In the early 90's, I was a foreign student in Japan. I remember the news of Ozaki's sudden death in 92', but that time I didn't know too much about his music.

This is a cover of the late Ozaki Yutaka's song "I Love You" which was released in 1991.

I can assure you the 3 chord sequence in question here is a very popular progression on guitar. The Fratellis weren't the first to use it and they won't be the last.
