statistics regarding People who identify themselves as christian usually go in cycles. In 2008 It was 77% and currently it's at least 80 percent. People in ages 18-29 tend to be Liberal while people are are ages 30-49 tend to be conservative. There is a good solid majority of conservatives in America right now and I think Christianity will be around for a little while

The country seems evenly divided imho, with conservatives disproportionately comprised of those aged 65 and older and white. Those 65 and older tend to leave the voting pool sooner than other voters, and whites are rapidly losing majority status.

According to their 1994 ruling, the government cannot endorse religion of any kind, nor are they allowed to place it above secularism in importance.

Once again. I am a Catholic who supports Gay Rights actively. Both in protests and activities around my city and by annually supporting the Human Rights Campaign. If you would rather I DON'T do this things because I'm clearly an "intolerant" Christian and would much prefer that I am my friends like me "fuck off." Just say the word. I'm sure my little brother and best friend (who are also gay) would REALLY appreciate your help.

statistics regarding People who identify themselves as christian usually go in cycles. In 2008 It was 77% and currently it's at least 80 percent. People in ages 18-29 tend to be Liberal while people are are ages 30-49 tend to be conservative. There is a good solid majority of conservatives in America right now and I think Christianity will be around for a little while

I'm not sure I agree with your assessment of a "good solid majority of conservatives" either. The country seems evenly divided imho, with conservatives disproportionately comprised of those aged 65 and older and white. Those 65 and older tend to leave the voting pool sooner than other voters, and whites are rapidly losing majority status.

The Bible is irrelevant to this topic. Practice whatever religious beliefs you want, but you cannot force other people to abide by them.
BTW- the Bible also condemns the eating of shellfish, the planting of multiple crops in one field, and haircuts. This can all be found in Leviticus. Something tells me that you're cherry picking your beliefs.

Enough sparring on the Separation of Church and States. The Supreme Court has already ruled on the matter, and yes, there is indeed a total separation. According to their 1994 ruling, the government cannot endorse religion of any kind, nor are they allowed to place it above secularism in importance.

Amanda, you're a moron. We live in a constitutional republic, with representation. We elect politicians to make the law for us, we do not get to vote directly on the laws ourselves. Take a basic 8th grade civics class. This is not a direct democracy, such as ancient Greece.
And no, you should not have the right to vote on other people's lives. You would basically be holding a public vote on whether or not you wanted to discriminate against gay couples. Sorry, no cigar, baby.

again, you are trying to make this a religious issue and distracting from the issue which is stated in the constitution xix; rights of citizens of the us to vote shall not be denied. dc has electors pushing their own agendas. about religion and constituion, there is nothing in the constitution that speifically says that there is a wall of separation between religion and government. gay marriage is not a right, merry christmas.

@amanda601 No equality is the right, restricting of achieving the status of marriage is where the violation of rights comes in, just as No atheist group can pass laws removing your religious protections as it would be unconstitutional. Marriage becomes a right when legal benefits are attached to it, and handing them to particular groups based on menial traits such as sexuality is pretty pathetic in the land of free.

I am surprised that in these 5 states no one has demanded that our dictionaries now must redefine the definition of marriage.
Email those dictionary publishers and demand a new definition. The old definition of marriage no longer exists in 5 of our states.
If publishers of dictionaries refuse to support the new definition of marriage within these 5 states the dictionary will be a discriminating reference.

Actually all contemporary dictionaries I can think of--Websters, Oxford American, wiki, Black's Law Dictionary etc etc--include same sex marriage in some way in their definition, regardless of the legal status of ssm where the dictionary was purchased, published, written etc.
So no need to petition publishers. They're already on that page, so to speak. Thanks anyway.

I laugh when people say that gay marriage leads to polygamy, incest, beastiality and other stuff. Its so damn obvious! Gay marriage fits perfect into the civil structure of marriage, which is a legal system in which two parties are recieving benefits such as tax cuts, joint home ownership, visitation rights etc. When you look at civil marriage, cut the fat out and get to the core, THATS WHAT IT IS! polygamy would undo that structure.

This is the issue. Marriage should only happen in religous groups that accept it. Removing it from the government will remove the divorce rate. If a blanket policy went into effect, it would preserve the spiritual marriage and protect people as a whole. This is what would be best.

Exactly, Ben. The fact of the matter, people, is this: America is a constitutional republic, not a direct democracy. This will most likely be legalized via the court system, and is already on it's way to the SCOTUS with the best attorneys America can offer. I bet hard money on nationwide gay marriage within the next 5-10 years.

@BenJEMean See, this is the biggest problem. You assume we're predjudice when our actual goal is to maintain in the church, that which belongs in the church. Marriage became cultrual based on the religion. When people stopped practicing the religion, they took marriage with them.
We look to maintain the sanctity of marriage and the word itself. We love the sinner and hate the sin. That's not bigoted.
