@imacomputer101 If you don't want to use the floyd style whammy, I would DEFINITELY recommend the Ibanez RG321, it has a fixed bridge. I bought one and modded it out too(haven't made a video of that one yet), but it's a better guitar in my opinion. The RG321 is my fave guitar in my collection right now, and it was actually cheaper than the used RG350 I got.
@dmohr7 Seemed to be the same size, I didn't have to alter anything to get the Floyd Rose Special in there. I think I needed pliers to get the original trem posts out, but the new trem posts went in pretty easy as I remember. I didn't have to jump through hoops to do this. Almost a year later, and the guitar actually sounds better now, as I've been learning to properly set up guitars.
@andyrosebrook imguessing the height had to be altered seeing as its a floyd rose replacement, one last question, are the strength of the harmonics and sustain way better than the original edge and if so an example would be awesome!,
@dmohr7 I'll be making a new video on this guitar soon, check back in the next week or so. I'd say the sustain and harmonics didn't improve dramatically over the original edge, but honestly I didn't play the original edge very much because it wouldn't stay in tune due to ruined knife edges(I got the guitar used). Also, sustain on floyd style guitars apparantly can be dramatically enhanced by adding weight/mass to the underside of the floyd, they're called big blocks I think.
@andyrosebrook My complete apologies! you can forget the other question , i just remembered the most important question i was ment to ask what did you do with the ZPS system at the back, floyd rose needs the normal screw in wood right? , but theres a a bit of wood cut out for the ZPS spring adjustment , the extra bit cut out is just wide enough to not put screws in, please reply!
@dmohr7 This one originally came with an Edge III I think......it was pretty trashed, so I threw it out when I installed the Floyd Rose Special. I didn't have to mod the guitar at all to swap these trems out, didn't have to drill any holes or anything like that. The bridge swap-out was the easiest part of improving the guitar.
hey I have the same guitar and I want to add a brass block for it but they dont make one currently for Edge III what type Bridge did you replaced it with ?
hey just a quick question when you pull a harmonic up with the tremelo bar with that nice pickup is the sustain good? like when you pull the bar back how many seconds till the sound dies away
@dmohr7 I'll see if I can post a video of that sometime soon, I finally got my recording studio set up so you can really get a professional audio sample of what it sounds like.
@TurboTurner812 I basically scoured jemsite.com and google looking for schematics for wiring an actual Jem. I finally found one that I could read and understand, but I lost the link. Whatever the standard capacitors were, that's what I used. The hardest part was finding a schematic that was well diagrammed and easy to read.
Nice fixing up! Personally, though, I'm not a fan of the Evolution 2. It's too vintage sounding compared to the original, and doesn't have the same punch I liked from the original Evolution.
Now, basswood versus alder: most Ibanez Jem guitars are alder body, as I know of Steve promoting a basswood one. Yes, the 350 is basswood. Basswood has a brighter tone and less mids and bass with less weight and durability. The sustain also rolls off earlier. Alder, in my opinion is a far better wood, but
@RojoYamamoto Yeah it definitely isn't a true expensive premium Jem, but it sounds damn close! Someday I plan on buying a real Jem, till then this will at least let me practice and get better at using a trem.
@andyrosebrook It does sound pretty great! I may end up doing something like this to my ol' Ibanez. I've been inspired by how much the tone can be altered. Once again, very nice job!!
@RojoYamamoto It sounds even better now that I know how to properly use it. It's not a heavy metal riff guitar, the pickups really seem to sound best when doing leads.
an original floyd would not fit, so only floyd pro or special i dont remember which has the locking nuts upside on the floyd, but i will change the whole neck or will change the frets on the neck coz they are crap thoo, and stock pickups are crap too.
@padawan007 Yeah, I redid the frets on this one myself, used it as practice for learning how to do it, it turned out really great and it plays a lot better now. Definitely needed to have the pickups replaced, those stock pickups aren't going to cut it unless you're just starting out and practicing.
hey man..I have a rg370dx is almost the same guitar, do you have any problem installing the bridge, I mean the studs? the radius? the rg has 400mm radius and I think the floyd rose special has less radius, have you noticed some weird in the playability? that bridge has improved the sustain ?
@George2ec The studs basically just popped out(with the help of some pliers), and the new ones popped in. I didn't use glue or anything. The playability seems as good or better, although this is my first floyd style guitar so I can't really compare it to other floyd style axes. I recently got through modding an RG321(fixed bridge) and installing an air norton and a tone zone, and it seems like my rg350 is easier to play. Love that RG321 though, had to have a fixed bridge ibanez. :D
@Cyrsis13145 Yep, some Jems are alder body I think but mine is of course the RG350's original basswood, not sure if that affects tone but mine sounds just like a jem.
@Aangrox No routing, it's a Floyd Rose Special which seems to be an OFR to me, I'm not an expert but for less than $100 for a gold floyd it's been awesome.
Sounds nice and articulate. I have that Evo setup in a Steinberger of mine and they sound great for cutting through a mix. Tell me, did you have to modify the guitar body to mount the Floyd or did it drop in with no problems? The gold hardware looks sweet on that white finish. Cudos!
would it be ok if i just never used the wammy thing?

when you said you ripped the old posts out and stuff, are the floyd rose trem posts the same size?

@wisesatyr72 Floyd Rose Special. Purchased on Ebay. Pretty sure it's a Chinese imitation of a Floyd Rose Original. Fit perfectly, works great.

Yeah, Ofr or Floyd Rose Special on this case, drops right in without any problems. This guitar now stays in tune forever, even through vicious abuse.
Yeah I'm very happy with the tone, and the coil tap makes it more versatile.
