All HBO (Supre High Pressure Mercury) lamps are a categorized at ME lamps type lamps. They operate above 100 watts centimetre of arc Length. It looks like your Russian special lamps has an external ignitor. If your lamp has a /D indicator, that means it is suppose to burn vertical with Anode at the top. By looking at different manufactures design like Osram for HBO lamps, even AC current should be mounted in the up position.

This is not HBO lamp, it is special Russian lamp ДРШ-250, designed to work in AC. This lamp is wide spectrum (used in microscope), UV and visible light.

I didn't find any information about working position of the lamp in manual.

@savelkaunas Hey Savelkaunas this has to be a HBO lamp. HBO which stand for H for Hg or mercury; B is the symbol for luminance; O for unforced cooling, are all Short are Mercury Discharge lamps. The 250 Watt HBO lamp that you have is used for electro-optics because it spread a strong amount of UV light 90 degrees in both direction. The first lamp, which is a 150 watt is a Ultra High Pressure lamp, used in Projector lamps. It can attain up to 200 Atm of pressure at full brightness.

I am guessing you know that your HBO lamps is pure quartz glass? I hope you know that you High Pressure Lamp is producing some ozone while it is building up pressure, and producing 100 percent (RSP) at 365nm? Almost 50 percent of that is 325-350nm. And High pressure HG (HBO) lamps are suppose to run on DC control gear while operating Vertical with anode at top. But great video though. :)

It is not right. Many lamps this type works at A.C., operational mode maybe universal. Ballast is what do you want around (or under) described wattage, with ignitor for metal halide, or sodium lamps. If do you want educate others, do you must to know much more
