  • do you like doing this style on humbuckers or single coils? i would think the single coils with a compression sustainer would dominate sounds awesome by the way

  • más practica!

  • hey man, awesome stuff ! one question: generally when you strum like that with your fingers, do you strum with three of them ? like index, middle, ring ? or what ?

  • Question: can you do this without an electric acoustic?

  • awesome!!!...

  • It's really nice player!! god job!

    crazy slap!!!

  • Nice Technique!!!

  • how do u do this can anyone explain???

  • @xen0saga first you slap. once you've slapped, you pop. repeat this process until you're this guy.

  • MASTER!!!

  • I have a question about this slapping technique, where exactly do you have to slap the strings? And great playing by the way.

  • with the side of the thumb and the wist.

  • @HamburgerDuck you have to slap them at about where the neck ends

  • haha, ca-----li----fornia

  • Do you find this easier with thicker strings?

  • @imatube2 .10..46..works for me it allows me to shift betwen funk rock or jazz and still having a fat tone...!!!

Miyavi owns at the guitar :D

  • yup!

  • he owns at slap but not the guitar in general still i love him =D

  • Hell yeah, dude....

  • would having low low action in this situation be a tonal disadvantage? I ask because it wouild seem having more room to slap the string would allow for deeper vibrations.

  • Very cool ! And at the end it become very groovy !

Sad that it doesn't continue more. (sorry for my language)

  • Thats some very stylin playing! California hah :P

  • awesome

  • Does anybody know what type of strings he uses? 0.09? 0.10? 0.11? 0.12? i just want to know wich type works better for this technique------- great video ....funky

  • Pentatonic Pyrotechnics by Jude Gold

"...The brilliant Los Angeles guitarist and instructor Jean-Marc Belkadi has, as he's done with so many guitar approaches, refined dozens of cool ways to use pentatonics. One thing he likes his students to explore is stringskipping lines such as Ex. 12. And, as shown in Ex. 13, Belkadi often handles string skips the smart, convenient, hybrid way—by plucking the higher string with the picking hands middle finger..." page 93, March 09 Guitar Player Issue

  • Impressionnant!

  • That would have sounded AWESOME if the recording quality was better. As is, sounded sour. Still, 5-stars for the skills.

  • WHOA.

  • ur awsome

  • Terrible !

    Super classe !

  • awsome groove!

  • very nice

  • Check Jean Marc Belkadi's LATEST ARTICLE in the January 09 GUITAR PLAYER Magazine issue page 112: "Just when you think you've seen every possible tapping lick imaginable, Los Angeles guitar coach par excellence, Jean Marc Belkadi ..."

  • is he in jail?

u know his bass chops =

    2 thumbs-up

  • I have his book and it's alot of fun! I love playing lead, but more than anything, I love locking into a groove with the rhythm section and staying in the pocket. That's where you really wanna be in my opinion. Your lead guitar skills will only be as strong as your rhythm guitar chops.

He gives you plenty of ideas to have fun with, so that you can really get those rhythm/percussive chops flowing. Good fun. Peace.

  • Weird thing is I saw one of his videos 2 days ago because i subscribe to iRawk, never heard of him, and by sheer coincidence I got his slap and pop book today!

  • what guitar is that?

  • what guitar is that one?

  • intense skills :P

  • Awesome

  • insane. any1 know where i can find some of these chords??

  • On your guitar!!! Pff!

  • Pure genious.

just goes to show that not the bass players dont get all the fun.

  • best slap guitar player!!

  • do you know what prison he is in?

  • how the fuck would he have a guitar and 3 amps surrounding him if he was in prison...jesus christ

  • yeah like ive never heard of prison allowing guitars and amps inside.ive a prison allows it i wouldnt mind spending my time there lol.

  • LOOOOOLL HORNY FORNIA NICE ONE

  • GROZZO BROTHER!!!!!

  • Awesome playing.

Is this a modified version of Summertime? Also, do use a thicker gauge string for a more percussive sound?

  • 1:12 was my fav! this is awsesome!

  • Fuckin sick...I wish I could love my guitar that much haha, massive Feeling ftw my man, awesome job.

  • awesome!

  • great!!!!

  • HOW DID u HOLD ur PICK??!

  • I LOVE IT!!

  • Damn that was sick!

  • It's nice to have built in soul , you play like it's so easy, great job dude !!!

  • It's good to find Jean-Marc again here on You Tube. He was my teacher over 10 years ago. I wish I would have really practiced more and gotten 1% as good as he is. Jean-Marc is one of the greatest guitarists in the world, definitely the best one I have ever known personally, and he is possibly the best guitar teacher anywhere. And what a sweet guy personality wise.

  • His name is Jean Marc Belkadi... used to be one of the guitar instructer when i was in M.I...maybe still

  • it is Comin home baby

  • far out.

  • is nice, does sound like 'coming home!!'

  • Nice

  • wow you are god men

  • I'm trying to get into the style myself. Sounds awesome. Any suggestions on fairly popular bands/artists (should be something I can find in my local HMV store) where the guitarist uses a lot of slap and pop?

  • Gran guitarrista. Saludos desde España.

  • dude you're a badass. my jazz funk style is just like yours. i love jazz funk. i have a question though: how the heck are you getting such solid slaps (like the last 10 secs of your video)? it doesn't look like you're hitting them that hard. sick stuff.

  • dude nice i like when u slap like on a bass lol

  • This guy is the man! you should see him and Earnst Homeyer tearing it up at MI during their free time. Its amazing the thing that they can do

  • if i didn't know better i would think it was a guitar AND bass jam.

  • It sounds like comin' home baby...

  • Aww, I have to pay to get tabs to this ? :(

  • amazing, I'm learning this technique and i know how difficult it is

  • The upcoming December 06 Guitar Player has a Master Class on Slap and Pop. "Spank" by Jude Gold. Jude Gold refers to my book Slap and Pop Technique for Guitar page 119

  • that was a great issue. thanks for posting this.
