do you like doing this style on humbuckers or single coils? i would think the single coils with a compression sustainer would dominate sounds awesome by the way
hey man, awesome stuff ! one question: generally when you strum like that with your fingers, do you strum with three of them ? like index, middle, ring ? or what ?
would having low low action in this situation be a tonal disadvantage? I ask because it wouild seem having more room to slap the string would allow for deeper vibrations.
Does anybody know what type of strings he uses? 0.09? 0.10? 0.11? 0.12? i just want to know wich type works better for this technique------- great video ....funky
"...The brilliant Los Angeles guitarist and instructor Jean-Marc Belkadi has, as he's done with so many guitar approaches, refined dozens of cool ways to use pentatonics. One thing he likes his students to explore is stringskipping lines such as Ex. 12. And, as shown in Ex. 13, Belkadi often handles string skips the smart, convenient, hybrid way—by plucking the higher string with the picking hands middle finger..." page 93, March 09 Guitar Player Issue

I have his book and it's alot of fun! I love playing lead, but more than anything, I love locking into a groove with the rhythm section and staying in the pocket. That's where you really wanna be in my opinion. Your lead guitar skills will only be as strong as your rhythm guitar chops.
He gives you plenty of ideas to have fun with, so that you can really get those rhythm/percussive chops flowing. Good fun. Peace.
Weird thing is I saw one of his videos 2 days ago because i subscribe to iRawk, never heard of him, and by sheer coincidence I got his slap and pop book today!
It's good to find Jean-Marc again here on You Tube. He was my teacher over 10 years ago. I wish I would have really practiced more and gotten 1% as good as he is. Jean-Marc is one of the greatest guitarists in the world, definitely the best one I have ever known personally, and he is possibly the best guitar teacher anywhere. And what a sweet guy personality wise.
I'm trying to get into the style myself. Sounds awesome. Any suggestions on fairly popular bands/artists (should be something I can find in my local HMV store) where the guitarist uses a lot of slap and pop?
dude you're a badass. my jazz funk style is just like yours. i love jazz funk. i have a question though: how the heck are you getting such solid slaps (like the last 10 secs of your video)? it doesn't look like you're hitting them that hard. sick stuff.
