in my opinion the US military doctrine should change so that instead of occupying countries like Iraq and Afghanistan for prolonged periods of time, we should try to continuously be on the offensive. We have proven that short shock attacks are very successful in 2003 and 2001 but the occupations that come afterwards and the nation building are a huge waste of money. we should try to accomplish more objectives preemptively and then leave causing a ripple effect (hopefully) in our favor

@flavius717 We can't go in, knock out government, and just leave. The invasions in 2001 and 2003 were very successful because we were attacking a conventional enemy.

Once we defeated them, we couldn't just leave so another possibly more dangerous government comes into power. Imagine what would've happened if we leave after we destroyed Saddam's regime --- the country would've slipped into poverty like Somalia or the Feyadeen would've simply taken the country back.
