@Hannoi Thats only because they haven't widened the roads to cope with modern traffic. Parts of the M25 around London are 6 lanes in each direction to deal with the traffic flows. Just remember, most of the stuff you buy in supermarkets are brought in from massive food production plants so they can be sold at a cheap price by trucks. No trucks on the road, no food on your table, or if you do, it will be much more expensive and you won't afford the fuel to have a joyride on the autobahn

I think, this is because of sunday drivers, who generally can't reach an acceptable speed and an acceptable attitude for the faster drivers, not speaking even about the situation when a police or ambulance car really need to hurry. The result? Truckers sucks. I also understand is forbidden daytime outside the motorways but at motorways i think could go easily and at least during the night.

italy/france/spain[parts of]/portugal also.

they do allow perishable fridge freight to travel but not frozen.

not sure about eastern bloc countries,but they have weekend bans in place as well.

the principle behind germanys ban is.

as there is no industry on sunday,theres no need for road transport.

This is one of the strangest laws I've heard about. you'd think truck companies dealing with Germany would plan this out a little better so as not to burden Germany's neighbors.

Aren't there Truck Stops just off the motorway they could park instead?

Are you serious (about the rule?) That is the strangest rule I have ever heard! Why would someone forbid certain traffic on holidays? What type of government would do that and for what benefit?

In Australia, that would cripple our economy if we banned truck traffic on certain days (but considering the size of my country, transport is critical to so many things and distances for moving goods are huge).
