  • I think he wrote "Dis Poem" for people with conscious minds. 15 years ago when I first heard this it spark something in me. Now I see what it is. Nothing that conscious thinking black people will do or say will never be see or heard by the vast majority of people, especially caucasians (europeans).

  • @Jamrodleon I'm caucasian and I read what you said and disagree with it. Def Poetry is my favourite outlet for broadening my views of the conscious mind of men, no matter what race or age. Instead of saying what is bad about the world, start the change you wan to see. Share 'Dis Poem' with the masses, spread the consciousness of Mutabaruka with others. Be the chagne you want to see in the world. If you want the consciousness of african americans to be heard, make it happen instead of complaining

  • @Jamrodleon I know that in europe they might not understand, but Im American. Someones pain cannot be defined by race. Pain is pain motherfucker. Im white and can guarantee that my life has been worse than yours. Oppression and poverty recognize no race. BE EAZY.

  • RAS TAFARI LIVES!!!!! Give thanks.

  • Oh, no. This Catholic liar had turned up again singing more misguided songs. Mutabaruka (Allan Hope) your as fake as your conversion from Rasta thought to the Catholic religion... You contradict yourself many times over. Your songs are just filling your pockets with 'gold' from exploiting black brothers like you charge others with. Your history is also flawed Muta - go home to Jamaca, read all history, stop smoking drugs and telling lies in your songs. Yes this is really him folks! A hypocrit

  • @psyimology he who is without falt, cast the first stone

  • @0honey0U - I agree. The problem is with Muta, is he contradicts himself and yet tries to portray himself as some kind of enlightend soul, yet would cause division between people for his own selfish gain.

Quran: (those who make mischeif on the earth) "they are the loosers"

  • @psyimology Muta doesnt smoke dude, but this poem is obviously fucking up your brain, your brain, your brain, because this poem report facts...

  • Comment removed

  • @psyimology for your information muta does not smoke and he is not a hypocrit he makes a lot of sense.

  • I love dis poem. For me, there's stuttering in the audio, but it's awesome. Thank you for uploading it.

The first (and so far, my favorite) version I've ever heard of dis poem was on DJ Spooky's Creation Rebel:

"The Upsetters meet Mutabaruka - Creation Rebel (Trojan Records 40th Anniversary- Re-mixed, Re-Visioned, Re-Versioned) - Dis Poem Burns Babylon Version 2"

I love it. Check it out.

  • Great performance, nut even greater the poem!

  • I grew up in a historical place, Greensboro N.C. with the riots and Woolworth sit in. I am white and I'm happy for the changes I have seen in my 50 years but we have a long way to go. I love and respect dis poem and MutaBaruka is a great, wise man. Peace

  • I shouted this poem in my high school speech class in 1988. in Centerville, Ohio. I got a D on that poem, I got a bad reception on dis poem, I got a bad grade for dis poem, I was not understood for dis poem.. I am a white guy, shouting this poem in 1988 at an all white high school for dis poem, and dis poem will be remembered in my mind.

  • lmao love it

  • awesome!

  • "DIS" gentleman never wears shoes........

i wonder how they let him on the plane on the flight over

  • Which is what this poem is all about: A travel through time, stream-lining from a poem...

And Dis Poem is also about the poem that is time. The two are interweaved, intertwined, basically one....or almost one. Sort of like a woman and man when fucking...because yes, this is a mindfuck.

  • Dis poem is a mind fuck. He just goes in, and uses the poem itself to string together thoughts in listeners head until it's realize that the poem is hard to define, but definable as it is totally mental, totally engrossed, and like some sort of acid trip thought when you think heavily on one thing...such as time.

  • Mos Def and Muta = 2 of the Realest

  • dis poem shall speak of the wretched sea that washed ships to these shores of mothers cryin for their young swallowed up by the sea dis poem shall say nothin new dis poem shall speak of time time unlimited time undefined dis poem shall call names names like lumumba kenyatta nkrumah hannibal akenaton malcolm garvey haile selassie

  • Mutabaruka is a rwandan word from the verb "gutabaruka": to come back victorious from war" from the verb "gutabara": to save, to go to war . There is no stress actually between Muta and baruka it's pronounced like : Mutabaaruka, there are other many words from the verb like matabaro, Mutabazi (the saver) , Tabaro etc,...
