I like where intel has gone with the EPIC architecture moreover it has given way to fully support Microsoft where it needs to be in terms of firmware to loaders such as UEFI 1.1 and 2.0. While it still has CISC basis, it does indeed use parallel execution, EPIC or itanium as definitely a good thing, I think i mentioned it in the vid though?
Okay Im 20 mins in, I understand what your saying about the multi threading and the UltraSpark CPU's. Do you know if the connection of multi threading will be made even a little better with Snow?
the os is only part of the equation, to get parallel processing as in the fastest execution needs a multi-threaded application as well. OSX and windows can multi-thread today, the argument is though how well and in parallel/concurrently. The new intels have two threads but lower the cycles, not as powerful as the SPARCs. So in Snow leopard, i do believe multiprocessing will improve, but that is only part of the equation.
software must be enough intelligent to recycle itself and DO MORE with less. efficency, . software needs to be in the way moder engines are. they give more and more miles per galon and more torque and speed with even smaler engines. Technology is supoused to be in evolution not the opposite. i mean with that, i type the same letter in office 97 as 2007. why more and more power to basically do the same in terms of work. instead it should just get more job done. not the same task with more.
wow, Long video but amazingly I understood most of it. I agree. Programers and engineers rely too much on hardware rather than developing better and more efficient software. It amazes me that back in 1980's computers had virtually no ram, no harddrive, and no processor power, yet programmers were able to develope applications that worked great back then but we have trouble getting to run right on 1,000 times more and better hardware today. Yet, both do the same thing.
Amazing video mate and I am so looking forward to more videos of this nature allowing us the honor in getting to know you a bit better. You are certainly an inspiration to me and I would guess so many others.
The best and most informative vid I have seen. Having worked om main frames many years ago and used C you are so spot on with what you say. Thanks for taking the time to do what you do on here.
Qn. Does that mean the Core-Duos and Nehalem since they are x86 and CISC based? Does that mean OSX are not used to their full potential in the apps written since the chips are not efficient??
I may have misinterpreted your video so correct me. Other than that I liked this video. Very Educational.
I hope you will do some vids on Graphics / Programming such as OOP and OpenGL to dispel myths and such.
NO ONE and I mean NO ONE speaks like you do. This is why I speak very highly of you and would defend you in a heartbeat. All the other so called authorities in Mac v PC, do not talk technical like you do. This video made very much sense, as a matter of fact I felt like I was a tech conference. Awesome job Bit! There are not enough stars to properly rate this video.... 100/100
I've always thought this should be more about software now that Apple's gone to intel as far as mac vs pc. But would you say that your argument also applies to time when apple used Power PC? I was not clear on that.
I agree. But the PS3 game developers are not only taking the easier road to making games but they are also still learning the full potential of the cell processor. I blame Sony for not putting in more research and study into their hardware. By doing this they can distribute better Developement Kits to developers. By doing so, they can open the door wider for developers to develope better games.
Couldn't agree more. Sony made one of the bigest mistakes not creating a good development kit for their platform. As for AMD and VIA they might have a chance to brake Intel's position but only in a long run(a very long) if the software would stop getting fat.
to the user flintalt2, yes i have noticed the high quality is doing that, it may have to do that this is a very large video and youtube may have not finished processing it. I have just noticed the high quality link only very recently in the last 10 minutes.
Hardware has made leaps and bounds in advancements, and software developers get spoiled and lazy. What only took 64K of hardware memory to do in the 80's takes 1 to 100 megabytes to do today. Back then, programmers had to use their brains to squeeze in as much as they could into what limited resources they had. Now, programmers just take advantage of the limitless resources hardware offers and just get really sloppy. That's what happens when smart people get rich and are not hungry anymore.
You are absolutely right. Vista is an operating sytem and as an operating system, it should be designed to take up the least amount of system resources so that it is left over for applications and other programs that will run on the OS. I think in that aspect, OSx is much better because it requires less system resources to run leaving more for applications. That be said, thats why you still see Apple making computers with only 1gig of ram. But they charge you more money than PCs.
Thanks.

The problem is that coders are lazy people.
You see that also on the ps3.
Nobody wanna code for the cell processor.
So many games especially EA games having lags on high resolution.
(new Need for Speed game for example)
The problem is the x86 CPU architecture.
So many computers have x86 CPUs for the desktop(end-user).
Only Apple had used IBM processors.
AMD and VIA have no real chance to create a better processor than Intel, because Intel has a lot of developmental edge.
Colamix666 3 years ago
well said, i hope the new AMD plant in Dubai dedicated for R&D help them.
