those early 90's clubs in NYC, namely the Powerhouse. I was able to get in when I was about 16 cause I've always had a full beard. This song still stands the test of time although it contains no words whatsoever.
This joint rocked every party in NewYork Wu-Tang LL both used this sample to record record but the group was from Philly and Philly slept on the joint can you believe this
I NEVER FORGET WHEN WE LIVED IN BROOKLYN IN ELEMENTRAY SCHOOL ! P.S. 92 IN THE BK AND MY CUZIN WHO WAS A DANCER ( LOVE U CUZIN RODNEY MY U R.I.P. ) MADE A DANCE UP FOR MY SISTER LYDIA AND HER FRIENDS TO PERFORM AT THE SCHOOL TALENT SHOW ! REMEMBER THAT SIS ?
And you add the MCs rapping to this, it was 100x better than anything to Good Times.

This song reminds me of those early 90's clubs in NYC, namely the Powerhouse. I was able to get in when I was about 16 cause I've always had a full beard. This song still stands the test of time although it contains no words whatsoever.
