  • Can i just say, i have been out of the game now for a little over 15 years, and as it was so hard back then yo keep these kind of corals i could not supply enough via TMC so in the end it was not viable.

Well done for an outstanding display! And proveing it can be done.

  • what kind of lighting is david running these days?

  • @Teslasdik

For more detail of Davids tank please visit theaquariumsolution website, go to articles at the top of the page and then page 3 . There you should find a PDF review of David's set up which outlines all the kit on his tank including the bilux and matrix lighting from giesemann

    regards Tony

  • That is the most amazing Reef tank I have ever seen!!! I would pay money to see that Reef in person!! I tell you if I ever come into money I will build a beautiful reef like yours!! You are an amazing reefer!! Look forward to new video's!!

  • now that's one hell of a tank that looks like the discovery channel or national geographic beautifu tank fish and corals what size is the tank. and how long has it taken you to get it picture perfect like that.

  • @daca623

The whole system is around 16,000 liters.(4225 U.S gall).

  • @daca623 omg read! i seen the answer to that reading the video comment......

  • You have very BEAUTIFUL fish & coral but.......

Your tank is itself is wack especially with the metal strips on each corner. Try a cylinder tank next time comin from 300 gallon cylinder Game Over. :)

  • @Mikearam2

Metal strips? I cant see metal strips?

The aquarium is finished in high quality timber with a door that between rooms which is what you might be looking at.

  • @TonyatDD

Actually that isnt worded well, the aquarium and cabinet is made to a high standard, timber is rather generic. The aquarium frame and built in hood matches the cabinet, no steel in sight.

  • You are my inspiration. Do you take student?

  • one dislike, there's always on dick isnt there

  • that tank can house 2 goliath grouper

  • what if he got ich? hah

  • @iguana406

David runs 320watts of UV on his system and the ability to run ozone. Keeping water quailty extremely high and only introducing quaility livestock that has been correctly quarantined on import also plays a large part.

  • how many gallons do you think the tank is?

  • @jenny9dog The system holds around 3700 U.K gallons or 16,800 Liters.

  • @jenny9dog 4375 gallons

  • in the video david has a long brown wavy gorgion looking thing does anyone know what it is

  • @santr2

Its a Caribbean photosynthetic gorgonian. Possibly Plexaurella sp

  • Congratulation

  • I would change the bottom with live sand

  • @sailorbluepr

Live sand is pretty poor in my view and over rated. Any life within it has usually died after it arrives in the UK causing nutrient problems. Much better to use clean aragonite sand and allow the liverock to innoculate it with bacterias and micro fauna overtime.I suppose it could work well if used straight from a reef but what usually turns up is a damp bag of smelly sand full of dead bacteria and animals.Sand unlike live rock becomes anoxic very quickly in transport.

  • wow what an amazing tank

  • man you relly love david

old has aquarium 30 years old

  • can you put goldfish in there??

  • @hawkwind999

You could try, i dont think they would last that long in full strength sea water though lol

  • @hawkwind999

    no he cant

  • never mind on my last comment this is incredible very beautiful

  • never mind on my last comment this is incredible very beautiful

  • Where is nemo?

  • super schönes Aquarium Danke Herr David Saxby s das Sie uns über das Internet teilnehmen lassen an dieses schöne Aquarium.

  • This tank leaves me speechless, its beautiful.

  • excelent super schönes Aquarium.

  • excelente vídeo para quem ama as belezas naturais

  • than you for posting realy impresive

  • does anyone know what those yellow tangs are called with the white and black markings?

  • @1badla

The tangs are tri-colour tangs(Zebrasoma tricolor). Some consider them to be a variant of the yellow tang or scopas tang. They could ofcourse be a hybrid of both fish or a seperate species but i think school is still out on that.

  • @1badla yellow tang with white and black marking called zombie tang!!!! lol

  • That's impressive. I agree with adamjhulk. This is the best aquarium video on YouTube. It certainly demonstrates David's skill and knowledge. 3700 gallons! It looks as if it was plucked it out of a pristine part of the ocean. I could watch this for hours:-)

  • this is so amazing! best saltwater aquarium on youtube!!

  • @adamjhulk

Its even better then most public Salt water Tanks. Most of the public Aquaria i visited so far, have sinthetic corals, and rocks, with the fish, and some corals in separate tanks. Supposedly the so called Professionals should be able to do better than that, but to see pearls like saxby's reef, you need to resort to "amateur's". Same goes for "corporations" in the aquaria business..Sinthetic corals are the mark of a "professional"... Go Mr Saxby, you are the best=)

  • Only in my wildest dreams would i ever have something like this. Whenever I am stressed I like to watch this video. It has a soothing, calming effect that is very refreshing.

  • no different than my tank.. the nem will sting everything it can reach and the green star polyps will cover everything in sight.. lol jk.. ofcourse this is amazing. i didnt see one orchid dottyback though.. should have about 8 in there imo. did i say amazing. freaking amazing!

  • I would really like to know if some of the fish get to reproduce in the tank... anyone know??? Where the hybride tangs bought?

  • MorpheusDreamer- David has had many fish breed in his tank. If you watch carefully you will notice a small Bangai Cardinal by the red bubble tip nem. This is one of Davids babies.

David sources his fish from a few places within the U.K although some of his special fish were purchased from Holland.

  • Was there any success with Tangs or Anthias reproduction? Also, how long did he have the Copperband for?

  • Im pretty sure that knowone to date has had luck with tangs due to their spawning behaviour(pelagic), the same with Anthias.

David has observed breeding behaviour but never an actual spawning event of the Tangs and Anthias. With regards to the copperband. David finds that after sometime juvenile copperbands turn their attention from Aptasia pest anemone's to soft flesh LPS corals and clams. At this point David uses a mirror trap to entice and trap the fish. He then exchanges the fish TBC

  • at his local shop with another juvenile. The shop then recieves a robust well fed copperband and David gains another young fish to consume any pest amemone's in his tank.

  • Can you tell me more about that mirror trap??? I have one or two things that I would like to get out of the tank too...

  • Basically copperbands are quite territorial so fitting a mirror at one end of the trap at the opposite end to the door will entice the fish to enter the trap to display.

I use mirrorson the outside of the aquarium when introducing other tangs, this tends to keep them busy displaying to the mirror whilst the new additions settle.

  • Did you have to have your floor reinforced to take the 6 ton weight..??!!

  • Hiya

I have spoken to David and the floor is solid concrete and the weight is spread over a large footprint so within limits for the loadings of the floor.

  • Fantastic !!!!!!!!

  • SPEECHLESS........!this is exceptionally beautifull.

  • Truely beautiful ! I think I watched this with my mouth hanging open, breath taking.

  • wow, i'm in awe... i keep watching it over and over, it's so beautiful... and to think i can't even maintain a 5 gallon....

  • just amagen how much the fish alone would cost nothing else just the fish. 1 yellow tang is about $100 aus and he has heaps of them plus lots more fish

  • $100 wow!!!! in us we get them for like $20!!

  • your lucky, in the UK we pay £25 for small to around £45 for the Yellow Tangs. each of those Chromis would cost £20 -£25 each.

This guys got around £7,000 on fish/coral at least. But im informed that he owns a large chunk of D&D aquariums and hes a near £millionaire.

  • I have kept reefs all my life...but never have i wanted to be the fish...this tank would be my home..unreal work!!!

  • The Most amazing tank I have ever seen!!!! Has to be in top 5 of any tank on earth!!!!!

  • now that is what I am talking about...

  • rabbit, hamster, dog and cat!

    Gotta love the tags.

    Amazing tank BTW

  • what is the song please ?

  • Loving the small fish but glad to see ol' Moby is still there. :)

  • this is incredible!! and so huge!

I assume this was a custom built tank.. not bought from a shop?

    its amazing!

  • omg.....

  • Do they not look happy and healthy to you?

I'm sure that, from looking at the reef tank itself David Saxby probably knows how to take care of his fish.

He also might feed his fish on more frequent intervals throughout the day.

Stunning tank! I wish I had the capabilities to own such a spectacle!!

    Well done!

  • no, I'm replying to the guy who said "my tangs are skinny". David's fish are amazing and in perfect health. Sorry about the mix up!

  • Wow, most impressive. I hope he's got, at minimum, a Bubble King Deluxe 500 on that. ;o) The 650 would be better, of course.

  • trust me his skimmer would lay dumps all over the 650, his featured in PFK this month, check it out i was gob smacked.

  • David uses three skimmers on the tank.

The last time a visited he had a Deltec TS 1064, Deltec AP1006, and a new specially built Deltec prototype skimmer.

  • His fishes are definately well fed dude

  • I read somewhere that this tank has 1.5 tonnes of live rock, he must have an equally impressive bank balance lol

  • i wonder how much food he dumps in every day. also, where all his current comes from

  • Truly magnificent!!!

  • i do wish some one would film his filter room too than just his tank

  • Hats off to Mr. Saxby. That's the finest saltwater tank I've seen. Does anyone know of a better reef tank than this?

  • amazing !!!

    What is the song ?

  • Without sounding rude, or a know it all, I feel that since the strip down it has lost alot of 'structure'. It seems now to all be a bit 'messy' with coral positioning, like the giant gorgonia that seems to dominate too much. Indeed I am aware that it takes time for things to grow out, so I will watch with great interest any updates on what is a truly magnificent system.

  • Another thing i like abt this tank is that the yellow tangs are fat... My tangs are skinny... And lovely tri-colour tangs david has there...

  • bingopine for help with the skimmer please visit the D-D website shown at the top right of the video.

You will find a helpfil FAQ section and direct email support links there so we can give you the best possible customer support that we cant give you here.

  • OK... thanks found my solution there... If ever again i need to buy another equipment deltec would definitely be my first choice.

  • Are all the equipments deltec??? And is he still using more than 1 chiller??

  • The equipment used is either Deletc or D-D. David uses 2 large Eco-coolers and a large D-D chiller to keep the system cool.

  • Oh... cool... I just bought a deltec MCE-300 skimmer and is working great... Deltec rocks... However i have a question still, I switched my air tap from 2 o'clock to nearly 3 o'clock and it makes a pssh noise... The skimmate looks wet, shouldn't it be dry?

  • Im speechless, thats love in the tank right there!

  • Wow. I think I've found the cure for hypertension. Amazing. I've never seen fish look so happy before. You could literally tell by looking in their eyes, and by the way they swim.

  • Extremely inspiring tank! Amazing! I can only dream to have a tank like that. My tank is much smaller 75gl but you should check it out! "ryans reef video"

  • how do u pick up a coral that falls or a fish that dies... like it would die in there anyway haha

  • how much money do you think he has in this.i'll guess 1 million

  • does anybody know what those blue with red tail damsels are.. well I think they are damsels. I thought they were blue devils but their tails are really red!. beautiful fish.

  • Did he make his tank smaller? Why did he strip it down? It is and was beautiful either way. Whay is the name of the coral at 1:30 that looks like cat tails?

  • The 'cat tail' coral is a Photosynthetic Caribbean Gorgonian.

David decided he wanted to focus on LPS and SPS corals and change his aquascape hence the tank was stripped down.

The tank is the same tank, nothing has changed there.

  • or how he cleans it? that would be intresting

  • this guy has the best tank ever. I wonder how he do his water change?

  • Very easily

David has 3 x 1000 lt vats on the system and he shuts off a valve to isolate them and empties the water out then cleans them out. He then fills them with RO water and adds the H2Ocean Pro Plus salt over a period of about 2 days. He then brings them back onto the system slowly so that there is no sudden changes to the tank.

  • @stuartbertram

wasnt there a video of David's sump somewhere? i could be thinking of a different tank, but i cant find it now?

also, is there a 2010 video?

  • @james1307oak

    Hi

The 2009 is the latest video at the moment. I cant recall a video of the sump system but if you look through the articles section of theaquariumsolution website there is a very in depth review of Davids sump system. It will boggle your mind as its a complex and huge system.
