am maybe some one can help me a bit? my grandmother sad that grandfather at the time of the war moved to the brussels and at the year 1994 came to back latvia country where i live. he tried search for her but her jealous and with schizophrenia sick sister told him that Aija my grand mother was dead so he went back to the belgium. and died 2 years later. wherever! i am trying to somehow contact mischa maisky becose he know philliphe born and grow in latvia also but i cant get his e-mail.
Let me comment maisky's words about perfection.I dont agree with him when he says perfection is 'unreachable',i simply believe that there's no such thing, indeed that it MAKES NO SENSE-neither logical nor semantic.Running 100 mts can get 'perfect':supposing one reaches the speed of light. But in Art and music interpretation there are too many variables-and most of them are subjective
I'm very glad to watch a performance of Philippe Hirshhorn for the first time. He suppressed Stoika Milanova and Gidon Kremer and won the 1st place in 1967 Elisabeth Concours. Karajan planned costarring with Philippe, but Philippe canceled it. Yuko Shiokawa (later she married Andras Schiff) played Brahms's Violin Concerto in place of him. Japanese Conductor Hiroyuki Iwaki (1932-2006) conduct with Philippe on this video.
I've read many comments about how violinists play and how they are compared with notable violinist like Heifetz. In my opinion, there shouldn't be any comparison at all among violinist. However, if you still want to compare styles, I would say that it's better to leave Heifetz where he is, and start making comparisons newer and higher standards, for example, L. Kavakos. In my opinion, Kavakos surpasses Heifetz's technique in many ways. But as I said before. This is only a matter of abstraction.
Agree. would i sound predictable if i said there should be a couple of names placed a tiny bit higher than heifetz in the olympus of the violin ? ....such as.. the 'mighty' KOGAN
At 3:01 it sounded like he said that Phillipe had some problem with Smurfs. I too had problem with Smurfs. It was a horrible show...what? What's that? Oh...sorry.. My wife just told me that it isn't a problem with Smurfs... It is a problem with nerves! Sorry... My bad!
Philippe Hirshhorn is one the best but underrated violinist I've seen and heard. Unfortunately, we did not hear much from him, in terms of recordings. I heard that he was a perfectionist. He didn't think that he was good enough. Footages of his performances are very hard to find indeed. So this video clip is a TREAT. Thank you for posting. This is very much appreciated. If you have more from this documentary, I would appreciate if you could post more of this on YouTube. Thanks again.
