  • Un grande cantante, voce e musica!!!. Mi piache molto!!!

  • thank you for posting. stunning.

  • I have only recently become a fan of Gigli and this and Amarilli are my favourites , thank you for uploading . A friend was listening to him and I asked who it was and I am ashamed to say I had never heard of him but my response was " this guy is better than Pavarotti"

  • @tavam55 If you spend some time on YT you'll discover that there are hundreds of tenors better than Pavarotti - especially pre-War.

  • THE BEST NADIR!

  • today i listened to a cd with arias and songs sung by a few great tenors of the past (like Caruso or Tauber and others ) and i didnt know when i was listening who is who. and every time i said to myself THAT one (aria , song) is so beautiful and every time I looked at the booklet and it said every time "Benjamino Gigli". a blessed voice is this.

  • An incredibly velvet voice. Nobody has ever sung this aria with such depth and beauty. Thank you so much for uploading.

  • We are all fishers of pearls.

    Sublime, sublime.

  • A Most Superior Delivery

  • The best "Í"!

  • sublime beauty. i am in love

  • thank you for this wonderful christmas/ new year's present- lost my copy of this record in a house fire nearly 20 years ago- you've given me back an old friend.

  • I adore this recording. I remember my mother going out to Manchester one night in order to hear Gigli singing. She loved the concert, but reported back to us children that he rocked on his toes when singing the high notes, and this made his shoes squeak.

  • @Bedi99

he could jump all the time, the voice is incredible

  • Ive had this same recording from our families collection

since childhood, it's a must for all students and lovers of

    the art of singing.

Thank you for your fine taste.

  • sublime mezzavoce,interpretazione insuperabile ! immortale ! merrihew , grazie !

  • Every time I hear a Gigli recording I think I'm never going to hear anything more beautiful.

    Then I hear another one......

    Stunning, marvellous, perfect.

  • es la perfeccion!!!!!!!!!

  • Absolutely divine. Sublime.

  • I love Gigli very much and I always thought his recording was exceptionally elegant compared to others.

  • Thank you again... I will never loose your music present - since my childhood I've dream about theses pearls in life and the fishers we are. Sometimes, so seldom we meet, the pearlsls and the fishers.

  • Magical. Such a little known opera

  • Meolacat,

This opera is very popular in the Netherlands. Every year you can see it on stage ! In the 30 ies we had an Italian tenore named Luigi Fort, who made this opera a great hit at the Italian Opera of The Haque. Fort had not the unearth sweet voice of this Beniamino Gigli, but he was much admired in this country. I have an LP of his interpretations. Very rare.

    Hans NL.

  • Thank you the recording is beautiful.

  • @qklq42 would you think of uploading that here?

  • I will give it a try !

  • Two master of this aria are

    mr Gigli And Mr Geddan

  • Che voce e che delicatezza di espressione. Sublime.

  • gigle is the best version of this aria

  • Comment removed

  • My voice teacher played Gigli for me and I fell in love with his voice. It is absolutely beautiful and he takes chances that I wish the singers of today would take. Just amazing....

  • I have the 1925 version, which is poorer audio quality, but also extremely haunting. Both are magnificent.

  • He is singing this masterpiece with very little energy and totally out of standards, but it sounds fenomenal. That"s Gigli

  • Gloria Absoluta. Majestic

  • I heard this piece in the 70's as a 5 year old and have never forgotten the beauty of it, thank you for putting this perfect interpretation on here. Magnifique.

  • Simply beautiful. Everything.

  • Zbigniew Wspaniały głos,wspaniała wokaliza.

  • "wspaniałe masło maślane"

  • Gigli had a unique voice. He had diction, phrasing, passion he had it all. He could

    make you cry.

  • Well said.

  • meraviglioso, superlativo.

  • gigli immenso

  • ASSOLUTAMENTE UNICOOOO!

    Ankhsnammon

  • Just about to cry. The music I love and the perfect scenary

    Thank you for this moment!

  • Man, that copy is in great shape, can hardly hear the background. I love this aria and the duet from the same opera.

  • The sweet and powerful what a great combiation!

  • Wonderful. Also liked Sergei Lemeshev's version in Russian.

  • As smooth as it gets. Every young student who wants to learn to sing tenor should be made to listen to this---multiple times. If a young person sings this way, the voice will grown on its own, and it will remain always healty. This is arguably the most beautiful tenor voice of all time.

  • I couldn't agree more.

  • one question..where did you fined this machine??it is crazy!!!i love it

  • What a stunning voice...thank you for this very nice video!

  • Thank you so much. Heavenly Gigli

  • Thanks for posting, really really beautiful!!

  • What key is this in? It's not in the key that's popularly performed now.

  • They perform it lower!

  • very nice, beautifull, thank you

  • Thanks a lot Merrihew for posting this treasure. The more we argue about tenors the more we disagree. But I think that there should be consensus that Gigli had the greatest Mezzo voice ever.

  • I don't disagree. My only problem is the fairly early onset of sloppiness in his technique. Not a problem with some material, but check out his Il Mio Tesoro which I will post as a request. Its the worst version I've ever heard.

  • Not only Gigli but also Schipa made a hash of Il mio tesoro. McCormack (for sheer vocal perfection) and Tauber (for characterisation) are the ones to have!

  • wow!

  • Gigli's recording brings back such memories. Many tenors recorded it,,,most of them very good. Many thanks, as always, for posting.

  • Beautiful singing...makes me think Paul Groves inspired his version of the french lyrics in this one. U can find it here on you tube, but its the french je crois entendre encore.

  • T_T... T_T... T_T precioso

  • Caruso,McCormack Gigli-they are all three sensational. They are also all quite different,so it comes down to a simple preference of the style.Performance wise-I would not even dare to compare on these treasures for an eternity!

  • The most beautifull tenor aria in the most impresive interpretation! I have to disapoint Caruso,Mc Cormack and even pavaroti's admirors but Gigli is single for ever!

  • Örömmel fedeztem fel, a csodás dalt, amit a barátaimmal is megosztok.

  • I havent heard Carusos version, but gigli is heartbreaking as always, what a beautiful aria whats its name??

  • It's the best version of Je crois entendre encore from Les Pecheurs de Perles

  • Yes this is very good, but not as wonderfull as the 1903 Caruso recording..

  • Nor is it as good as the John McCormack recording

  • Yes, I agree. Caruso's is the best version. But there are not so many recordings of this aria, are they? And in generally, the opera is not so often performed anymore. Am I wrong?

  • Well, I suppose you can just google to find out, though I have seen it in London recently. But no, it may not be performed like Bizets Carmen, for example.

  • see also Leonid's Sobinov's(1872-1934) russian version,it is absolutely perfect.

  • I've already posted it.

  • Che bella voce! Gigli had a wonderful lyric tenor voice. If anyone listening to this Bizet aria has a recording of the beautiful baritone/tenor duet from this opera made by Gigli and DeLuca in the late 20's,please post it. It is superb. Grazie mille for posting this one also.

  • That's great!!!Does anybody have La Paloma or Mamma?

  • I agree with kspm01...really superb!

  • I share opinion: it IS beautiful singing.

  • Beautiful. Thank you.

  • And another superb Gigli recording!
