I saw Billy Idol last night at the rivera theater,(chicago, il) and Steve Stevens is awesome! Slash came out to play one tune with them and Steve had to hold back only for him. After Slash left, Steve took over again, He could have done the whole show all by himself. And Billy was good too, Great show, Very cool.
Seriously, this guy could possibly be one of the most underated guitarists out there. Great feel, maybe not a shred your head off guitarist but really i have to struggle to find anything on him and he was really a great great player.
ummm....wake up call....older women are looking better than ever and having l;oads of great sex.....with younger men. This aint yer grandmas generation, folks.
Everyone criticising Steve Stevens is obviously intimidated by him or feel threatened. Well, i should say he threatens the 'importance' of the guitarists they worship. Which is really odd. I guess its because he is a quiet guy and little is ever said of him which is why people call him "underrated". Seems odd to seek out his videos on youtube only to say that he isnt very good. Its like me searching out a rarely mentioned artist or actor and taking the time to insult them. Whats the point?
Maybe Slash's mom made costumes for some record exec? Hell I don't know?? One thing I do know is that it's ridiculous to argue about who's a better guitarist (because it's subjective) and it's even more ridiculous to argue on the internet. I must say, look at some of this guys tutorials, he's actually good!? Is it Hendrix? F-NO, but it's still o.k. and even I need a break from listening to SRV and Hendrix all the time.
Steve Stevens playing Voodoo Child on youtube. An old clip. Search youtube for 'Steve Stevens Voodo' - they spelled Voodoo wrong. And watch him play your precious Hendrix.
@ emotionalinvalid Slash's mom got him into the biz? His mom made costumes. Do your research before saying something that stupid. That is ridiculous. She also probably recorded all his parts on Appetite also....
don't care for his 'personna' but this guy would be up there with hendrix, jeff beck, zep's j page, dickey betts, clapton(early days), john mcgloughlin(sp?)et al, but stevens lacks 'soul'. part of being soulful: playin sloppy and slower sometimes:nuance.
And no, i don't even think of Slash as being in the top 37,327 guitar players, cause his momma got him into the music business....case closed, bang goes the gavel, i'm right, your wrong, i win you lose, etcetera ad infinitum.....
Agreed. I can barely watch guys like this. He may or may not be a great player. Can't tell from this. Honestly, I reserve judgement as far as his playing goes. Nothing here is very difficult to play, but beyond that, the guy impresses me as a typical L.A. dick.
Check him out with the Vince Neal Project, Atomic Playboys, his Flamenco Videos....it all smokes....hear him jackin' the knobs on his delays and mods in the middle of a solo....the guy is a radical phenom !!!
@zamardii12 and you know why is that, sucker? because he is on the stage and fucking rocks and you are sitting in front of your computer all day or most of the time.
His breath, his lungs. Some old school rockers actually live and breathe the lifestyle instead of just trashing the occasional hotel room or making the occasional 'controversial' comment when their publicists tell them to.
hey, fuck you, why do you care if he smokes? he's a great guitar player, he can shoot heroin in his dick if he wants to, why should you, me or anybody care about that?
OK guys . . . Holy cow . . . go smoke yourselves to death . . . I like this guy too . . . though he needs a pic to sound fast . . . sorta like smoke & mirrors . . . wops . . . there I go again. Good god . . . calm down . . . by the way . . . has anybody received their mule and 40ac from Obama yet? Still wait'n for mine . .
Anybody remember Steve Stevens on Michael Jackson's "Dirty Diana" he made that song totally! Check it out,he is one of the greatest I've ever heard with such a broad spectrum of stlyes of playing, check out Billy Idol w/Steve.I think he could make any song #1 by just playing with the singer! LOVE HIM!!
please elaborate, dont just say WRONG . . I've seen several pieces of footage showing jennifer Batten playing Dirty Diana. . not least the main one being the video for the song. . .
And all you have to do is google "Steve Stevens + Dirty Diana" to see that he wrote and recorded the song. Steve said in an interview how Michael was a super perfectionist and how he got the phonecall asking him to write with him, hearing Michaels timid voice down the phone.
I dont need glasses, Steve is visible in the video with black hair, and Jennifer Batten is visible with Blonde hair. Stevens plays on the recording, and Batten played it live on the "Bad" and "Dangerous" tours. . . try googling "dirty diana jennifer batten" . . . It's worth noting that when Billy Idol began to gain popularity in the late 70s with Gen X, he called Led Zeppelin tired "old farts", yet today Steve Stevens, while on tour with Idol, inserts some Zeppelin in his guitar solos. Good example of how people can grow to appreciate something that they perhaps disliked at one time. Good show to Misters Idol and Stevens!
bah! this guy doesnt need to play as fast as he can to show his skills...malmsteen is all speed speed and speed, which is not badm but its just not my style
i know a lot abot malmsteen...after hearing him one week you can memorize all of his patterns...he has a very nice sense of theory...but he uses more to impress than to create something memorable
He just run his fingers beyond the 22nd fret..He wasn't hiding anything - it's called SHOWMANSHIP !! It sounds impressive to regular fans, who cares about what guitar heads wanna see ? Study Flemenco, Rock n Roll, Jazz, Metal and Punk then blend it into a style of your own..at any point in the process if you lack creativity it is game over !! Steve has that creativity

anyone who thinks Steve is using a digital delay etc, are dead wrong. I have seen him perform this solo piece 2 times and he has an amazing right hand picking technique. He always says in interviews that his influences for this style are Al DiMeola John McLaughlin. There are no tricks here, just pure incredible picking.
uhhhhh ...... sorry charlie. There's so much reverb in this you could float the titanic. It takes nothing away from him being a fantastic player, but Steve would tell you the same thing
