@DarkSamuraiX1989 I think there's definitely potential in developing a feasible control system because you could expand that as a base to another platform. Like DarkSamuraiX1989 proposed having a peripheral the size of a medium tablet that could plug into, say, different systems (zomg cross platform!) would be a crazy-insane base to jump off of. Then again, specialty controllers can sometimes sink, a la Steel Battalion/Tekki (which I have and still love lol)
@funnguns Never say Never :-) I 'never' thought I'd make it back to Japan and then in the last 7 years I've gone 8 times heh. My friend thought he'd 'never' live in Japan and now he's a liaison between a few US/Japan sister companies :-) Never say Never because that's an awfully long time.
I already have cards and if a player doesn't want to use a certain type they'll give it to you, so this like 30 year old guy smokinggave me a super rare fish water creature... its special swaps it out with another creature... it looks awesome. My lil bro uses the demons.
@Ragmesesis There used to be rumors that Square-Enix was considering bringing it home for home play but I guess the idea was scrapped; the controller was a large surface-scan plate like the arcade screen and super expensive, on top of that I heard they weren't sure how to go about getting cards to players like how the arcade machine disseminates them out 1 per play; why play in the arcade when you can play at home and buy cards?
Still I'd love to see a home version...one day maybe?
@cobaltplasma dude they would make a killing by selling teh cards in booster packs, it can be easily done. and to lower prices, make the electronic scanner thing for the cards the size of a large wacom intuos 4 tablet (best size comparison i can come up with for loading out your cards) it doesn't have to be UBER huge. that size is enough for 2 people to duke it out. you would either hook it up via usb on 360, wii, or ps3. or use them wirelessly. 2 tablets: 4 players maximum. problem slolved
@DarkSamuraiX1989 Yeah that's something I'd *really really really* love to see and I think it could be very feasible. One thing I realized through testing though is that I think the cards are recognized via some visual recognition device and not RFID like I thought; might be a combination of both, but I think it's more visual than anything. I could see them making a smaller scale system to differentiate the arcade and home versions... whatever they do would make me happy ;-)
@DarkAngelROOM Yeah it's a bit of a bummer that a majority of gaming tends to happen at home now, there's something about the social-ness of the arcade scene that I still yearn for. Ah well... :-)
i've been to the taito station in shinjuku several time only watching kids play the LoV2 game and couldn't understand what each button ment to do or how to decide which character will have a special or overkill... not to mention the pros and cons of each character...
@Shoseijutsu I have some experience with JPN games, so I know some basic kanji/words that show up in games like bougyo/defense, kougeki/attack, etc. which helped figure out what did what. That and I just jumped right in, I'm fairly decent at figuring out gaming systems out... big red button does something, blue says 'sacrifice' (in LoV1), trial and error with some things I didn't understand.
this game looks realy cool. i was blown away by the awesome art, and i would love to try this game. i hope it comes to america... particularily cali cuz thats where i live lol. jealous X)
@DaBeS94 : You buy an initial starter 'deck' which is composed of a main player card, a NESYS system card (keeps track of your character/card stats), and 4 basic summon cards. For each game you play, win or lose, you get a random card in a sealed booster pack. The cards in this video are of the Version 1 starter cards, it was my very first game ever ^_^ I'll be uploading a couple games from Version 2 that I played this past trip, although one got cut off since the attendent caught us haha :)
I'm glad everyone's enjoying the video, and the game for those lucky folks who got to try it ^_^ I'm heading back to Japan for a couple weeks in May, most likely I will have a bit of Lord of Vermilion II footage upon my return.
The Japanese arcade scene is fairly different from the US in that games start at 100¥ (about $1.00-$1.10) for 1 play of a game. 500¥ for 2 plays on a game where you get 2 keepsakes, or in this case 2 more additions to your arsenal heh, is pretty a-okay in my book :-)
Man, I was in Japan this Summer and player a lot Lord Of vermillion, I like it so much that I bought every card so now I have the complete collection, just 3 Promo Cards left that I'm triying to buy throw internet!
Looks like you just popped the cherry on a brand new starter pack. It sure is fun :) I got me a super rare finally, traded it for another super rare. I just wish they had more variety of cards in Akihabara for sale. The most expensive thing there was a Lamia. I have too many people who can't speak English that want mine...
Man,how I WISH they have this machine in Malaysia.All the arcades here are full of race car driver wannabes playing initial D and Midnight Maximum Tune. I have ntg against those games, but c;mon..we're talking abt the next evolution in card battles here, ppl!
Unfortunately the game probably wouldn't even stand a chance in America, mainly because of the dead arcades, and because everyone plays Magic, or Yu-Gi-Oh! anyways (Nobody pays attention to Pokemon TCG either unfortunately, which is a very good card battle game in its own right D= )
Snap, a sequel's already coming out? o_O I'll have to look into that.
It'd be kinda cool if they released the cards in America, and came out with a console version that lets one use the cards in the same manner as the arcade version... It'd definitely be another reason for me to waste some money on cards AND games xD But I unfortunately don't see that happening at all...
Before you say that, the game is quite expensive to play. 500yen (RM20) for a starter pack which has your NESYS (Player data) card, and 6 creature (familiar) cards with plastic cases, and a small manual. Each play costs 200yen (RM8) and continues are 100yen (RM3.50), but you get a random card after each play. So you have to play a LOT to get the good stuff... LOTS and LOTS of money... But it's damn fun yes...
Really wana try this. Thinking of buying a cheap card set on YJ, but do I have to keep in mind what version they are for? Says "ver. 1" and "ver. 1.1" on a few :S
Version 1 cards on up are still usable, they haven't phased any out, just added more and more to the set (I think the current one is 1.3, 1.1 and 1.2 came out some time last fall/winter IIRC). Heck, half the cards I brought back with me were from the first set, and a couple of the commons are still staples in some deck set ups, i.e. the Succubus.
If anyone gets a PR Succubus and wants to part with it, let me know haha!
Lord of Yugioh Vermillion ;-) Quick holography isn't terribly far away, they can do that now it's just not as cost effective to put in a video game...but when it does...hooooooo boy ;-)
Not that I know of, I don't think Square-Enix has any plans to bring it here since it's a niche market they're going for. I hope so, heh, but I doubt it... -_-
It was surprisngly fun and very addicting...I spent a -lot- of ¥en playing this while I was in Japan, picked up some cheap singles at Radio Kaikan (Akihabara, Tokyo) before I came back heh. I really, really miss this game.
I picked up the Enterbrain guide that came out at the ending of July, the DVD was totally worth the deal by itself heh. It seems the boss has a weakness to a specific element, as I remember the team they chose to demonstrate with was very different from their normal one. Love the game, wish I was there for the update next month ;_;
I've beaten him on easy, working my way up to through normal now. I think he's weak to fire right? I remember assembling an all fire damage team and beating him pretty easily.
I want to play this...so bad...
Or at least collect some cards. ;~;

interesting concept: trading cards and video game hybrid. that can easily work. either the tablet scanner idea, or 3DS augmented reality cards.
