Seriously, how can you drive so well at this damn track? It's making me mad. I'm trying the campaign now on elite, it was a pain to beat this track on flash class, now I have to beat on the 6th tier of events on rapier and I'm not even close :( If I use pilot assist it doesn't help much, I used the auto pilot on 2 corners and it was MUCH faster than me, so I ask, how should I use the air brake on the tight right hander? It seems to make me slower, should I only tap? Hold? Double tap???

Because Goteki45 has lower handling then usual, I hold the airbrake during the turn and sideshift on the exit to gain enough height to do a barrel roll.

Autopilot is indeed faster than any human driver can be on the portion of track on which I use it.

I have a video featured on my channel made by someone else. That video has many tips in it, but the person who made it also has video guides for every track in the game with detailed help on how to drive on them. You should check him out.

IDK why but auto pilot (on the PSP version) would always end in screwing me over by me getting close and personal with a wall. That being said its good for reviving my energy.

I love the Sol 2 track (easily the best track in all of wipEout), but give me a Harimau craft any day. I can't seem to even stay competitive with the AI with those tank rigs (i.e., Goteki 45 and Triakis). How you managed to do that with one of those lumbering monstrosities is beyond me.

@32MadMike32 Goteki 45 isn't a tank, silly! It's nimble, has good handling and the highest thrust rating. The two tanks, I'd say, are Auricom and Triakis.

Good racing, by the way. I can't seem to beat the elite phantom AI on this track.

I'm sorry that you're not finding this game to your taste. :(

It is indeed hard to master and quite challenging, but practice means eventual success.

You can try different types of events in the campaign or in the racebox (instead of jumping immediately online like many and being confused. I'm just saying that in case you are too.)

The fan website WipEoutZone is a good place to get some nice tips from experienced players too. It's also a great place for friendly competitions.

I've now turned off pilot assist and have moved up to Rapier speed. Phantom still scares me shitless but man this is such a polished racing game! Very intense.

@majinshenmue ..ya, its pretty, but plays like crap. the "detonator" levels are fun and the controls are alot better on those. if you dont expect too much its not as bad. playability wise it doesnt hold a candle to some of the other wipeout games. Atleast they named it right..lmao. Because "fury" is what many will experience while playing this game.

Only the interface during gameplay, but you can choose between the WipEout HD one (seen here), a Wip3out like one, or a WipeOut 2097 like one according to your preferences. You can change HUD styles in the options on the main menu (Or is it the extras section, I can't remember.)

best thing about wipeout since 1996, you NEVER EVER get time to rest. Even when paying Grand Tourismo u can kind of zone out on a straightaway or a turn but u never get that chance in wipeout. Even when you're in 1st pace.

I actually find Triakis and Piranha more pleasing to fly than the AG-Sys or Icaras you always see in tourneys. Mainly because of high top speed and shields and lots of weight to throw around, so that you don't need to worry about weapons or opportunistic bastards. Other than that, I tend to fly Qirex, which are classic. Though I liked them even better when they still stuck to the 'purple brick' philosophy...

The pilot drives, not the ship.

Ships are balanced, use the one you prefer.

You like fast responsive ships? Look for high handling.

You don't like over-steering? Look for low handling.

Like to be the first off the starting grid? Look for high thrust.

Want to be the best in endurance? Look for high speed.

It's all up to you. Any ship can win any race.

@Darkdrium777 completely agreed. I haven't played HD but i know in Pulse i prefer Piranha for the high speed, good thrust, and solid handling (no oversteer). Only problem is constantly having to slow down on hard turns

When you drive without pilot assist your ship goes faster?

Your thrust (the little blue meter on top of the speed display) is limited to 90% when you use Pilot Assist. It is uncapped if you remove it (That is, the full power of the engine is made available.)

Also you cannot drive as closely to the walls inside of turns due to the automatic repulsion system.

Also yes that was rank 4 at the time. It's been beaten fairly well since then obviously.

There is not any best ship statistically. However, there is a best ship for you.

What that means is that every ship drives differently, has a different feel. You may like fast, twitchy handling, for this I recommend going somewhere near Feisar, AG-Systems, or etc. If you like less jumpy, like me, there is Goteki, Qirex, Triakis, etc. Then the thrust is a matter of preference, I choose Goteki because I like to recover quickly from hits and crashes, and be off the start line in no time.

They're all French for the most part. Leungbok, pirhrapac, Wotan are among the best of the best at Speed Lap. You've got ProblemSolver for Zone, but overall way too many people. You should check out wipeoutzone if you want to see "everyone" :p

I use D-Pad and motion pitch.

Using the Wip3out HUD or WipeOut 2097/XL HUD is possible by going in the options, somewhere (forgive me, I can't remember the exact location)

It depends on the corner. Some require just tapping, some require holding down both airbrake and direction, and some corners like the one after the two speed pads and before the cat mascot on Ubermall, where I use only the airbrake for the right hander.

You'll find your way of piloting through practise :) I'm sure some people have totally different (nothing in common, not even one bit) racing techniques than I.
