dude you are so cool and ur videos r phenominal.I com-fished outa gloucester little wile but will b coming back to fla.this summer my e-mail is michaelveil@yahoo.com
I fished for a lot of years, out of Jupiter Fl.We almost always jerked a bug while the planers fished. When a King got on a planer it would come to the top,U drop the bug line and haul in the fish.
We had elect. reels with a "coaster break" to haul in the jerk lines.Y'all ever use that method?
ok i aint even watched the video yet. just read the info and man you are preachin to the choir on that one!!! im a deckhand on a boat out of orange beach, al and the got the snapper season and limit so f-ed up its killin us. well at least it was but now the damn oil is killin us. they closed federal waters to fishing today. we cant catch legal snapper in 40ft of water!!! all we can do is troll and we wont be able to do that for too much longer :( sad day for me :(
They say the same thing about the red drum here yet they are only as thick as they were 15 years ago when there was no trip limit ! Where's the research being done ? Other than at the dock on the fish we catch ? The only research vessels i see, set a few hundred yards of net in the wrong locations, catch undersized fish with the wrong sized nets, then implement laws accordingly ! What the FU-- ?
Nice work, fishing videos make me hungry. Love to fish. Always here about fish population problems, dead zones, endangered...all kind of BS...every where we go - they catchin' fish...went to Florida, fish all over, sharks, too! Thanks
Thats amazing. Allen, do you know a website or video with a tutorial for trolling? I have no Idea and would like to start doing it to catch king mackerel or whatever there is in our sea. Great video by the way. Keep them coming.
@joyztik all you need is a few planers, some green and/or pink spoons, and a boat that'll do about 3 knots. rig up the planer, put a leader about 5 to 12 ft on it, and rig up the spoon on about 6" of wire and you'll be catchin king and spanish mackerel in no time
Our fishing has declined considerably from what it was in the 1960's but it's not the fisherman's fault. We still get good escapement up the rivers, meaning there are plenty of new fish being produced each year. Something is killing the fish before they can return, but not predators. Research suggests pollution is the cause. Our city has a special EPA exemption that allows toxic soapy water to escape after only primary treatment (settling) is done. This is documented in a paper I published.
You should see the stuff growing on the juvenile fish in the shallow water this is not good and we have seen huge algae blooms this year too.But the we the commercial fishermen are being shut down for made up reasons and they are not even talking about the real damage being to gulf of mexcio from all the polltion and You would not believe what is being put in the water that we see from the oil rigs where we fish what a joke
how many pounds were those snappers??

As a sport fisherman, I allways considered the CCA to be a good organization, however, I can see your frustration!! I'll stay tuned to learn more!!
