  • Got this knife. Unimpressed with tini finish but like blade overall. I hated the kydex sheath so I ordered optional leather from SoG. The leather was $35 and sog included a bumpersticker and free tool logic slim card tool with the shipment. Good job Sog. You've renewed my faith in knife makers. And now I'm gettin an Agency. No TiNi on that one

  • are you sure that the reason that your old stacked leather handled knife swelled up with water is because it is before they started to epoxy the handles? they are impervious to water now :P

this is a sweet one but i just ordered the SOG super bowie, its one bad mofo!

    sweet review!

  • This is one of my all time favorite knifes. Have had it for a while now and just love to break it out every now and then and admire it! Great review Nutn... thank you!

  • What a beautiful knife! Aus8 keeps the price down and in my experience is a good blade material; not great but good. A super hard steel in a knife thsis size could make it too brittle, espexially with that fine tip.

  • I'm definitely thinking about picking one of these up over the holiday season if I can find it for the right price. I'm loving the coating.

  • oh my god that's a beathifull knife....

  • aus8 is soft, dulls quickly and is simply an inferior, cheap steel, now alas mostly used for cheaper production knives. It is a very small extra to make them from better steels, such as ats-34, s30v, 154cm, 154cpm or 420HC even. There is no excuse for a nice blade pattern to fall short of the mark, steel wise. Imagine what a good steel on a sog bowie could do, and oh, make it thinner as well, 3/16 is far preferable.

  • Comment removed

  • study and observe better knives, plz

  • aus8...... brrrrrr..... get one in ats34 or 154cm..... much better.

  • @BigRooster747 Whats wrong with AUS 8? Its a perfectly capable steel, as long as its refined properly

  • this is coming with me to Afghanistan

  • @choopdewoot Great knife, but there are much better. In Afghanistan, when your life could depend on your knife, you want the best knife possible. I got the Ek Commando (what the Marine Raiders used), and I highly recommend the OKC3S (the Marine-issue bayonet), if you aren't issued one.

  • Is it possible to wear the sheath scout style (horizontal)?

  • I love it when SOG makes a wicked blade !

  • LOL@ROSIE

  • nice blade

  • do you prefer the sog tech bowie or the ka-bar for a survival knife

  • tech bowie is too shiny needs to be black oxide or somethin rougher for actuall use

  • i have a question about mine and i wanted to see if you knew i was lucky enough to get this knife given to me by my dad. but it was given to my dad by his friend so im nit sure where it came from and i noticed where its stamped sog on the blade under it, it does not say tech bowie so is it a different knife?

  • just subscribed. your videos are so informative, i just had to.

  • how come on the website it says 207$ when it is really like 140$?

  • Hey man is this the version you will get if you buy the original, non blacked out version of this knife. The pictures i've seen of this knife don't do justice like this video. Or is this a specialty knife? Thanks man n keep up the good work for us!

  • They say that the vietnam version has an epoxy coating on the leather handle. Does epoxy make leather waterproof?

  • Good thing about your channel nutn, I can watch your old vid's when I find the time. Man that is a beautiful blade.

  • Did SOG once meant special operations group or has it always been studies and observations group?

  • @looney116 Studies and Observations Group was a cover. It is Special Operations Group, apart of the CIA.

  • @looney116 the other comment was from a kid off of COD yes it has ment studies and observations group, the other commenter only got that from playing black ops

  • Did SOG once meant special operations group or has it always been studies and observations group?

  • Looks like a seal pup. Only minor differences and a better sheath.

  • Great video, Nutnfancy. I like how you told the story and history. Thanks for a great ten minutes

  • Great knife. Only problem is that it's too shiny.

  • Nice blade and ''nice'' price =0

  • Dude, lovin' the gear reviews. Keep up the great work.

  • I have 2 questions.

    1. Does the Knife click and hold into the kydex sheath like the Ka-bar does with it's kydex sheath?

    2. What kind of string comes w/ the sheath? how long is the string? where could I get more?

    Thank you!

  • WOW

  • Is the ODA from Cold steel a good substitute for this piece?

  • People still use leather sheaths nutnfancy...

  • Beautiful knife. Thanks for this Nutn!

  • CISO - Counterinsurgency Support Office.

They provided special logistics and equipment to SOG and other special forces during Vietnam.

I just read a book on it :D

  • its pronounced nom

  • holyshitshinyknifeissoshiny

  • I do like the blade design But like you I would prefer a longer handle to fit my HUGE hands.

  • Such a Beatyful Knife!

  • I know what I'm getting

  • sorry man a stupid friend of mine wrote that comment...

actually i really like that knife!

  • LOL Funny Rosie JOKE!

  • lame

  • @royalalexman you have no taste in knives then...

  • I'm not trying to troll or anything but I always thought S.O.G stood for Special Operations Group, I'm not saying I'm correct I just always thought thats what SOG stood for.

  • @BasterdAirsoft they figured studies and observation group sounded better just for the public but really it was special ops group.

  • @buttermywaffles Winning of hearts and minds....

  • i think it's pronounced nom , idk foril though

  • 3:25 for knife.

  • beautiful knife

  • hey u said that stacked rubber would swell up what was the handle during the war because i no some sog missions delt with water so how did that work?

  • Can you tell me more about those books and what they are called? I'm simply in love with everything SOG, and most of all, their knives. I'm buying one of these soon.

  • where do you get this knifes??

  • @HorianXxX Go to sogknives . com

  • Ok, heres my question, in your opinion, who makes knives better, SOG, or Cold Steel?

  • The Rosie O'Donnell comment makes this your best video. ^^ Nice knife too, I love that TiAlN coating on the blade.

  • can you cut through logs with this like the ka-bar bowie knife?

  • ha...rosie o'donnell is fat.

  • Free inexhaustible energy is real! But Elite controllers don't want ppl to be free from the costs of energy,Find a motor that needs no fuel or input at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Start the energy revolution!

  • Does the TiAIN coating mitigate the need for wd-40?

  • That coating is in fact badass. I have a mill cutter or ten that are coated with the TiAlN, as well as a similar cobalt coating - they usually wind up kind of gray-purple. The black means it's pretty darn thick. I'd be surprised if you could scratch it with anything short of SiC grit. *Drools* sexy knife.

  • That thing is like pure O-material. Absolutely gorgeous. I love those SOG's.

  • Have also added this one to my collection, awesome blade Nutn.

Love your work keep it up

  • I have purchased this knife; although a beautiful knife no doubt, but I think I made a mistake; too big for my wilderness use purposes. I just want to baton through some wood to make fire, maybe shelter building, food prep (fish, etc.). This Sog Tech bowie is significantly heavier than my Fallkniven F1. Also, because sog tech bowie is AUS8 steel, the stainless steel is not as easy to sharpen out in the wilderness compared with the f1's VG-10. But the AUS-8 steel is not as proned to chipping.

  • can anyone tell me an internet store that sells good quality knives swords and other weaponry that can if needed be used in self defense without breaking or bending easily

  • @brandondoantomlinson

    trueswords DOT com

just use a . instead of dot and they have very good stuff

  • i went to scheels today and i found this kabar knife plain edge no knotchs wat so ever and it was 150 bucks no other acceserys either just the knife and handle and i said hell no

  • wow nice knife! Is it any good for battoning wood?

  • call of duty black ops the video game story line is revolved around the SOG black ops operations.

  • After all that talking, you didn't mention if it keeps it's sharpness. What is the price?

  • Rosy Odonell after a donut fest !!!!!lol brilliant

  • the rosie comment... yes i love it

  • this knife is amazing

  • Note the the prototype flat top rail on his car-15

P.S. I love the tiger stripe

  • is that sog knive made in america or is it a china crap becasue i but the jungle primitive and that crap was made in china

  • @ST4leave Taiwan. Better quality than that of mainland China.

  • sorrry were can i buy a bettr handle for bk 9 micarta handles

  • were can i buy a bettr micarta handle for bk 9

  • @sthswnsn , No rpoblem , it can happen , I'll live :)

  • @sthswnsn , No problem , it can happen :) I'll live :)

  • hey nutnfancy, 2 questions 1. The belt loop system on this sheath , does that come on the seal pup elite's kydex sheath? 2. wats the difference between this and the seal pup besides the lenght on the knife? thanks

  • Oh my god, im in love with that knife :|

  • Hello

    how much kost this knive

    with greetings peter

  • @replacher he said around $1000 at the beginning of the video

  • @replacher

In Europe it costs around 150 euros, i guess you can find cheaper in the US

  • nut fancy im looking for a knife that would do good in alaska im lookin for one under 65 and thats durable and that has a a durable sheath wat do u think?

  • That Dude is SF. I have one of the original 1500 CISO presentation knives that was given to me when I was five years old by my Special Forces father who ordered the knives from Okinawa while assigned to the 5th SFG in Na Trang. My knife has my name engraved with the SF Crest and 5th group seal. I'll post a video later for you. Contacted SOG HQ here in Wa state and they were not interested in seeing it for some strange reason. Most hardcore SF carried Gerber Mk 1, Bowies were gifts.

  • Actually the more I look at the Dude you showed, he looks like a CIA cat. I have my real SOG knife video up now, take a look.

  • The SOG Knife Company site now has the history of the knife. The original Bowie that I have is what the company was founded from. Unfortunately the Bowie they made shows "VIETNAM" on top of the "5th Special Forces Group" and leaves off (Abn). That's how you tell an original from the commemorative edition. Go to the SOG Knives site and then /documents/SOG-FightingKnives.pdf. Again, that is not this knife of which 1700 were made for the 5th Special Forces Mess Association.

  • thats a nice blade. how much was this sog

  • i am having some trouble deciding between the becker combat bowie or the SOG fixation bowie- i am gonna use the knife for recreational shelter building and firewood gathering so it will need to be able to chop really well and not break if you have any other suggestions that would work good for me please tell me that also thanks i love ur videos

  • Watched your videos and then bought the Tech Bowie today, for $114. So far I'm very happy with it. I really like the look and feel of the knife. This sheath can be configured for left handed people like me. It was a selling point for me since other SOG knives come with nylon or leather sheaths. This video is dead on accurate. Thanks Nutnfancy. time to go cut something...

  • so is this a knife you would use or is this a collector. can it hold up

  • CoD4 FTW

  • just show the damn knife!...

  • @nutnfancy, i'm looking at a sheath knife for backpacking, and am stuck between the Tech Bowie and the SealPup. do you prefer either for hard work such as splitting wood, cutting wood, and other miscellaneous uses?

  • sick blade finish! =)

  • interesting book about vietnam , shame you came second

  • @kingfisher44 I noticed you failed to mention where you were from so nobody could rag on you about you countries' losses, because no matter who you are your country has beaten to it's knees at some point or other>

  • Hello, i'm having a hard time deciding between a tech bowie and the seal pup elite. I like both of these knives, so could u help me out?

  • @frozenboiboi , I second that , I have the exact same problem . Nutnfancy if You could help us out I would be very thankful :)

  • @Thillin Hi Thillin..see above. -- Veri

  • @frozenboiboi Ok, I asked Nutn and here's what he said: "Seal Pup Elite..its lighter, great LBE knife, more affordable. Tech Bowie is more collectible." Hope that helps. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • @frozenboiboi either way i believe u r going 2 be getting a great knife that you will love.

  • @frozenboiboi

i got a seal pup elite and 100% love it!!! i love it because it is soo light! but i got mine without serations which i regret. if you get a seal pup elite i would get serations because the blade isnt as big and doesnt give as much torque but you cant go wrong with either of these knives

  • @lilz20 Yup! I got myself a seal pup elite. That's because i've seen quite a few issues on SOG bowie's nut coming loose at the tang.

  • @frozenboiboi What did you wind up getting? I'm also torn.

  • @dandotreillydot42058 I got a seal pup elite. But now i'm torn between bowie 2.0 and tech bowie LOL

  • frrozenboiboi If you are going to use the knife you should get the tech bowie. I have experienced problems with leather getting wet.

  • @dandotreillydot42058 the handle, or the sheath? or both?

  • @frozenboiboi both.. the leather is cool though. but if you get it wet it is a pain.

  • @dandotreillydot42058 guess i'll be getting the tech bowie since my knives will be exposed to water

  • @frozenboiboi will leather handles be fine after they are dried? or will they be damaged

  • @frozenboiboi they become hard and difficult to work with it may warp or somethin like that

  • Beautiful finish! What is that? Gun metal finish or something?

  • @snr4SIG TY LOL I've been waiting two months for a reply.

  • I would bring sword into war :D

  • I just noticed.... my tech bowie has a different stamp on it....

  • Where did you have the upper clip on your tech bowie sharpened at? can any knife shop do it? thanks brother

  • It seems that you can pull the knife out of the sheath easily while mine is really stiff. I like the easy removal.

  • you can loosen it up by bending the kydex out a little

  • Woah an absolutely awesome and super interesting video, once again. Gj man, keep it up!

  • SOG or Fairbairn-Sykes?

  • How would the SOG Tech Bowie fare as a mid-grade woodsplitter when compared to, say, the KABAR Marine Combat knife?

  • i have one of these, i used it alot in the jungles of costa rica and submerged it in mud, fresh and salt water several times....absolutely no problems with it, great bit of kit.

  • i still say that it is lieght enough with enough capability to be a great blade for soldiers. but i guess i differ from nutn on that. o well

  • Hey...I love doughnuts....LOL

  • Lol nutnfancy, you are easily comparable to "cutlerylover" in terms of reviews :)

  • considering buying one but i have a question.

    Is it molle vest compatible?

Can you break glass with the palmle(SP*) like other knives?

  • The leather washers "swelled up like Rosie O'Donnell after a doughnut fest on a Saturday night." LOL! I'm buying the Trident 2.0 soon. Why did SOG have to go from Seki to Taiwan though? That's not too good for business. I haven't purchased a SOG since they made that switch; however, if they still have Nutnfancy's approval, I'll give it a shot. That Trident 2.0 is beautiful though, just gotta have it.

  • the pommel is flat and not pointed making it a great hammer but idk about breaking glass i assume it will it is hardened steel

  • sog makes a great knife, i just picked a gerber lmf 2. coming in the mail any day.

  • LOL! Doughnut Fest!

    Great Job mate Great Knife.

  • Ive started a paper route to pick up xtra $ with my girl and I use a couple gerber 440c steal knives to cut the straps on the paper bundles and at the end of every morning it looks like i've been whacking my knife against the sharp edge of a metal filing cabinet and I need to sharpen it-the result is I'm losing steal-I used to like S&W knives but now i'm totally disalusioned with440C,if aus8 is like that...is there a better steal that wont have that problem?

  • "it looks like i've been whacking my knife against the sharp edge of a metal filing cabinet."

What do you mean? Is the blade dull or is it chipping? I can't imagine it's chipping via cutting plastic bands. Your higher carbon steals like d2 and s30v will hold their edges longer. i don't know about 440c(I've seen it referred to as AUS-10) but aus8 is a softer steal than both d2 and s30v. If you're really worried about the knife dulling you can look for something in s90v

  • Yeah, my 440c gets notches in it,maybe i've put too much of an edge on it.I'm gonna check out D2,I've heard 1095 is good as well, whats a good blade in s30v and/ors90v?is that the supposedly best "all around steal"cuz I'm getting disillusioned with stainless, Im gonna check out some high carbon. Is 420HC anything decent?

  • 1095 is also a high carbon steel. that makes it, like d2, strong but brittle. i think that s30v is a good middle ground steel. the spyderco native in s30v is on my purchase list. give it a look.

  • I saw a kabar d2 destruction test on youtube and that knife held up to more pounding than I could imagine a knife in even heavy use-i always hear d2 is brittle but from what i saw i'd have to ask compared to what-then again i hear its all about the heat treatment, so maybe some d2 is better than others-i'll check out that s30v though, thanks

  • Try the Vulcan or one like it with VG-10 Very tough Steel.

  • Just got the knife last night, it is beautiful! I took a couple of pictures and the shine from the blade messed one up. I wouldn't worry about being in the back woods without the glint factor because you get it in black.

  • great vid you should zoom out a bit to get a better shot

  • I saw one of these knives on clearance at Bass Pro Shop a few months ago. $50.00 woulod of been a steal if I had $50.00, so I just stared and slobbered

  • AUS8 has .75 carbon, 14 chromium, .49 nitrogen, .5 magnese, .10 molybednum, .49 nickel, .04 phosphorus 1 silicon .03 sulph and .2 vanadium. 440C has 1.0 carbon 17 chromium 1 magnese .75 molybednum .04 phosphorus 1 silicon .03 sulphate and no vanadium. according to Benchmades chart anyways.

  • Hey I googled the name of this knife, and I saw so many people stealing your review, I found like 7 different websites under 5 minutes with exact same review as this.

  • i dont know if he covered it but could anyone tell me if that black finish get all messed up after battoning

  • yes, that black finish will wear off over time. I dont think this knife comes with a satin finish. I would not go the way of black coatings. Would'nt it suck to be stuck in the back country with out a signal mirror and a black coated knife, lol.

  • Awesome dude.

  • 1000 realy thats crasy

  • history = value

superman #1 cost pennies when it came out. Now its millions

  • Love SOG knives. Bought a seal pup a while back, hoping to grab one of these once schools over and making some cash :P

  • its a beauty

  • Darn it, I looked at the SOG Bowie but went with the SOG Pup...I love my SOG Pup for my MTB rides but now you got me wanting the SOG Bowie. Looks like a work of art. Could you do a video on how to sharpen the SOG.....

  • muy interesante. esto es lo que deben de ser los videos de youtube. FANTASTIC VIDEO. CONGRATS, NUTNFANCY. HOLA DESDE ESPAÑA.

  • haha donut fest!

  • I got my sog tech bowie for somewhere between 100 and 200 i cant remember

  • Sweet Jesus, this blade is beautiful.

Possibly the best looking knife I have ever seen.

  • at the beginning of the video at 0:01 - 0:25 look at the left side of the book page. its right next to the butt of the guys gun. u will see a face. almost like a ghosts face or something. u gotta really look though. but its there.

  • i think i see it!

  • I dont see it! Where exactly is it?

  • I just hate that they cut there logo into EVERYTHING...

  • Comment removed

  • I bought mine today and i love it! Thanks to you nutn

  • Comment removed

  • that upper clip, similar to the one the Ka-Bar, is (or was) used for opening C-Ration cans during the war...

  • TiAIN

  • i have that book

  • The whole leather washer issue may have been improved upon -- now the impregnate the washers with epoxy.

Would be interesting to compare an epoxied washer with a old style washer. It may stay slim while poor Rosie puffed up.

  • Man ive been looking for a knife that i can trust my life too. i found this online and wanted to find a review and i knew you would have a review on it. Thanks man, your vids are great!

  • You would be better of with a knife with a good steel then, AUS 8 is not that great of a steel, its like 440B, better off getting a RAT or a Becker or something, if you really wana trust your life to it, at least get a good steel.

  • I keep hearing aus-8 is no better than 440. This is really depressing. I hate 440. Does anyone have a reference to this?

  • 440 what? 440A, B or C, because 440C is a pretty solid stainless steel.

Aus 8 is basically 440B. AUS 10 is like 440C, you have to understand there is a vast difference between 440A and 440C, VAST.

Check my steel comparison vid for info on 440C.

  • thanks bro
