  • ......hehe just a few months later they then went on their Reformed tour.....Vienna is a classic 80s album one of the best. Vienna the tune is also a classic of the 80s.

  • "The remasters were made with the full cooperation of all four band members" That speaks volumes to the phenominal sonic quality of these remasters which I own and never get tired listening to. You can't say the same for the remastered (2002) classic Ozzy albums which Randy Rhoads played on and Sharon Osbourne decided to screw Bob Daisley (Bass) and Lee Kerslake (Drums) out of royalties on.

  • nothing to be embarrassed about they were beautiful songs and albums i love them

  • Thanks Midge, thank you for helping your fans getting older with truth melody songs

  • Midge Ure has been a true class act in EVERY interview I've seen. He's well spoken intelligent and very humble. Whether a fan or not, IMHO he serves as a true archetype to follow for anybody who wishes to put pen to paper and scribble out a set of lyrics we hope somebody might enjoy.

  • He and his band mates made some truly deep and wonderful music! Ultravox and Midge Ure for ever!!

  • i would go anywhere to hear him play again, in love w/him then and now...

  • 1;54 Today's fly by night stars should take note.

  • GREAT BAND! Better that U2 at the time!! Better than U2 now again come to think of it!

  • @1969atam tap the breaks on that comparison. they are NOT better than u2 at that time

  • @OralAgreement69 It's spelled 'brakes' lol.

  • Vienna is easily one of the greatest pop songs of all time. I'd love to see an Ultravox reunion. I'd even buy a ticket, though i don't usually go to concerts. ;))

  • Always thought that Midge looked a bit like the american actor Jack Cassidy in thie"Vienna" clip when it was a hit.

  • The '80's are difficult to embrace. I'm a bit embarrassed when I look back too, but when I look at pictures of myself trying my best to emulate the pencil 'stache and Capn' Kirk sideburns I can only smile. Vienna is like a pearl plucked from an ugly clam.

  • Is there any background information on this song available somewhere? Like personal perception of the song by ULTRAVOX, "drafting" history, reasons behind the title and the lyrics etc. Any help is much appreciated!

  • It's just really British that artists of huge accomplishments, as the iconic Vienna, feel embarrassed or worried about what British media of the time might think about them. I agree with all the others here, Midge is a genius musician! Saw them on stage a month ago. Really enjoyed it.

  • I loved you then, and I still love you now Midge. Great, great memories! Be very proud of what you've done.....there will never be another band like Ultravox again.

  • nothing wrong in being a slap head midge...thanks for the music

  • Midge, a fountain of talent. Saw his tour thru LA circa 2002, he even played the Band-Aid song! Also just a great guy.

  • To jest ponadczasowe. Uwielbiam ich

  • midge being embarrassed by an iconic song is jsut too funny. love you midge .

  • Mr. Ure, you should feel proud of the simple fact that you were part of something that had a TREMENDOUS impact of music. Without Ultravox, you wouldn't have half of the electronic music we enjoy today. Don't be modest, you deserve to revel in your accomplishments. Vienna alone is a major classic, much less the rest of your catalog. Much respect!

  • To Midge:

You have NO reason of being embarrased about anything. The ONLY reason for you being embarrased is, if you don't use your given talent in 'squashing' the new type of music that we are shuffed down our throats every time we want to listen to music. I guess that I 'speak' for the majority of viewers, so dear friend all I can say is this: Get yourselves together and release your work as you have done in the past. Believe me there are enough people who STILL love your music

  • great song from him.. it means something to me..

  • Midge you were a god to me. Had your music blasting out all the time Thanks. The 80's we didn't know how good they were. Start up the Quatro. haha.

  • Just in awe. Thanks for posting.

  • I cant believe its 30 years already. Because of 'Vienna" I became a big fan of ULTRAVOX. and because of Vienna I did upgrade my sound system 3 times... I can't remove the violin and piano notes from my brain till now

AMAZING... how some songs do such impression on us

  • Remasters are usually shit compared to the original versions.

  • Vienna is an amazing song which deserves to be no. 1. Ultravox and Midge Ure will go down in history as those who made a difference to this planet. My only request is that they start writing a lot more music. Guys you are certainly not too old to rock'n roll and you make me feel young again.

  • It seems like yesterday when I saw Midge, and got his autograph, at Schipol Airport, Amsterdam, all those years ago in 1980....still have it! Amazing guy, amazing group!

  • Is he Scottish? Love "Vienna" and some other Midge Ure renditions, but John Foxx is still my hero.

  • @musicaldogs

He is, he was born in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire. It's near Glasgow.

  • that's the first time i have heard 'vienna' and it is AMAZING!!!!!

thanks for making the world a more musical place, Midge

  • Arguably the best sub pop vocailist -- Midge Ure

  • Woo!I saw them 3 times when they re-toured.And i'm only a kid!

  • Folks. Go to "Matebloke" for High Def Astradyne and Funkstar124 for highlights from the Birmingham Gig. Excellent Sound also. What A GIG!!!

  • Thank you for the post. Always great fun to see decent people like midge still full of energy and ready to rehash

  • Seems like a real nice bloke....

  • "the core of what you do is what you create" - Midge Ure

Great words for all of us to live by.

  • These are the words of a true artist.

    Cheers!

  • Thank you so much, Midge Ure, for all the emotion.

Those two albums were and are magnificent. "Passing Strangers" was vital in my life.

Ultravox is one of the best band s ever. I hope there is a world tour. Sorry but 90% of the current bands don't shake me up. Please come back.

  • That guy is amazing..he was a boy-band-star with Slik and still is around, making music. Like him and his scotch accent :)

  • How great that he takes all the credit ... doesn't he remember that it was mr Foxx who started it all and in fact, Mr Midge was more instrumental in the boyband-of-the-day Slik ????

  • bloody hell Midge, where's yer hair gone.......

  • I suck for all of us to get old. :)

  • Yeah time goes by, time goes by too soon....

  • still have the originals. Great band. Might just have a sticky at the rereleases to see what they a like

  • Mascara for men? I am glad I missed that!

    Best period for music though!!

  • Yep, everything that johotrod said !

I was there also, really great night, posted some video

  • Attended the Roundhouse show last night...amazing! Midge's voice is as good as ever, the set was awesome, the band were dignified and inspiring. Ultravox MUST go on.

  • Amazing that ITN did a piece on this. I mean, I'm thrilled, and they're great albums, but a couple of 29 year old albums are perked up with a cardboard wraparound and a few b-sides and it's news? Great news for us! There must be a fan "on the inside".

  • You know that this was a classic, groundbreaking song; but everytime i hear it i think of Shaddapa Your Face by Joe Dolce which kept it from its rightful place at the top of the charts - that`s what you might call injustice in the extreme! Extreme Voice still remians.

  • You got it right there i always thought the same, but where is Joe Dolce now? We will always have the clasics!

  • time goes - time goes by too soon! 80s 4ever!

  • He has a great OUTLOOK and a true view of CAREER.

Are you all listeing to this? he is hopeful and leaves everything open, incredible gentileman.

  • got my tickets for Hammersmith next Month - can't wait!

  • Ive got my tickets for Newcastle gig....Ultravox origional line up....a dream come true after 20 years.Nice 1 boys.I know you wont let me down ,just more matured.

  • Vienna still makes the small hair lift all over my body. It's a true classic. SO STRONG::: THANKS UV

  • How could anyone who created something as magnificent as the Vienna album worry about there being something embarassing on it?!

Midge Ure - genius and all round nice guy!

  • AMEN!!! the first time I heard it I nearly fainted.

  • he's still good looking

  • He sure is...mmmmm

  • What for a great song but something is transitory, you know Midge?

  • whats losing your hair got to do with it?

  • fuck a few pounds....we need you!

  • it's not a job.. haha yeah

  • ultravox back on the road cant wait to see them live again next year

  • Genius Midge was afraid to find something in Vienna he could be embarassed about [!] that's what genius artists do, while crap singers are proud of the crap they call songs. Amazing, eh? Midge you can be proud of 'Vienna' after all those years, I'm sure all your fans think so! Lol!

  • going to see midge again next month, he is superb live, i would advise anyone to go and see him! and if anyone could help me get a copy of my fallen angel by midge, it would be amazing, thanks

  • Very clever musician. He's created some sonic masterpieces.

  • Sir Midge, PLEASE don't "retire" anytime soon!

  • Oh my goodness, I've just been informed of all this, this is just SO EXCITING, please please please guys, put any differences you may have ''once'' had an get the most FANTASTIC band back on stage AGAIN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!!!!! Big hello's to ''all'' fellow Ultravox fans, c'mon, lets all believe that the guys WILL want to reform & relive those WONDERFUL adrenaline packed days from our youth & the 1980's!!!!!

  • Get lost saddo!, if you belive that, why are you looking at this stuff about ultravox??

    Twonk !

  • reflecting on Jon Foxx, Twinky one.

  • This means nothing to me. This means nothing to me. Ooooooooohhhhhh reissues...............

  • uvox getting back together they still need warren caan which could be difficult due to the way he left!! the band but heres hoping anyway

  • I'd love to see the Midge Ure version of Ultravox get back together again, though I do wonder if there is still too much animosity between them? In my opinion it would HAVE to include Warren Caan, a truly pioneering man in terms of electronic rhythms. We can but hope! Now if they could also do a double re-union with John Foxx and Robin Simon as well that would double the pleasure!

  • not the most physical of drummers but made up for it with technical know how i think the foxx and simon thing has no chance of happening it will be hard enough getting warren back on board

  • ahhhh stilll cute and still a bloody nice guy!!! what more can you ask for?. I love that Rage in Eden is out remastered as well. Hi to Leggy lady!

    Cheers

    Carissa ( Cari )

  • LOL, Hi Cari!!!!

Will you be coming over if there's a reunion? I'll be there with bells on! ;)

  • EXCELLENT! Thankyou ITN!!!! ;)

  • This beautiful song was kept off the Number One slot for weeks by Joe Dolce's awful "Shaddup Your Face".

    Shameful!

  • Vienna is the best song Ever !!!!
